I stopped here on my trip along the coast because of the positive reviews, but I must admit my expectations were still low because of how affordable it was. Well, the reviews were correct (and, yes, it is very affordable). The room was immaculate, service was genuine and friendly (Hi, Frank), the atmosphere was quiet, and, as a surprise bonus, the motel is located directly across the street and a very short walk from a real, local lobster pound. Do yourself a favor, and do not assume that this place is a dive because it is not part of a chain and because it is affordable.

We usually stay in larger units but we have no complaints about our stay here. Each room has convenient amenities like a small fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Great for leftovers and caffeine to start the day. The king size bed was just firm enough and the many pillows soft enough, we slept really well. It is right on Rte 1 but road noise was not an issue. Everything exceptionally clean.

Visiting family in the Belfast area and booked a room at the Yankee Clipper for one night. Perfect for what we needed, very clean, comfortable beds, nice shower and a fridge/microwave to make life easier. Will definitely stay here again when back in the area.

We were on a bucket-list 14 Lobster Shack tour of the coast of Maine. We stayed in 4 different hotels, this was by far the best and is the only one I listed as must return. Updated modern accommodations, spacious room, very comfortable and close to Young's Lobster Pound where we had twin lobsters for breakfast.

A perfect welcoming room and bed to rest my weary head. Staff at the Yankee Clipper were awesome to accomodate a last minute check in like me. The renovated rooms are as good as if not better than a hotel. Will definitely stay here again if in the area!

Google
Was perfect for what we needed! Friendly staff, comfortable beds, and hot showers all for a reasonable price. If we ever find ourselves back in this area, this is where we will stay.

It's clean and quiet and was right on Main highway we needed. Not queen beds though.. so a little tight but we'll worth it. Excellent price as well.

Google
Yankee Clipper pros: -Good base point to travel to several Maine destinations. -Fairly affordable (though we paid $60/night more by booking ahead rather than booking day of). cons: -NO WI-FI (the hotel says they do have wifi - it does not work. I could not even load my emails). -Cell phone dead zone - very little reception (we had at&t for one phone and t-mobile for the other). -Right off the highway. Traffic noise carried. As other reviewers also note, this motel is very close to town and should have access to basic necessities such as internet especially if they tell their guests that it is available.

Yelp
The staff is very nice, rooms are incredibly clean, beds are comfy, and they have everything you need (microwave, coffee maker, and mini fridge). Will definitely stay here again!

Yelp
Convenient location & staff was wonderful. Comfortable bed, clean room & it appeared to have been recently remodeled. Definitely would stay there again.

Yelp
Tried twice two reserve via their website and got an error message. So I had to call to reserve. Arrived at 1:15pm and found no one at the motel. Instead they have a note with a number to call. I called that number and was directed to another hotel where you may be able to collect your key. I opted to wait until after 3pm. The room keys are metal. I went out to my car leaving door wide open and it blew closed. My key was inside. I had to go to the office to get another key. I suppose if this happens before 3pm you would have to go to the other property as no one is on site. They really should have someone one site at all times for safety, assistance etc. Older motel though rooms have been remodeled. I liked that they do not have rugs. Hotel is close to US 1 and so you can here all the vehicles going by all night. Thankfully, the traffic dropped of during the night. Cheap uncomfortable pillows and linens. Cable tv didn't work. It turns out someone unplugged the cable cord in the back. Remote hardly worked and probably needed new batteries.

Yelp
I rarely stay in motels and many of those experiences have been less than pleasant. Yankee Clipper is an exception. The rooms are impeccably clean and upgraded. The furniture and flooring was similar to what you find in recently updated hotels. I had a small dog and the fee was only $20 and they did not hassle me or have me sign a waiver. The housekeeping staff were very pleasant. The hotel is not quite in Belfast, but I did not see any options closer into town. This is worth every dollar.

Yelp
I've traveled a lot and I have stayed at a lot of hotels. This hotel is shockingly CLEAN. I've never stayed in a cleaner room. I give it 4 stars because the bed was very uncomfortable. Other than that it's perfect,

Yelp
Coffee is the worst I have ever had. Worse than the instant coffee swill that I drank as a teenager before I knew better. Ditch this crap. It is better to have none than this.

Yelp
What an incredible and wonderful little motel! If you are visiting the Belfast area by all means stay here...you will not be disappointed. We were on a cross country drive and we had made reservations at the Yankee Clipper. As with all plans, they changed and we had to see if we could change our reservation (in the middle of August!). Call and spoke to Frank who could not have been nicer, changed our plans and had a wonderful time. Like others have said, small, exceptionally clean, great room amenities and very comfortable. We had our small dog with us and they were great about that. Close to everything you wanted to see. We stayed in many hotels on our 3 week journey and hands down this was the very best motel/hotel we stayed at. Bravo Yankee Clipper! You are the best!!!

Yelp
This is a perfect motel: old style and completely refurbished. I recently stayed here with a two dogs. The room had a brand new king bed, new appliances (small fridge, microwave, coffee maker), and remodeled bathroom. The grassy area in the back was great to walk my dogs, and the room was very quiet while still being on highway 1. And directly across the street from Young's Lobster Pound! Very pleasant staff too.

Yelp
Love this place! After the nasty room we had the night before we had tears of gratitude at the cleanliness of the room. White bedspreads that are actually washed after every customer! A true gem and one that has earned my repeat business!

Debbi S.

Yelp
Stayed for a holiday weekend. Rooms are clean and I love there is no carpet. Beds and pillows are comfortable. Water in shower was hot first thing in the morning. Had a microwave and small fridge. Rooms were also quiet despite it being on a busy road. Only heard a motorcycle starting up out front one morning. No traffic noises and no neighbor noises at all. The motel is nicely located on route 1, which allows good access to other towns and sites up and down the coast. Staff was friendly and attentive I would stay here again!

Yelp
We had a fantastic stay in our weekend trip to Belfast. Rooms are light, spacious, airy, modern, with all the amenities at such a great price!

Cathy C.

Yelp
Great find for a motel! Remodeled, clean, NO carpet, great shower. Personnel very helpful. Enjoyed the coffee - YEAH - real creamers, not that powdered stuff - 10 points for just this! Park outside your door. Already recommended this to a friend heading that way! Also, go to the Young's Lobster Pound across the street - take your own drinks (beer & wine).

Marcia T.

Yelp
Spacious room, great beds with firm mattresses (we hate soft beds!), good rate (though no one asked us about discounts; will have to ask). We like the hardwood floors! Wifi works. I like the little "nook" with mini fridge, microwave, counter, and single-serve brewer. Creamer provided. A roll of paper towels - who provides those? Nice little touches!

Bonnie B.

Yelp
Absolutely adorable little motel. Clean and seems newly renovated. Great price! My BF booked this last minute and showed up late. The nice desk guy stuck around later than usual to meet us with the key to the room. Be aware that it's a local motel and thus the desk is now 24 hours. Also was unaware of the checkout time and they knocked on our door but didn't rush us at all. Was very happy with our stay overall!

Sue Ann O.

Yelp
This is a relatively new property with laminate flooring and all new furnishings. It was exceptionally clean. Manager/owner was particularly helpful. Location is great, though not water front, walking distance to the walk bridge to the downtown area across the water where there are lots of shops, restaurants, and pubs. There are also a couple of restaurants near the motel. We stayed only one night, but it was very impressive. I would stay here again and definitely recommend to a friend!

Yelp
Tired after a long day in Acadia/Bar Harbor my husband and I needed to stop and get some shut eye. Driving along Rte. 1 south from Bar Harbor, ME there are many roadside motels. We did a few drive-by's and continued on. Its hard to know what you'll find and its really a roll of the dice. Thankfully my husband and I took other Yelper's advice and stopped at Yankee Clipper in Belfast, ME. We were so happy we did. This place was totally renovated recently, is super clean, and nicely decorated - no dark wood paneling here! The front desk agent, Luke, asked if we had AAA or other discounts that he could apply to our rate. Professional and friendly employees, nicely appointed rooms, free Wi-Fi and reasonable prices. This is a great choice along Rte. 1. I highly recommend it!

Yelp
We toured coastal Maine this last week and stayed at this motel one of the nights. We had room 26. It was fully updated and super clean. The room was very spacious with a kitchenette. Also provided enough coffee packets in the room for both my husband and I to have two cups each. I highly recommend this motel.

Ellen R.

Yelp
This motel has been completely redone. Everything is new! Bed and pillows were wonderful. Nancy at the front desk was friendly and efficient. We would stay again when in the area. Location is directly on the highway but the Sunday night we were there we could not hear any traffic.

Jane G.

Yelp
CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN. Nicely renovated rooms, beautiful update. Just a minute away from Young's Lobster Pound.

Lawrence G.

Yelp
Everyone associated with this place is super nice. We come to Maine once a year to visit my dad and have stayed here ever since they bought and renovated it. It is the cleanest place you are ever going to find, that is why my wife loves it. It is clean as a whistle. Perfect for a visit to Belfast. Right in the middle everything on this side of the bridge. Right across from the best and least expensive Lobster at Young's Lobster Pound. Can't say enough good things about this place.

Nancy E.

Yelp
This motel was a great surprise, best room of our whole trip in Maine. It was remodeled about 2 yrs. ago. No carpet, nice hardwood floors, great king bed, single coffees with real half & half! The bathroom was nice, everything spotless clean. Across the street is the Young's Lobster Pound which we tried & that was great. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to everyone.

Lindsay H.

Yelp
When Fireside took over Comfort Inn and prices increased to over $100 per night, I decided to check this place out. I hadn't stayed at Yankee Clipper for years. The place has been totally renovated and is amazing. It's clean, comfortable, affordable.

J H.

Yelp
Called to see if there were any rooms available. Luke was nice enough to ask if he could apply any discounts, without us having to ask. Price was very reasonable. They have laundry on site and can provide change, detergent and softener. Provided local restaurant and pub recommendations. Rooms are spacious, nicely decorated, and spotless. Everything was remodeled 1 1/2 years ago-it looks brand new. Like the laminate floors vs. carpet. Coffee pot brews single cups. And real half and half in the room! Nice touch. We've stayed in different hotels the last week, and this one is the best by far. Little gem of a place!

Karen S.

Yelp
You always wonder when you book online if a medium priced motel will be worth it. We were extremely pleased with the Yankee Clipper! The room was large, the beds were great and the bathroom new and spotless. We highly recommend staying here and we would've definitely book this motel again!

Yelp
I stayed in this motel several times over the last few months of 2014 while ealing with my mother's estate. Some of my stays were for a week or more at a time. I have also stayed at another nearby hotel and this place is far and above in all areas. The motel was recently renovated, so it does not have that "overused" hotel room feel at all. The wood floors are great for people like me with allergies. The beds are comfortable, the bathrooms are spotless, and the rooms are spacious. One of the great things about this motel, is that the wood floors are heated in the winter, which is when I was staying there. The motel staff are professional and friendly and you are provided with several handouts that list local places to eat, which I found to be helpful since I was staying for such a long time. The cleaning staff are also friendly and do a great job. I cannot say enough positive things about this place and I would make an extra effort to stay here again. It is affordable and definitely a big step up from the other hotels in the vicinity. The only thing that I can say that is regretful about this place is that there are not more rooms for more people to experience what a good affordable motel should be like.
