On the Grid : Yaroslava

"The “Yaroslava” bakery, is one of the oldest food spots in the city. Here you can buy very delicious pastry to go, or even enjoy it with a cup of cocoa or tea. There is also a cafe serving Ukrainian food and the restaurant in the basement. The interior is decorated in old slavic style - wooden tables and forged chairs. There’s also a warrior in authentic armor standing by the entrance. The walls are painted with Kyiv’s most interesting sights. The bakery’s assortment is wide: pastry with meat, cheese, liver, potatoes, cabbage, apple, cherry, blueberry, etc. A cinnamon bun is a must-try." - Zajno

A true Kyiv classic. Yaroslava has that warm, old-school charm you can’t fake — the kind of place where you instantly feel at home. The food is delicious, homemade, comforting, and served in generous portions. The atmosphere is cozy, with beautiful windows and a calm vibe that makes you want to stay longer than planned. Service is kind, fast, and welcoming. If you want authentic Ukrainian comfort food in a relaxed, friendly setting, this is one of the best spots in the city. Highly recommended.

A legendary place in Kiev. It started its work in the post-World War II era, in 1947. Since then, this cafe has not closed, nor has it changed its name or specialization. Here the dishes are cooked in a homemade style, without frozen convenience foods. Prices are low, dishes are very tasty and of high quality. The staff is friendly and good-natured. The uniforms of the staff every day change in different styles from the Great Rus' era to the 19th century ! I highly recommend this place, it can be called a museum of Ukrainian food of the last 100 years! Varenyky with meat is a masterpiece!

The food is good (nothing extraordinary) w reasonable prices, but the service leaves MUCH to be desired, as I work in hospitality sphere as well. When I entered this restaurant, and passed a couple of servers, no one said "Good afternoon" or smiled at least (all of the servers have facial expression like they've worked 24/7 w no rest). No one approached my table within 15 min, so I had to approach counter to take menu myself. I ordered salmon w mashed potato, Exotic salad, dogrose drink and pancakes w fruit and honey. First three options were quite good, but I had to wait 25 min, even tho just 6 tables were occupied. As for pancakes, well, I didnt have the opportunity to taste them cuz after waiting for 1 hour it turned out the order wasn't even placed. And their reply was: "Sorry, do u have cash instead of card"? R u being fr? I dont demand show w firework, but a bare minimum while being served. Hopefully, u get better at doing ur job.

My favorite place ever to eat pirojki ! I've been going there for almost 25 years now and the quality hasn't changed : the pirojkis are warm, coming out of the oven (especially around 9 am/10 am), everything is fresh and tasty, the dough is just like in the traditional recipe ! I highly recommend the Cinnamon roll, the poppy seed pirojki, cherry pirojki, raspberry pirojki and also the tvarog one (sweet cottage cheese), which are my favorites ! You can also have some Kompot drink which is delicious ! Moreover, the restaurant is just lovely and they have a terrace in summer !

A great selection of pies. Visiting this place with my tour guests during our Awesome Kyiv tour and Kyiv Backyards tour - they all absolutely love it. Unfortunately the prices ate getting higher.
