Beautifully decorated restaurant. Interior worthy of a big metropolitan city. Likely the best Japanese in Edinburgh with a greater variety of Japanese offerings on the menu compared to other places. Fresh ingredients. Lunch bentos are generous and well balanced. Was very let down by the service unfortunately. Fish slightly subpar.

One of the best sushi restaurants in Edinburgh, high quality food and great service. I love how the sushi is always fresh and you can really taste the true flavour of the seafood. The sweet and tender miso marinated black cod is really out of this world. The crispy Brussels sprouts is tangy and the crunchy pine nuts complement the overall dish. Tempura is fried to perfection with light crispy coating. The staffs are very welcoming and friendly. They recommended most of the dish and everything was amazing. Will be back for sure!

Amazing wee gem of a japanese dining establishment. Our main server, Sara, ran through some of the popular recommendations for us, and they did not disappoint! My partner and I finally managed to get our hands on some bluefin tuna and wagyu, which we haven’t had since our trip to Japan the year before. Our meal was full of nostalgia, and was one of the most authentic and memorable dining experiences we have had. Thank you to everyone who made our time there so genuine and welcoming :)

Been here quite a few times and it has never been a disappointment- always super fresh sashimi and sushi with no fishy taste! As good as the ones I can get back in Asia! They did one of our orders wrong but were quick to fix the problem and gave us the wrong order free of charge! We were here for a birthday celebration and they also gave us a little complimentary dessert:)

Great sushi, super fresh and great quality! Fairly priced too. The staff were super friendly - shout out to lovely Evan who looked after us and made the night special for my birthday! Would highly recommend.

Yamato had great service, very welcoming and accommodating staff. The food was great quality, fresh and flavourful, for such a great price, (and we ordered a lot). The presentation was great, both the food and the restaurant (the music is a very nice calming and welcoming touch too), would highly recommend and will be dining again!

The sushi here was excellent! I went with a friend, and everything was incredibly fresh and delicious. We definitely ordered quite a bit for just the two of us, but left with full, happy bellies! Can’t wait to return for more.

Yamato Sushi is hands-down one of the finest sushi spots I’ve ever visited. Every bite was flawless—absolute perfection. The staff were incredibly welcoming, the service was impeccable, and the atmosphere had a great vibe. If you love sushi, this place is a must-visit. 10/10!

Yelp
This place was delicious! Stumbled upon it during our one day in Edinburgh. Staff was very welcoming, even tho it was approaching closing. YUMMY!

Yelp
I downloaded Yelp for the sole purpose of leaving a good review of this place. The atmosphere was cool and calm. the service are spectacular, all of the staff were so friendly. AND THE SUSHI IS UNMATCHED. I cannot stress enough how much joy the food gave me. The salmon panko maki will live in my dreams. I can't recommend this place enough!!!

Yelp
On a Saturday evening we had been to many restaurants only to be turned away as they were fully booked and we had no reservation. Yamato were nice and managed to accommodate us for an hour, between 7:30pm to 8:30pm for when they needed the table back, so I was really grateful (particularly since we had been walking around foolishly reservation-less on a Saturday night, starving trying to find a place to eat!) Yamato is one of the higher end, posh Japanese restaurants where everything is meticulously prepared to Instagram worthy perfection. Great presentation and taste, but as each portion is small and prices are high, expect a high food bill if not double the amount of a casual restaurant. But for fine Japanese dining, I used to live in Japan and I can say that the food here was very authentic. It also made me happy to see a few dishes I thought I'd only see in Japan, such as Chawanmushi, Chilled Tofu, Miso Aubergine, Unagi don etc. so it was quite nostalgic! The service was excellent and efficient, staff were polite despite it being busy. The atmosphere was more quiet in line with the fine dining experience, and there is Japanese style seating available as well as regular table seats. I would recommend a reservation, as I think we were just very lucky to be accommodated particularly around 6-8pm. Overall, expensive but authentic Japanese fine dining in the heart of Edinburgh.

Yelp
We went on the opening evening, and there were a few hiccups with service, but the staff were great and the food was amazing. I think I have found my new favourite sushi bar in Edinburgh!

Yelp
Amazing sushi! They have very tasty rolls with beef. We also had fantastic classic salmon rolls and gyoza.

Yelp
We went here for dinner 2 nights ago and are already going back! My family and I had been loyal visitors to Suishya which has now closed down and also had been to Kanpai a few times - which is owned by the same people. The service was excellent and the decor was great too! The food was fantastic - I had the soba noodles, miso soup and the Wakame salad. I shared with the other members of my party the agadashi tofu and the miso aubergine. The other members of my party got the salmon panko roll which is a favourite of theirs from kanpai and some assorted nigiri. I highly recommend you visit!

Yelp
Terrible service. The restaurant may be new but there is no excuse for never receiving your food after alerting four staff members over a 30 minute period. The staff did not apologize nor did they do anything to fix the situation. I had to go to the counter just to request the bill as they never returned to our table.
