Yatagala RajaMaha Viharaya

A 2000 year old Buddhist site, where it is believed a sapling from the original bodhi tree was planted. The frescoes inside the main temple are incredible - they narrate the story of the life of the Buddha. There are also a lot of beautiful boulders around the area. Definitely worth a visit. Have to climb a few stairs to get to the top - as someone who hates climbing stairs, I found this not hard, and I recommend visiting for the quiet meditative feelings inside the temple complex.

Great place to visit to see historical background of Sri lanka with just few kilometers away from Galle town. Temple is easy to find on the map. There’s bit of stairs to climb to reach the historical cave temple. It’s a very calm and peaceful place there to worship and look around. Sad to see the paintings are not restored properly but theres a lot of paintings are in good condition as well. The temple has the tallest bronze Buddha statue found in sri lanka.

A beautiful and intimate temple that deserves a spot on any itinerary. The interior is decorated with wonderfully preserved paintings, each carrying clear symbolic messages. It’s one of the best-maintained and most peaceful temples I’ve visited — ideal for exploring at your own pace, without tourist crowds

Best temple so far!! The rocks are impressive and the locals are so nice. You don’t have to pay anything. Really recommend it for a quick vist.

Impressive. Tickets are already 1,000 rupees per person. Definitely worth a visit — they even gave us a tour and told us about the temple.

Very peaceful. In a wooded, rocky area without many tourists. It's a 2500 year old temple. Beautiful.

Not to many steps up to the temple and well worth a visit. Cist 500 Rupees oer person to enter tge temple. Cafe was closed as this as the low season.
