Our first visit and a fantastic experience with wonderful service, efficient and very friendly. Fantastic food, prepared to a high standard. A specialist in Wagyu beef, we couldnt resist the Wagyu Roll, we also tried the Avocado Maki, Dragon Roll, Scottish Salmon Sashimi, Grilled Aubergine and some gyoza. This was our test run and will certainly be back, highly recommended. For me the Sashimi was incredible, buttery melt in your mouth goodness. Really stand out service though, didnt catch a name, but a super friendly American chap. Thanks for a great evening.

Google
Still the best Japanese restaurant in Edinburgh IMO. Premium quality of sashimi and wagyu. During our last visit, there was the “Best Sashimi Platter” (if I remember the name correctly) with 3 pieces of oysters plus 9 or 10 different types sashimi, on the special menu - definitely go for this whenever available. And don’t miss the eel rice as well.

Came here for my birthday dinner and the staff graciously helped me celebrate with a complimentary mochi and candle (even though we didn’t tell them about the occasion!) -such a nice gesture ❤️ This was my third time here, and the salmon was -as always- really fresh, succulent and fatty. We also tried the crab nigiri for the first time, and despite me being fairly ambivalent towards crab, I loved it; the crab meat has an almost melt-in-your-mouth texture to it.

Beautifully decorated restaurant. Interior worthy of a big metropolitan city. Likely the best Japanese in Edinburgh with a greater variety of Japanese offerings on the menu compared to other places. Fresh ingredients. Lunch bentos are generous and well balanced. Was very let down by the service unfortunately. Fish slightly subpar.

Amazing wee gem of a japanese dining establishment. Our main server, Sara, ran through some of the popular recommendations for us, and they did not disappoint! My partner and I finally managed to get our hands on some bluefin tuna and wagyu, which we haven’t had since our trip to Japan the year before. Our meal was full of nostalgia, and was one of the most authentic and memorable dining experiences we have had. Thank you to everyone who made our time there so genuine and welcoming :)

I had an amazing experience. The Wagyu Donburi was simply superb—perfectly cooked, rich, and packed with flavor. The scallop sushi was fresh and delicate, while the fatty tuna temaki was melt-in-your-mouth good. Service was attentive and friendly, making the meal even more enjoyable. Overall, a top-notch Japanese dining experience that I’d happily recommend and return to.

The two pictures posted are from items I didnt order. I ordered 3x items and when it arrived my tempura and miso were missing. Funny enough I made the order bc of these 2. Deliveroo issued an immediate partial refund. But in my view, my whole dinner was ruined, and I wasted my time and money and ended up with food I didnt even want to eat. These guys didnt bother getting in touch, nada. There is something really wrong with a business that 1, makes such a blatant mistake, and 2, thinks its acceptable to have no care whatsoever for their costumers. I dont care this was an app order, this is NOT how you do business. I should also add that, the one item I ordered was sub-par in quality and arrived cold and that all portions were overpriced compared to their size. This was either my worst or second worst take-away experience of all time. I would never bring business to these people again (Yamato, Nishiki, etc) Stay away.

Yelp
This place was delicious! Stumbled upon it during our one day in Edinburgh. Staff was very welcoming, even tho it was approaching closing. YUMMY!

Yelp
I downloaded Yelp for the sole purpose of leaving a good review of this place. The atmosphere was cool and calm. the service are spectacular, all of the staff were so friendly. AND THE SUSHI IS UNMATCHED. I cannot stress enough how much joy the food gave me. The salmon panko maki will live in my dreams. I can't recommend this place enough!!!

Yelp
On a Saturday evening we had been to many restaurants only to be turned away as they were fully booked and we had no reservation. Yamato were nice and managed to accommodate us for an hour, between 7:30pm to 8:30pm for when they needed the table back, so I was really grateful (particularly since we had been walking around foolishly reservation-less on a Saturday night, starving trying to find a place to eat!) Yamato is one of the higher end, posh Japanese restaurants where everything is meticulously prepared to Instagram worthy perfection. Great presentation and taste, but as each portion is small and prices are high, expect a high food bill if not double the amount of a casual restaurant. But for fine Japanese dining, I used to live in Japan and I can say that the food here was very authentic. It also made me happy to see a few dishes I thought I'd only see in Japan, such as Chawanmushi, Chilled Tofu, Miso Aubergine, Unagi don etc. so it was quite nostalgic! The service was excellent and efficient, staff were polite despite it being busy. The atmosphere was more quiet in line with the fine dining experience, and there is Japanese style seating available as well as regular table seats. I would recommend a reservation, as I think we were just very lucky to be accommodated particularly around 6-8pm. Overall, expensive but authentic Japanese fine dining in the heart of Edinburgh.

Yelp
We went on the opening evening, and there were a few hiccups with service, but the staff were great and the food was amazing. I think I have found my new favourite sushi bar in Edinburgh!

Yelp
Amazing sushi! They have very tasty rolls with beef. We also had fantastic classic salmon rolls and gyoza.

Yelp
We went here for dinner 2 nights ago and are already going back! My family and I had been loyal visitors to Suishya which has now closed down and also had been to Kanpai a few times - which is owned by the same people. The service was excellent and the decor was great too! The food was fantastic - I had the soba noodles, miso soup and the Wakame salad. I shared with the other members of my party the agadashi tofu and the miso aubergine. The other members of my party got the salmon panko roll which is a favourite of theirs from kanpai and some assorted nigiri. I highly recommend you visit!

Yelp
Terrible service. The restaurant may be new but there is no excuse for never receiving your food after alerting four staff members over a 30 minute period. The staff did not apologize nor did they do anything to fix the situation. I had to go to the counter just to request the bill as they never returned to our table.
