Hidden in the mountains. Nice view. Great private onsen. Great breakfast and dinner. A great stay after visiting Kamikochi.

A really nice place to rest and recover after a 4 day 3 night hike. The outdoor onsen was great, being able relax to the sound of the river while enjoying the greenery was blissful. The food (for dinner and breakfast) was delicious. We also enjoyed having drinks at the "rest corners" found around the estate, which had a cozy feel and was comfortable.

When you want to go to a Ryokan, you need to understand a couple of things. It is not a Holiday Inn. It is not the Ritz. However, if you want an authentic Japanese experience, this is the place. Great food and service. The staff is great and the ethic of service pervades your stay. Hilda beef, local to the accommodations and served every meal, is even better. All in all, this place is a can’t miss.

This Ryokan provide different plan and limit the payment methods for Japanese local and foreign people (who is not living Japan). Only few rooms is available for foreign people and you can only book with booking or the English ver offcial website. If you happened to book it on Jalan or other Japanese website without carefully reading the notes. You'll received a email to ask you cancel your reservation. Also one men in the Ryokan who picked the phone sounds very rude and regimented with all the rules when you speak to him in Japanese. But when talk to them in English, they might help to open a new room on Booking website to let you book. Maybe they set all these rules to serve you prefectly due to they only have few staffs can speak English. But this practice is not professional and rude. It shows a fully untrust to foreigners. I've traveled to Japan 10+ times. This is the first Onsen Ryokan who ask for a full payment in advance ONLY for foreigns. All the other ones will respect all customer and let customer to decide the way of payment by their preference.

Oh, what a joy this place was, after a few days in busy Tokyo! We stayed at Soene for two nights and enjoyed every minute of it. Okushida Onsen is a very small "town" so it goes without saying that Soene is in an isolated spot. It sits on a river, and some of the onsens overlook the river. There are several different onsens, including private ones that you can use on a first come basis. The onsen bathing is only part of the experience though. The rooms are Japanese style, which was a new experience for us. Both breakfast and dinner are traditional Japanese (Kanseki) meals, and were in as of themselves an experience we will not forget.||In all of its beauty it needs to be noted that the ryokan is in need of a bit of an update. It's not something I saw at first, but as you finally have taken in the general beauty of the place and of the hotel I noticed things such as the carpet fraying in some places. This is nothing major, and I would happily go back to the hotel for another stay!

My husband and I stayed here for one night on our 2-week holiday to Japan, and it was without a doubt one of the highlights. As soon as you set foot through the door, the staff treat you like royalty. We arrived on a cool crisp day, and the reception was warm, with lovely fires burning and we were treated to a welcome tea and sweets. Our room was lovely and spacious (Japanese style room) and comfortable robes and pajamas are provided in the room for guests to use the whole time they are there. |The food was very good for both dinner and breakfast, and the presentation was exceptional. And the best part is the onsen! They have 3 to choose from, including a gorgeous riverside spot, and a private onsen which doesn't require reservations or extra fees. The private onsen was a really nice treat and they are absolutely gorgeous. |Highly highly recommended! The only tough part is the location, they are quite remote, we had a rental car so it was easy enough for us but I'm not sure how easy it is for public transport. The remote setting is one of the most beautiful points though!!

Located in the remote but absolutely beautiful okuhida, which is a region surrounding the Japanese alps. It is not near any touristy sights except the nearby rope way. That also makes it a perfectly serene and quiet sanctuary for relaxation.|My family was staying in a duplex room and the view from our room was absolutely stunning. Snow capped mountains and white willowy trees and a view accompanied by the sounds of a stream|Right next to our room. The room is v clean , spacious and comfortable. |This resort has three outdoor onsens and the one by the river is not to be missed. Dinner and breakfast is really|Michelin starred. |Please do not miss this resort if you are on the way to a major city and this resort happens to be on the route.

I was absolutely blown away by Yamazatonoiori Soene. If you are looking for 5 star experience without overpaying much like at other ryokans in more populous areas, this is your spot. The catch here is that Yamazatonoiori is not in your typical touristy area, and thus is a bit harder to get to, but it is totally worth it. Plus, the trip up to the mountains is beautiful so you can really enjoy the journey there too. During a 2 week trip to Japan, we did this right in the middle (between Tokyo and Kyoto) and it was a perfect 2 night get away from the chaos of the cities. We used trains and a bus to get there and it wasn't too bad.||||The service is wonderful, the setting is serene and so beautiful, and the ryokan is very authentic feeling and has a ton of character.||||The staff doesn't speak English very well, but enough for you to get by. The rooms are outstanding, and the food is absolutely amazing. Truly authentic and Michelin start quality. You really can't get a better deal.||||The onsens are stunning and so many different options. There are 3 private onsens (each with an indoor and outdoor onsen), as well as 3 other public onsens each more beautiful than the next.||||Do yourself a favor and stay here.
