Everything we ordered tasted great -- with the exception of the fish and tofu hot pot. First of all, there were bones in the fish, but secondly the fish had an over-cooked texture and just tested bland. I especially loved the black pepper steak sizzling plate and szechuan crispy beef, though. Service is always fast and efficient. Lots of menu items to choose from to suit all tastes. There are vegetarian options, but I don't believe there are many vegan options. Best to call ahead if that is a concern. Btw, I heard new ownership will take place in November 2024, so eat here while you can. There's no telling whether the quality will change or not.

Felt like they forgot about our order. When we asked about it, our 9 plates all arrived at the same time. Not ideal when you are having Dim Sum as some dish will get cold. Anyway the food was excellent. Our table was at the end of the windows, like the last one.

Been coming here for many years. Food is always consistent and the prices are fair. Highly recommend you make a reservation for weekend dim sum or get there at 1030am when they open to ensure that you don’t have to wait.

Generic Stuff

Google
Haven't had their dimsum but we went for their dinner menu. The service was good as we had someone in the group who spoke Vietnamese. The food was good too. Some dishes were better at other restaurants but if you go in a big group you can try many dishes. My personal favorite was the crispy beef!

An iconic landmark in Ottawa's Chinatown that I've been eating at since the 1980's. Big and lively with excellent and super-professional service that can handle a 20-person table as easily as a 2-person one. The best food - try the Peking duck! Love this place.

The Yangtze restaurant has been one of the best go to places in Ottawa for Chinese and dimsum food for decades. It has a large capacity to cater to a lot of people and large parties. The food is consistently great and prices are good. You can order from items on the paper they give you or just tell them what you want and the cooks usually will make it if they have the ingredients. I like the meat eggplant in spicy oyster sauce the most. If you like my reviews, videos or photos why not roll the dice and scream Yangtze for a great meal.

Google
Coming from toronto and experiencing this restaurant based on reviews and location....disappointing to say the least. Claypot dishes came lukewarm at best, our steamed fish dish was expensive filet fish, it was overcooked and underwhelming. The only saving grace was its steamed hainanese chicken... even the lobster was overcooked with little ginger onion flavour. For such an expensive dinner it was sad at best. At least the service was impeccable. I just wish it tasted as good as it looked. Go elsewhere if youre looking for good authentic chinese food.

Google
The restaurant’s aesthetic is warm, the exterior is very nice and the staff in their majority were friendly. That’s where the positivity ends. The quality of ingredients used is unacceptable for the prices being charged. I tried a few dishes and in all honesty the only edible dishes for me were the spring rolls, the rice and the chicken basil dish. Everything else was sub par at best. The shrimps used were frozen party cocktail shrimps that tasted like they have been thawed and a frozen a few times before they were cooked and served and the tea tasted like swimming pool water. As for the patrons, I almost exclusively saw older pensioners eating here. Felt that they deserved better.

Yelp
Good friendly service, have been going for decades and always good food and nice atmosphere albeit dated.

Yelp
A popular place in ottawa. As a cantonese person, I must say alot of the dishes are authentic and there is a large menu. The restaurant is a large location. It is easy to call and do takeout on a weekday. The food did seem a little bland though. It was a bit on the pricy end. I did enjoy the many menu options and nice set menu options (dinner for 2 options as an example) that allow you to sample a variety of items. Easy weeknight dinner option

Yelp
Great spot for Dim sum and canto food in Chinatown. Some items are really good like the golden lava buns and black bean chow mein but other dishes were just average.

Yelp
Good Cantonese food in Ottawa??? Whaaat??? Probably one of the few legit Cantonese style food restaurants in Ottawa and the food is as surprisingly as authentic as it gets. On our visit to Ottawa, my expectations of finding a really good Chinese / Cantonese restaurant was pretty low. After all, no one really raves about the Chinese food in the city and the Chinatown here is a tiny fraction of many of the popular Chinatowns across the continent. With that said, Yangtze was actually pretty decent and kind of surprised me a bit. We dropped in on a Wednesday evening and the restaurant was pretty crowded. Mind you, it's a spacious restaurant so there was also plenty of seating, but I can imagine that weekends might be even busier. All of the employees speak Cantonese and still mask up as of May 2022. The menu here is full of dinner deals for groups of 2, 3, 4 and 6 people, but you can also freely order entrees a la carte. We decided to get the Dinner for 2, Cantonese style, which came with a Straw Mushroom Egg Soup, 2 Pork Spring Rolls, Chicken Filet w/ Mixed Vegetables, Cantonese Sweet and Sour Beef and a Shrimp Yangtze Fried Rice. Quite a lot of food for actually 2 people! Oh, and did I mention, they serve a portion of their dim sum menu during the evening as well! Soooo we decided to grab a few dishes to try - Shrimp Har Gow, Pork Shui Mui and an Steamed Golden Lava Bun. Overall, all of the food, like I said, was actually pretty decent to pretty good. All of it was authentic, just like how we expect it when cooked at home. The Chicken Filet w/ Mixed Vegetables was very saucy and the chicken was quite tasty. The Cantonese Sweet and Sour Beef was also delicious. If you're familiar with the Cantonese Sweet and Sour Pork Chops served in Cantonese restaurants, this was pretty much the same recipe. As for the dim sum, on the spot as well! The service was great throughout the evening and waiters/waitresses were very friendly. Parking purely exist on the street, but on the weekday we were around, there was plenty of it. I was really surprised at how good the food was considering the lack of a Cantonese food scene here, however, this might be more of the exception. BUT, if you're looking for legit, authentic Cantonese food in Ottawa, Yangzte serves it!

Yelp
I have been here many times for dine in pre-covid times. This is one of my family's to go spot for dim sum. We've also had family parties here and their fancy 12-course meals. Today we ordered takeout during Covid-19 to support some local businesses. They have their menu on their website so it was easy to order over the phone. It only took 15-20min to fulfill the order. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Covid precautions were great. You call upon arrival and they meet you at the door with your order and collect your payment. Lots of hand sanitizer available. This is definitely a favourite for dim sum. I wish I lived closer so it was a nice treat when we were in the area.

Yelp
Slightly pricier than our usual DimSum place, but the portions were significant enough that it wasn't an issue considering recent events and cost increases. It was a fill-slip place rather than circulating carts, although that is likely pandemic related. Staff were kind enough to check that we had intended to order as much as we did before delivering two tables worth of food to us which was a nice effort. Due to portion size differences we overdid it a little (roughly $230 worth for 5 adults and 3 kids) so 3 of us left with full takeouts. The quality was excellent for most items, although their Singapore noodles were a miss. Great place for a group, not a particularly impressive spot compared to my MTL favourites.

Yelp
Now that restaurants are open for indoor dining, my parents want to support them. So we went to our regular place, Yangtze in Ottawa's Chinatown. These are some of the items we ordered. Off the dim sum menu, my mom suggested I get the BBQ pork bun and the sticky rice. My dad ordered the Shanghai noodles. My mom ordered the triple delight seafood sizzle plate. We also got pancakes with vegetables to wrap in but I forgot to take a picture of those. In the fortune cookies, my dad got the one about teaching, which is appropriate because he was a teacher. And my mom got the one about the week's happy events and she gave that one to me, because I won the comedy contest on Wednesday. We got takeout containers and took a lot home to eat tomorrow.

Yelp
Came here for Christmas dinner with the family, first time we've ever been so I'm glad we were able to get a reservation since this place was packed! We started with some hot and sour soup as well as some veggie spring rolls. I was a huge fan of the spring rolls, didn't find them oily and they were super crunchy. We then got a bunch of different vegetarian dishes. Eggplant stir fry, veggie strictly, Singapore noodles, fried rice, tofu stir fry and a lemon chicken for the meat eaters. We had 10 people at the table and we had plenty of food for everyone, great sized servings and all the dishes tasted great. My favs were the rice and the noodles, they tasted so flavourful that's I could've ate the whole thing myself. Giving it 4 stars since the service was pretty slow when we asked for small items like water, new utensils etc Looking forward to com in here again and actually taking pictures next time

Yelp
We head over here periodically, and have always gotten enjoyable meals. They have a fairly extensive menu, so you can stick with what you know or venture a little further and try new things. Decor is not notable. Service is gracious. Would I recommend: Yes Would I return: Yes

Yelp
This place is really busy at the mid-morning to lunch hour. I highly recommend getting a reservation. It's even harder to find seats if you're a party of two since they mainly have the huge round tables for larger groups. They serve dim sum using the push-cart system so you get to pick and choose what you'd like based on what they bring you. I got the typical dim sum dishes: - Siu Mai - Har Gow - Chicken Feet - Steamed Beef Ribs - Shrimp Siu Mai - Pork Spare Ribs - Beef Tripe - Fried Shrimp Ball - Peanut Dumplings - Egg Tarts The siu mai and har gow were very juicy and flavourful. They did pretty well on those. The chicken feet was so good that I ordered two portions of it. Another dish that stood out was the shrimp siu mai. If you're a lover of shrimp, then you ought to try it. It is full of shrimp and is chewy in texture. I've never had peanut dumplings before but they're something to try as well. It's mixed with vegetables and meat so it has a lot of great flavour. To end off, we got the egg tarts. They were very buttery and sweet, just the perfect dessert item.

Yelp
Great dim sum selection. Service is fast. Often very crowded so good idea to make a reservation for dim sum.

Yelp
Simply enjoyable. We came in the middle of a Sunday afternoon and they were still serving Dim Sum. From my understanding, Yangtze had some ups and downs over the many years it's been around but bottom line is that it is usually quite good and still OK when they are not at their best. This is great for large groups, in fact we heard at least three Happy Birthday songs. One thing bothered me was the decor, the chairs, tables and dividers seemed outdated compared to the modern ceiiling crystal lights. Also it was brown which worked with the off white wall. It was definitely missing color. Certainly the brown color scheme makes the restaurant seem disorderly and dirty which it is not actually. The table cloths are simple and we had paper napkins rolled up with the utensils...it surly missed some classiness. Our waiter was super as all the waiters were attentive to everyone. This Ottawa eatery isn't comparable in sophistication and delivery as to those in Toronto but it stays with the basics-it offers good quality Chinese authentic food. Funny we forgot to take pictures of the food but we ordered a seasonal sauteed garlic, Halo veggie with a sizzling beef on a hot plate. $$

I Am A Boomer 2.

Yelp
We walked out. We arrived around 230 PM on Sunday Dec 4 2022 and were told that it was about 20-30 minute wait. This was not big deal as we had seen a regular procession of large groups finishing and leaving. By the time the two of us were seated at a 4-seat table the room was about 50% occupied. There were two waiters clearing and re-setting the large round tables at the back of the room opposite the front door and there were three waitresses in our section serving three other tables occupied by couples, All five of these wait staff saw us but did not acknowledge us even though they regularly walked within three feet of us. I am pretty sure that the 3 ladies working the door could see that we were not being looked after as they were just standing around...there was no line up as 50% of the tables were empty. With the room so empty it was not hard to see that of all the tables we were the only ones with no tea / drinks and no food. When a chinese couple, who had been seated after us, were not only waited on but served their first dish we call it quits, got up and left our completed order slip on the table and took our $80 elsewhere. We had waited 15 minutes in a half empty room. As we left the lead front door lady asked what was wrong. When we explained that we had been left unserved for 15 minutes she assumed a "so what?" attitude. She simply did not care about losing 2 customers forever....she knew that their dinner rush was imminent and our $60-80 bill forgone was not going to make or break their profits. I don't care how good their food is and I will never find out. They do not deserve any top ranking ..their unprofessional service should relegate them to the bottom of any list.

Yelp
Got really authentic dim sum, I'd say the restaurant itself is furnished like an old Hong Kong dim sum place. The portion size is also big considering the price. Would definitely come again, hope they will consider making the Cantonese sponge cake!

Yelp
Great fun and very satisfying Chinese food. A big open dining room full of big round tables circled with Asian families having a thoroughly good time. We had standard dishes, shrimp with cashews and snow peas, sweet & sour pork, etc. And they were all good. Our waitress was good and fun too. Allbin all well worth it.

Yelp
If you're looking for a Dim Sum joint in Ottawa that still pushes the carts through the aisles, here's your place. The selection in the carts isn't extensive, but it includes most of the favourites. Still, I was looking for more, and you have to order off the menu if you want the rest of the selection. The Dim Sum is good, and I happily ate my fill. Prices are acceptable, and there's street parking if you come by car. I will probably be back.

Yelp
So, I should preface this by saying I am by no means a Dim Sum expert. I came here a few times when I was younger, with my parents, but had always been such a picky eater as a kid that I was too scared to try anything new. Sadly, not much has changed in that department. I really like that they go around with carts and you can SEE what it is you're ordering. I'm a really visual person so, this helps me get past some of my aversions to new things. If it looks appealing- sure, I'll try it! I also really like the rotating tray on the table, which makes it much easier for a large group like ours to share, without having to reach across and keep passing things. The atmosphere, to me, was a little on the dark side, but not uncomfortably so- I just really prefer to be in bright settings when I'm eating so that I can better identify what's about to go into my mouth. I'm fine with darker settings at dinner, but for lunch it was a bit odd for me... but I will say there was a decent amount of natural light which is always nice! It was fairly inexpensive since we split amongst our group, which is always a plus since it's so hard to find a place to eat out without breaking the bank these days. The service was a bit inconsistent at times (there would be some longer lulls with no carts passing through) and I do wish there were more options that didn't have seafood (shrimp) included, but I didn't leave hungry and it was still pretty good. If I could do half stars, this would be more of a 3.5 I plan to revisit and try some more (new) things again!

Yelp
We originally planned to eat in on Christmas day evening, as we have done over the past years. But with Covid and the omicron variant running rampant, I was gracious enough to call two days prior to our reservation to cancel. They thanked me and I said I would call on Christmas day evening for takeout, which they thanked me for as well. I just called to place a take-out order, and they refused to take any more orders! Completely unreliable unprofessional service!

Yelp
The management/receptionist who's name is Eva was inconsiderate with me for waving my order for Dim Sum in order to get the servers' attention. My Asian friend and I had been waiting 10 minutes and no one had come to claim it; so, my friend encouraged me to wave my order which I did for 5 minutes. When Eva, the receptionist/manager came to my table she told me I had made the restaurant look bad by waving my order. I told her that I had not been in a bad mood; and actually the restaurant looked bad for taking so long to claim my order. My friend told Eva it was unprofessional for her to speak to the customers in the way she had. She told my friend that she could speak to the customers in any way she pleased. That said, I left 25% tip because the wait staff were very good and the food was delicious. I went for dim sum on September 5th, 2021. I called September 6th to complain to the owner. I was told by the woman who answered the phone she didn't know when the owner was coming in next. She refused to give me his/her/their name. I asked for her name and was told she didn't feel comfortable giving me her name. I left my name and number and asked for the owner to call back regarding a complaint. I doubt if I will hear back so I am placing a complaint in Yelp and in Trip Advisor.

Yelp
I've been to this restaurant many times, and it never disappoints! The decor hasn't changed in what seems like a lifetime, but the food has stayed deeeeelicious! The dim sum is pricier than other places, but that's because the sizes are so large, and as a big bonus, it's offered all day :) It can get pretty packed on the weekends, especially during happy hour, so you may need to take a number and wait awhile, though the restaurant has an upstairs AND downstairs to accommodate everyone. For larger groups, they have tables with lazy Susans or you can rent a private party room. They also have banquet and wedding menus. This is the only restaurant I've been to in the Ottawa area that makes Szechuan beef the way my family has always eaten it - battered, fried crispy, and smothered in a sweet and spicy chili sauce. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Most recently, my family and I had the Yangtze fried rice and beef sizzling plate, which came with onions and celery. Everything was reasonably priced, delicious, and served very quickly. They also offer delivery and the quality of food preparation and taste is no different, but there are areas they won't deliver to, so when calling for delivery, it's best to ask first if your area is included.

Yelp
Food taste good, but not worth waiting an hour after order. Guess they forgot our orders.
google avatar

Yelp
Dim sum here is good although there were less choices then other dim sum places that I'm used to going. Some of the dishes could of been hotter. We got there early enough (11) but when we were done by noon, there was quite a bit of hungry patrons waiting their turn.
google avatar

Yelp
It's OK here nothing compared to what we have in Toronto. We came here after a failed attempt to hike in Gatineau. My family wanted to Chinese food so we stumbled upon Yangtze in Chinatown. The restaurant is on the 2nd level very spacious but dimly lit interior, they can definitely use a refresh from the looks of the carpeting and walls. The decor is really old looking and to me the place felt dirty. We arrived and was seated right away which was nice because we had 2 youngsters with us that was hungry. They serve traditional style dim sum here where the people will push around a cart with a few steamers on and you can open up and check out what they are serving on that cart. I find that their food is really fresh and hot because they only have a few things at a time when pushing around so the cart sells out fast and will need to wait for the next person. The taste itself was meh I didn't find the taste of the food to be what I am used to back home in Toronto, we have many dim sum restaurants to choose from within close proximity of each other so they are made with a lot more care and taste much better. What I didn't like was they always came out and went around the same route with their new items and we almost always got nothing by the time they got to our table. I much prefer that we order what dishes we want from a ticket rather than being pushed around, this way we are guaranteed to have the freshest and the dishes you most desire. Dim sum can be cheap or expensive depending how you order because this is like Chinese tapas you pay per dish that you have and by the size so the prices vary depending on the size they mark off on your ticket, kind of like a rotating sushi bar. You can also order food directly from your server like noodle and rice dishes or a la carte dishes if dim sum isn't your thing. For me personally I think I would pass next time I'm in town.

Yelp
Not sure what happened the first time I was here, but the second time was MUCH better. The food was tasty and the bill was very inexpensive. Service still wasn't fantastic, but the experience was good enough to upgrade my rating.

Yelp
Monday morning my sister and I went to what Ottawa considers the best dim sum restaurant in town. Hmmm... It wouldn't be fair to compare the Yangtze to some of the more popular dim sum places in Big City Vancouver. On this basis the Yangtze is pretty darn good! I like that they still employ the 'old' style push cart dim sum method. The modern places don't have the time to push carts any more. Customers these days just fill out a menu card and they get their food delivered to their table. The Yangtze's tradition approach is a refreshing change. We ordered a bunch of dishes and they were pretty good. Not as hot and fresh as customers may get in Van City, but it was still pretty good stuff!
google avatar

Yelp
Great place to stop in for dim sum! The hostess and waitresses were great and friendly with the kids and the food carts kept coming with a variety of items to choose. It can get quite busy on weekends so plan to come early or be prepared to wait for a table. The one issue we had was trying to get tea refills..we had a larger table so we would go through a pot quickly. Overall great lunch and will be back.

Yelp
Ordered some dim sum today as a celebration and went to the restaurant around 2pm where it was empty. On the bright side, because it is empty, they make their dim sum to order so it is fresh. Though if you go in the morning, they have carts! We ordered an onslaught of food, including siu mai, shrimp siu mai, har gao, deep fried fish balls, beef fried noodles, chicken's feet, beef balls, fried dumplings, spare ribs, chicken sticky rice and stuffed eggplant. Highlights were the fried shrimp balls, and shrimp siu mai. The beef balls were quite disappointing with little flavour and it's about $5 for only two of them, so it wasn't a great price for what I got. Everything was quite good, not oversalted, but this is not a place to go to get the best bang for your buck. The portions are quite small when they get to you, but their siu mai and har gao, which is standard dim sum food, was good. The building and ambiance is quite nice, so it's a nice place to go with family, friends, or anyone really. The service is a bit slow but not great. All in all it was good, but did not exceed all expectations.

Yelp
We arrived late on a Sunday and we're looking for a place to eat. After checking yelp, we picked this place based on location, review, and the fact that they were open. I didn't expect too much but it turned out to be a pretty good meal. We live in an area where there isn't any great Chinese and this was great by comparison. Totally enjoyed ourselves.

Yelp
Last dinner in Ottawa on a holiday, a lot of restaurants were closed. Fortunately Yangtze was open. My group of friend ordered the dumplings and noodle soup, sweet and sour chicken, pork in pepper sauce, tofu & eggplant with garlic sauce, ma pow tofu (vegetarian) and a dinner for 3 which included: hot and sour soup, 3 pork spring rolls, yangtze fried rice, general tao chicken, a beef dish, szechuan shrimp, and one other dish, along with 4 bowls of rice. For dessert, it came with fortune cookies and almond cookies. There was a total of 6 people at my table with one individual who was vegan. The vegan dishes (ma pow tofu with no meat and tofu & eggplant) were very tasty, with the right amount of seasoning. All of the dishes tasted surprisingly pretty good, however the hot and sour soup was a little heavy on the sour side, but the spice was on point. All in all the dishes were seasoned enough, but what brought the rating down was the presentation/plating of the dishes. If they put a little bit more time on presentation, the quality of the food would definitely be elevated to another level. The comparison of chinese food at this restaurant to ones in toronto would be the pricing and the presentation. The pricing was a little on the pricer side but the quality of the food was basically the same.

Yelp
Yangtze is a really nice place. If we could do half stars, I would rate this place a true 3.5/5. Sometimes the service and food quality can be inconsistent, but you can generally count on tasty dim sum and decent Asian cuisine when you go to this location. I would definitely recommend giving Yangtze a shot if you're in the area with friends.

Yelp
Easiest review ever: BEST CHINESE FOOD IN OTTAWA. Done! The ambiance is well above-average; the food is quite tasty; the service was even decent! I didn't think Ottawa would have anything like West Coast Chinese restaurants -- but this is pretty close!! They even had a above-average Asian/Caucasian customer ratio (my personal way to measure Chinese authenticity). ...however, prices are nearly double that of my favorite comparable restaurants around San Francisco. It's about $30 per person here -- yikes! I'd like to come back here and try their dim sum next time!
google avatar

Jessica L.

Yelp
The food is alright. Nothing special. They lack a lot of main dishes that most dim sum locations, so it was a disappointment. Their chili oil is insanely spicy but good! It's different. They did not have the sweet tofu dessert! I'm not sure if they just didn't have it that day or they don't have it at all but wow, a dim sum without that is weird. The service is slightly better than most.

Jayde L.

Yelp
Best authentic dim sum place I have ever encountered! I come here almost everytime when going through Ottawa. Having basically grown up going to this restaurant. I can confidently say that the food has remained consistent and amazing. The staff are friendly and professional, and the overall restaurant is well kept. The food is always hot and flavourful.

Yelp
Pretty great dim sum, for Ottawa it's probably your best bet. Large restaurant, I've heard it can be busy but I've never had to wait - plus they actually take reservations so you can avoid waiting if you plan in advance. My only complaint is if you come later in the day (we came at 1:30) a lot of the best options from the morning run out. However they still let you order off the a la carte menu specialty items so don't fret if you don't see something you want on the carts.

Yelp
I remember visiting Ottawa as a young kid and eating at this restaurant. It's always been consistently good! Many weddings are held here. I will admit that I did take a hiatus from eating here however upon returning I found no difference. The staff are friendly and the food always hits the spot. The decor is simply but elegant. Sitting by the window you can people watch or enjoy the Gateway to Chinatown while you enjoy your food. My favourites and recommendations include, Crab and Sea Foam soap - Pieces of meat, egg whites, in a tasty soup base with chunks of sea foam. Sea Foam is crunchy and almost tasteless. Szechuan Beef - a dish consisting of crispy beef with a touch of spice Shrimp with pepper salt - shrimp lightly battered with a slightly salty and spicy taste Sizzling plate Cantonese style - Tender beef in a sweet sauce that comes on a sizzling plate Beef with fried Rice noodles - Black bean sauce with tender beef and fried wide rice noodles Lobster stir fried in garlic on a bed of noodle and of course the usual and very common dishes Fried Rice, Sweet and Sour Pork, General Taos Chicken, Imperial Spare Ribs A rule we usually follow is 1 plate per adult. Take out is available. Parking along the street or city lot are your only choices. The pay lot you have to pay 7 days a week up until 9pm. Street parking from what I recall is free on weekends and after 7pm during week days. For free parking, try parking on Primrose St which is north the restaurant and accessible from Bronson, north of Somerset, and Cambridge Street N which is located south of the restaurant and is accessed off Bronson Ave via Christe St south of Somerset. Parking on either one of these alternatives is a short walk to the restaurant. Pricing wise it is slightly more expensive however worth the difference. Dim Sum is available and is served by servers who push carts around. If you're impatient and know what the dim sum dish is called, you can always find your server and order direct. Plenty of seating however it does get quite busy. Wait times are usually minimal.

Yelp
When it comes to traditional Chinese food, the pickings are a bit slim in Ottawa. Yangtze is pretty far from "traditional" and isn't even the best in Ottawa, but it's pretty decent overall. It doesn't do anything amazingly well, but it doesn't do any horrible either, most dishes are just solid. If you're not looking for a very specific Chinese cuisine (Northern, Schezuan, etc.) or looking for a place to go with friends who aren't Asian foodies, then Yangtze is a very safe bet in Ottawa. Dishes I typically order are: - Beef Hunan Style - Schezuan Shrimp - Lobster with Ginger Shallot Sauce - General Tao Chicken - Chinese Snow Pea tips with Garlic Sauce

Yelp
Ordered dim sum after hours and it was delicious! Also ordered off the menu and a few things that weren't on the menu but they made for us anyway! Great authentic Chinese food.

Yelp
Had high hopes as I've heard great things, but unfortunately the service for dim sum wasn't the greatest (lunch time). We had to ask for the carts to come to our table as they seemed to only be circling the outside of the room. Personally had to ask a waitress for items we wanted to order as every cart that came around seemed to be the same items and no diversity in the plates. No water was served until asked and a lot of items we order from other restaurants were not made here. Food did taste great but probably wouldn't go back due to service.

Yelp
This is the best Dim Sum you will ever taste in your life...I guarantee you, that you will just want to keep eating because the food is so good. I have gone their with my friends and their 8 children and we have such a good time it is incredible. There is nothing like Dim Sum, anywhere!

Yelp
The food is incredible. I've eaten here easily 50 times over the last 25 years and have NEVER been disappointed. You may not get a lot of smiles from the staff but the food and reasonable price make up for that. Dim sum is fantastic for a quick lunch (in and out in 20 min ususally). It's a popular place so expect to wait for a table on special occasions (e.g. father's day we waited 45min for a table but the entire group of 8 was happy we did when the food arrived).

Yelp
I visit Ottawa around twice a year. My family only eats at the Yangtze for Chinese cuisine. My sister (who lives in Quebec) recommends this place since my dad is very particular when it comes to good Chinese food. We found parking very easily. Got seated right away. It wasn't too busy since we got in at 5:50 but 10 mins after, a tour bus of 40 came in. This tells me food here has got to be good... When we left, it was a full house. Very busy. We ordered 9 dishes. All came pretty fast. We ate: - Chicken and corn soup (very delicious) - Spring rolls (we got chicken... My nephew loves it) - Sliced beef rice noodle (loved it) - Shanghai fried noodles (could've been better if it had chicken or shrimp) - Sweet and sour pork (very addictive) - Spicy asparagus (I didn't eat it but I hear it was a great spin to the traditional veggie) - Hot plate beef with onions (very peppery... not my fave) - Fish slices with snow peas/celery/carrots (delicious) - Complimentary dao fu fa (good sweet tofu with a ginger soup kick) Overall it was good. I left feeling full but my hair smelled a little oily. They could lighten up on the oil but most Chinese restaurants overkill on the oil so it wasn't a surprise. I would go back!

Yelp
This was our third visit to Yangtze and we weren't disappointed at all. We were visiting family for the holidays and the six of us went there for dinner. We ordered the dinner for six. We had the Hot & Soup, Spring Rolls, Lemon Chicken, Thai Basil Beef, Shrimps with snow peas, Kulu Pork, Steamed Sea Bass in garlic sauce, Yangtze Fried Rice and cookies. Great meal. The staff was so friendly and helpful. They catered and assisted with our elderly mom. Changed our table to make her feel comfortable . We ordered takeout for other family members that weren't able to make it. We had leftovers for that same lucky family member. Thank you Yangtze staff

Yelp
I came to Yangtze with a party of 10 or so and we had a large table that fit us all comfortably. Wait - there was a small group of people waiting for tables on the weekend. Service - was dodgy which is expected at these kinds of places. I had to ask several times for water. Food - mediocre dim sum food that fills you up, but leaves you longing for more. A few examples: pork buns are hard to mess up, but the filling wasn't that good and the bread part did not taste fresh or steamed enough. The chicken feet were also not cooked long enough and were very tough with little flavor. What I will say was good, however, was the tripe. Tripe is always a winner in my book! Yangzte is a decent place for dim sum if you're in a large group as they have quite a bit of space and many tables. Decor is modern and not so "Asian" and there is lots of natural lighting.

Yelp
The decor is old and the place is really dimly lit which makes it look dirty and old. The food is mediocre compared to what we have in Toronto, and the service is very poor. The waitresses are rushed and inattentive and the lady manager is very arrogant and rude and doesn't care about the well-being of her customers at all!! Do not waste your money here!!

Yelp
Went to Ottawa during Winterlude and found this place is Ottawa's Chinatown area. This place was very busy which is a good sign. I wasn't expecting anything but average chinese food. This place named after the Yangtze river took my taste buds on a trip through the core of chinese cuisine...the dim sum is especially memorable and the Shanghai noodles ....Awesome! Cant wait to get back to Yangtze for some of those steamed pork dumplings!

Yelp
Great Chinese food at a reasonable price. It also can accommodate lots of people, so it's a good place if you have a large party.

Yelp
Considering the good reviews, I can only think that I just chose the bad dishes. Fried rice? Egg plant? I cannot understand how come those basic dishes could be that bad. Dim sum dishes were okay but not great. The manager had a very inappropriate and rude attitude. She said it was the way they cooked the dishes. The only good thing here was their tea.

Yelp
Best Chinese good in Ottawa! This is my regular go to for Chinese even though it's all the way in China town. It's usually busy and parking can be hard but it's so worth it. If you like beef short ribs I highly recommend both the salt and pepper and the black bean sauce ones. So delish! Their hot and sour soup is also notable! So many great items! Also, includes dim sum! Enjoy!

Yelp
The GOAT. When my family and I come here we usually get the "Dinner for six". From my multiple experiences here the food is always great as well as the service. There can be at times where the service is lacking but that is typically due to their busyness.
