Yangon Excelsior

A Return Visit After 3 Years I first stayed at Yangon Excelsior with my mom back in 2021, and we absolutely loved everything about it. From the stylish, well-appointed rooms to the attentive service, the generous breakfast (complete with free-flow champagne), the central location, and the reasonable pricing, it ticked every box for us. We left with warm memories and always recommended it to others. Three years later, we decided to return, hoping for the same experience. While the room remains just as tidy and well-maintained as we remembered, we noticed a few things that were off this time. There were some technical issues like power outages and a false fire alarm during our stay, which disrupted the sense of comfort we once associated with the place. The energy and attentiveness of the staff felt a bit low compared to our first visit, and the breakfast, once a highlight, now feels more limited in both selection and flair. Despite these points, Yangon Excelsior is still one of our preferred hotels when visiting the city. The design and location still stand out, and the rooms remain comfortable. But this recent stay made us wonder if the hotel has lost a bit of its former shine. Hopefully, it’s just a temporary dip, we’d love to see it return to its original standard. Still recommend this place to those looking for a great room at a great price in the city center of Yangon.

I have a fondness to stay at Myanmar heritage hotels. This time, I chose Excelsior, rejuvenated from the former site of Steel Brothers Building.||The arrival and check-in was seamless and very friendly. The room was superbly clean and well-equipped. Normally, I make a fuss over the pillow and bed. The pillow was fresh and firm; bed suited my back. After a hot day, coming back to a cool room was welcoming.||Like all Yangon streets, the road outside is dusty and noisy. The room is sound-proofed until when the buzzing sound of evening generators. During my one night stay, there were a couple of electricity disruptions for about 30 seconds each time. Fortunately, the hotel's standby generators kicked in.There is not much of "City View" from my room though.||WiFi strength was good. ||I wished they have more international channels, which can be considered when normalcy returns.||I did not find a room safe. Perhaps the front counter has safe deposit boxes.||This is a very value-for-money hotel with many foreigners and wealthy Burmese as guests. I like the decor and display of old typewriters and photographic stand, akin to a news room.||I will come back again for sure.

This is honestly the best hotel in Myanmar. Travelled the world but honestly still the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in ever. It’s easily worth $500 a night. The housemaids are very detailed in what they do and everything is just so nice and in place. Just Perfect here.

We had a wonderful stay at Yangon Excelsior. We loved the colonial style and atmosphere. The rooms were so spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious with a large choice of items. Staff were extremely friendly, smiling and always available. Wer recommend this hotel for your next stay in Yangon.

Beautifully designed hotel with incredible staff that deliver some of the best customer service I’ve experienced travelling the world. I’ve stayed twice at this boutique hotel and each time and has been amazing. Breakfast is delicious. The rooms are smartly designed and very modern. Bath products are high quality and smell great. The bed is a huge and super comfortable. But it’s really the warm, friendly service of the staff that go above and beyond for their customers. Definitely stay at this hotel! 5 stars across the board.

Wonderful hotel in a quiet street of dowtown area. Top service from check in, breakfast (mention to eggs benedict), cocktail bar, restaurant (amazing crab salad and peissegueiro wine) and housekeeping. Very large room with the best mattress we ever had. A real gem!

Top class hotel with amazing room and so wonderful staff. People were just so friendly helpful and welcoming. I particularly loved the "good night" card during turndown service. Thanks to everyone at Excelior for the great stay. Was just perfect

Classic colonial-style room with modern renovation, everything is nice at hall and corridor, room bed is soft and comfortable, separate bath and toilet with super cleanliness, kind and attentive clerks. And the slippers in the room are the best quality I have seen in Myanmar. Location is near from Sule pagoda and in the very centre of Yangon downtown. Only regret is outside noise and bad smell on the nearby street, there are so many roadside vendors and loud Indian music going on till evening. I woke up early in the morning by the noise of generator outside and opposite side of the hotel, for which the hotel is not responsible. If sound-proof room is available even with extra cost it would make me want to come back.
