Yelp
(Disclaimer: Review based on visit to Taipei in November 2013.)
Wrapping up my series of reviews on Taipei is Yangmingshan National Park. It is one of nine national parks in Taiwan. If you are looking for a good place to hike near Taipei on your visit, I would recommend this park as it is within city limits.
To get to the park, you can take a car or a public bus to get there. I took the latter option which wasn't as hard to do as you would think. I took the MRT and then transferred to a public bus that took me to the entrance of the park. I didn't need to wait very long either as there are typically buses every 15-20 minutes headed to the park.
My visit to the park was brief as my visit to Taipei was just a few days, so I wanted to get as much in. Though you could possibly spend a whole day in the park as there is so much to do. In addition to hiking, there are hot springs inside the park.
Although my visit was short, my opinion of the park was that it is a beautiful place to visit with hiking trails that are well taken care of. I came here in November and even though Taiwan has warm weather year-round, you will want to bring a jacket as it can get chilly here.
While this is a beautiful spot, stay on the hiking paths. The guide that I read prior to visiting never said anything about this, but apparently Yangmingshan is known for having venomous snakes! So for your own safety, don't go off the path seeking danger.
Even knowing that there are snakes around, I would still recommend this park. If you are a nature lover, you will love the beauty found here. Just be safe and take the necessary precautions before visiting.
