I grew up in Kenora and I remember when the Chip Truck was really a truck. The owner would drive it home and back every night. He filled up each night at the gas station I worked at as a teenager.
In those days, you not only filled up the gas but checked the oil and fluids and tire pressure. The Chip Truck guy always tipped me with a big bag of French fries, like a big paper grocery bag-sized bag of fries.
I was really surprised that they still seem to continue the tradition of never replacing the fryer oil, just topping it off.
That's why they're so dark and stormy.
The best French fries in Canada, hands down, and you have to have them with salt and vinegar. There's no ketchup or gravy or even pepper so don't ask.
Just enjoy them.
