On the Grid : Yellow Belly

"A friend told me about Yellow Belly recently and I’m glad they did. A smaller restaurant, in a cozy, rustic space, a good go to when you’re just wanting an easy night out. The full name of the restaurant is Yellow Belly Tap Sucker Bar and Restaurant, which is a word play on a real bird named the Yellow Belly Sap Sucker, which can be found adorning their menu and other restaurant elements. Try the baked mac and cheese to start, made with gruyere, jack, parmesan and sharp cheddar, hearty and delicious." - Amanda Proudfit

Love this place! Excellent selection of beers on tap. Delicious craft burgers and sides. Friendly, welcoming staff. Favorite hang out spot for locals. Nice outdoor back patio, great for dogs!

Traffic mitigation strategies. What are some of yours? One of mine is just temporarily surrendering, pulling off the stinking freeway 😡, and finding literally anything else to do for a spell. Therefore, all that I really asked of Yellow Belly was to be my sanity break from that parking lot formerly known as U.S. Highway 101. Well they ended up being far more than that! Their “Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich” was crispy and delicious! Although I was satisfied with the portion I was provided, I seriously wanted another one. Not because I was left wanting, but because I just wanted that dining experience to continue. Their “Fig + Goat + Bacon Burger” was also outstanding. The figs and goat cheese provided a sweet and savory combo that matched the saltiness of the bacon wonderfully. Their dining environment is on the minimalist side of the spectrum, but they offer fairly substantial outdoor dining opportunities. There is absolutely no way that I could fail to mention the typewriter found in the restroom (multitasking anyone?). That is just the right about of quirkiness to appeal to me and engage my imagination. (And for those who may be wondering, that is NOT where this post was written. 😉) I really enjoyed the 70’s Funk and Soul they were dishing out during our visit. 🎷🎶 The next time I’m visiting Santa Barbara it won’t take another California traffic jam to get me in here. And that’s…Henry’s Take. #santabarbaradinner

Google
3rd stop on our Santa Barbara Lagerville trip, Carms and I hit up Yellow Belly craft house. Order at the Bar or have a seat and enjoy a lovely selection of fine craft beers and local wine. They have pizzas, salads, wings, and vegan/vegetarian options. Atmosphere is cozy and on point service. Prices are reasonable! So far, so good! We're batting 1000%

Google
Great pizza and a good selection of beers. The staff are great and the inside has a comfortable vibe. Sit out back to take in the sunshine.

Google
Always pleasantly surprised to find Buffalo cauliflower on a menu. This was a huge, tasty portion. I did find the mac and cheese to be a smaller portion for the price and would have liked some other protein addition options, hence the 4 stars. Chicken sandwich was solid, per my compadre.

Steven Anderson

Google
It's a small place so it gets packed very fast. The biggest flaw would be the staff. They do seem to ignore you and are way under staffed. I also never received the appitizer I ordered. The chicken sandwich was good. Nothing impressive but was good. The pizza was so thin and greasy I could not finish more than two slices. I was excited because the reviews seemed pretty good.

Google
Quaint and cozy➿ Staff enjoys other staff company.🙋🏻‍♂️🙋🏻‍♀️ Staff is super cool🕺🏼 There might be locals only parking in back🚙 Elsewise parking is in the street🚗 Breakfast menu is yummy🤤 Proportion size is appropriate and not grotesquely large👍🏻 Menu is chic and well done in a modern culinary fashion. ⛾ The design theme is well done Bohemian hodgepodge. 🔘 Good beers on tap and ciders🍻 Had a good time here would take Mom and Dad🧓🏼👵🏻 Great al fresco dining experience in front or back.🏖 Great place for date night👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩 Clean and well organized. 🚾 Great tea selection 🍵

Google
This is a great place off the main streets of Santa Barbra. We came for the pizza and the cookie skillet and were not let down at all. Huge selection of pizzas and patio for the puppy!

Yelp
This restaurant was great! We thoroughly enjoyed our food and the ambiance. They have an inside seating area and an outdoor patio. We sat inside. You come in and put in your order then sit down with your order number and they bring the food out to you. The First item that we ordered was the mushroom sausage pizza. As you can see from the picture, it has arugula and Parmesan on top. The mushrooms must be sautéed prior to adding to the pizza in some type of magical butter sauce because they were so delicious and tasted great with the chicken sausage Altogether, this was an amazing pizza that me and my kiddo appreciated. The next item we got was the mac & cheese, which was very solid in flavor and cheesiness. It had a great taste and wasn't overly cheesy. They also gave a pretty good size that fit in a medium size bowl. The last item we ordered was the weekly special which was a flat iron steak with mashed potatoes and broccolini. The steak wasn't seasoned too much, but it was good enough to satisfy my steak craving. Potatoes however were very delicious and the gravy they were served with was amazing. They had about 12 or more beers on tap ranging from lagers, ales a kombucha, hazy IPA, IPAs, etc. I didn't get to try any, but maybe next time. Overall, the service was great and the servers were attentive and kind and made it us. Feel welcome to be in the restaurant. I would definitely visit this place again and order the pizza and would love to try some of their other items.

Yelp
Obnoxious drunk people I ordered online and there was a female drunk customer that was talking so loud basically screaming while talking to the left of me near the register in the corner. I can't even hear that good and she was talking so loud it hurt my ears Food was okay but not worth the obnoxious atmosphere

Yelp
Yellow belly has many great options to choose from but have you ever just wanted to get some great dessert with friends? Well, look no further Yellow belly's laid back setting and incredible cast iron cookie are where you want to go! My friends and I love coming here for a fun dessert! The cast iron cookie is among the best we've ever had, the cookie itself is incredible then you add the fact that the chocolate is warm & gooey plus you add two scoops of your fav McConnell's classics that perfectly balances the warmth of the cookie - you're guaranteed to have a party in your mouth!

Yelp
We love everything about this place. The food is delicious, including great weekly specials. The rotating beer menu is stellar. The owners and the people who work there are friendly and helpful. The pub-like atmosphere is both upbeat and relaxing. Outdoor spaces in front and back have heaters.

Yelp
5 stars for pliny on tap alone. Not to mention the exceptional brussels sprouts, fries, ranch, and chicken sando. Awesome find

Yelp
Best burger I think I've ever had! It's a very small space with limited seating. You order at the bar and try to grab a table. The table I sat at had some brown liquid that I think was sofa, but otherwise it is a clean establishment. The waiters brought our food to the table which was appreciated. And in a very timely manner despite being very busy. The staff were all very nice as well. I got the mushroom burger and WOW. It was sooo juicy. The veg was very fresh as well!! And the French fries were really crispy and very good. Will definitely come back next time I'm in the area

Yelp
Finally tried Yellow Belly after driving by it for years. Such a chill relaxed atmosphere. Lucky I tried it when it wasn't busy. There basic burger and fries were delicious and so was the brew. Will try it again. :)

Yelp
Went here for SBIndy Burger week only to find out they won't take any customizations on their featured burger :-( All I wanted was no bun and the featured burger came with arugula so they could have easily but the burger down on a bed of that. But no. Ordered the mighty mushroom which was just ok. Could of used more sautéed mushrooms and more cheese. The place was packed though so clearly they probably had many happy customers for Burger Week.

Yelp
Great times and great vibes whenever visiting Yellow Belly. Great beers on tap as well canned or bottled varieties! I love their backyard patio area on a weekend while enjoying some of their brunch options over a beer. Their Pizza and Burger game is on point as well! A great place to enjoy some happy hour at or enjoy the weekend with!

Paige L.

Yelp
We came around 6pm on a Wednesday and sat on the front patio, the flowers, lights, and music were very nice. Drinks came out immediately and food was out within 15 minutes, the fig, goat & bacon burger was our favorite and the mushroom sausage pizza was delicious. Highly recommend coming here!

Yelp
Perfection defined! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Kudos to the chef and owners and staff!

Yelp
Literally the worst restaurant in SB the food has no flavor literally has no taste they don't own up to their menu plus the cashier was rude. On top of that it's expensive as hell for what they serve I can get a better burger or sandwich at a gas station than this place. DONT COME HERE SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! The food is disgusting.

Yelp
Would have been a 5 because the $10 burger week burger was great but it did take FOREVER to get our food. they closed down more than half an hour early and they refused to honor the Twism app offer of buy one get one free beer for Pliny the elder even though I saw it done earlier in the day. Apparently it was a "mistake" but the guy who had his beer deal honored was a white guy while I'm Hispanic so not sure if that had anything to do with it . So because of that asked to taste some of the other IPA's as I'm unfamiliar with them and waitress snapped back "we don't do flights". The burger deal is only valid until March 20 so come in and order that a few hours before they close and a few hours before you're hungry as it will take a while to get your meal.

Yelp
Ordered the Mighty mushroom burger and a Roy Rogers to drink. I have never seen a Roy Rogers drink on the menu and was so excited to try it. Good was great. Fun place to try. Very lively place. Friendly people and food came out fast. Overall will likely be back

Yelp
We came here for burger week so we ordered their $7 burger, beer battered onion rings and garlic parmesan fries. The burger was too sweet for my likings so it was hard for me to eat. Their fries were incredibly delicious. They put a generous amount of garlic and good amount of parm. Wife is more into beer battered onion rings, so I didn't really eat them until the next day. I will say their garlic parmesan fries is really good. And my wife found a couple slice garlic pieces in the dipping sauces. If you love garlic you're going to love the garlic parm fries!

Yelp
I pass this daily on my way to work and always wanted to try it out and I finally did. So glad I did! The spicy fried chicken sandwich was so delicious! The crispy flakey breading was just right. There was a lot of flavor with every bite and definitely not too spicy. The side salad with the vinaigrette was also delicious. I'll definitely be coming back.

Yelp
We decided to try out Yellow Belly this weekend and we are glad we did. Plenty of outdoor seating was available, so we felt super comfortable. They have a good variety of items on the menu. Think elevated comfort food! They also have a great beer and wine selection. If you have been wanting to try Pliney the Elder this is your new favorite spot! We both ended up ordering the Yellow Belly burger. Burger was juicy and well seasoned. The burger came on a huge brioche bun with caramelized onions. Very good! We will go back again and try more items on the menu! Staff was also very friendly! :)

Tabitha E.

Yelp
Northwest pizza was absolutely delicious. My partner got the Yellow Belly burger and loved it as well. Cute ambiance and looks great for kids as they had a little play section!
google avatar

Heidi P.

Yelp
Good food and brews, they have cider and seltzer options too! Great little mom n pop vibe with a nice outside patio. We had Burgers and fries/onion rings, chicken wings and the Brussels sprouts. All was delicious!
google avatar

Sam H.

Yelp
The food is always great, I wish I could walk into the kitchen and just tip the cooks because there is 0 customer service, only place I know of where u pay a hundred dollars for food then get charged extra for 1 ranch. My toddler found a knife in the play area. The back patio is nice.
google avatar

Yelp
So goooooood !!!! All the details in the wing ! Cashier was nice give me a nice smile and the vibe inside is chill I love it
google avatar

Jennifer N.

Yelp
The atmosphere here was cozy and nice! Staff was friendly. Came here on a Wednesday night to have some dinner with friends. I got the ricotta pizza with chicken and a house salad. Pizza was flavorful and cheesy. The salad was good and a good sized portion. The Brussels sprouts were good too! Tasted a little bitter but they were ok.
google avatar

Zach C.

Yelp
Staff: Friendly and helpful. Ambience: Front patio is small with a few seats and feels relaxed despite being on a main-ish road. Inside is a pretty standard bar with a TV. The patio out back is very nice and relaxed. Dog friendly (outdoors). Food: We tried the brussels sprouts and chicken wings and both were great. I liked the added shallots to the brussels sprouts -- not something you normally see. Drink: Good beer selection.
google avatar

Yelp
Great local restaurant serving quality food. Ricotta pizza (add pepperoni), lemon pepper wings (bomb), and a great tasting burger. Fries are excellent. Thanks to Zach for the wonderful hospitality. will be back!

Yelp
Came with a friend on a Sunday @ 11:30 (peak brunch time) and there was NO WAIT! I was so shocked because I know how popular this place is! Also, the place itself is super cute! Super homey both inside and outside! They have both outdoor and indoor seating and even enough for groups of 6+ so I also liked that as well! I ordered the classic breakfast with a $6, yes, $6 mimosa and it was great! Food came out in about 10 minutes! I did not spend too much time here but I will be back because I would love to have other things on their menu!

Natalie D.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem! Super chill atmosphere. Very kind people. Great food! The pizza was yummy, the Buffalo cauliflower were scrumptious, but it is the balsamic Brussels sprouts that I will dream of! Highly recommend this spot!!

Yelp
First of all, the service is amazing. This is the first restaurant where 2 waitresses took care of our group getting our orders, checking on us, refilling our waters, checking in us, it's almost as if we had them to ourselves. The service matched the great happy hour food and the cozy decor. Here's the order: Garlic fries: a perfect amount of garlic was on there and the fries were crisp! Must order again! Onion rings: crisp rings with what seemed to be an aioli (not sure, but tasty) sauce Yellowbelly burger - get your grub on. Sonjuicy and filling you can share this with another person if you're not too hungry! White rascal beer- cold bottles poured here! All in all, a wonderful experience. This place fills up quick and it's a lively area to socialize at the bar! Thanks again for a great visit!

Yelp
My husband and I ate here last night. He got a Cesar salad and I got the kale and quinoa salad. The Caesar came in what I would call an unassembled fashion. The heads of Romaine weren't chopped, the chicken wasn't cut and the dressing was on the side. So my husband had to cut everything up himself and essentially make the salad at the table Odd.. my salad was alright but not enough dressing was provided especially for kale which is super tough if not massaged or dressed ahead of time. French fries were great. Beer was cold and tasty. Service was good and prompt. Ambiance was nice and mellow. We're visiting from out of town but don't think I'd recommend or go back since the food wasn't particularly memorable.
google avatar

Kelley C.

Yelp
We went for a small bite or something to share and thoroughly enjoyed the grilled cheese with blueberry compote (may be called something else) sandwiched in between the gooey cheese. Great crusty bread. Arugula salad came with. It's a casual place and no one is rushing you off so plenty of time to catch up and enjoy the casual ambiance. The service was quick a d efficient. Plan to go back!

Jason S.

Yelp
Made it just before they closed a little early, (call ahead on a quiet Monday night!) The food was fantaaastic. I had the brussel sprouts with bacon as well as the beet salad with slices of fried chicken. So. Damn. Good. The service was as sweet as the ambiance. Perfect fall evening with a glass of their house Syrah.

R J.

Yelp
A true neighborhood pub located in a great area of Santa Barbara. The relaxed/chill ambiance is comfortable and easy to enjoy. The food is better than most restaurants with attention paid to the quality of the ingredients. The prices are fair considering the quality of the product (food, service, ambiance, location) Yellow Belly offers.
google avatar

Vanessa D.

Yelp
Probably one of my favorite places to go for a casual date night with my husband! The pretzel is amazing and easy to share with two people (yes you can eat one on your own, no judgements). It comes with mustard and cheese dipping sauces. The onion rings are delicious and pairs well with the chipotle aioli dipping sauce. My hubby and i split the black and blue burger and substituted chicken. Ah-mazing!! The chicken was tender and the flavors were incredible! Highly recommend it. The place appears small on the inside but there is plenty of outside in the front and back
google avatar

Yelp
Good food, good beer. Casual environment. I enjoyed my dinner. Recommend for a casual meal with friends

Kayko C.

Yelp
I've been here twice and not sure there will be a 3rd visit. The first time I got the Mushroom Sausage pizza. It was quite oily and rich with all the cheese. It smelled great and tasted good, but I couldn't eat much. Too much cheese for me and I love cheese. If I order it again, I'll ask for less cheese. My boyfriend got the Fig & Goat & Bacon burger. He liked it. The 2nd visit we shared the Yellow Belly burger and the Wedge Salad. The burger was ok but the patty alone lacked flavor. The biggest disappointment was the Wedge Salad. It was a large iceberg lettuce wedge with the extras scooped around it and a knife stabbed into the wedge. I had to chop and mix the salad myself. The dressing was good and all the ingredients were fresh but it is pricey at $16 -iceberg lettuce (!) where I have to order at a counter, cut the salad myself, and bus my table afterwards. It probably took someone in the kitchen 30 seconds to put it all on the plate.

Katherine M.

Yelp
Yellow Belly is the best place to come for a chill drink and fantastic food. It has great outdoor seating, plenty of drink options, and everything I've gotten off of the menu has been incredible. I dream of their fig, goat, and bacon burger and their tomato basil soup. My favorite neighborhood spot!
google avatar

Anthony C.

Yelp
Super stoked on this local hotspot! Just moved in the neighborhood not too long ago and we have been visiting here at least once a week and we always leave happy. Great food at an affordable cost. We have tried almost everything on the menu and are always happy with our dishes! Amazing wings! We really like the lemon pepper wings. A very nice twist on original wings. Great ranch too!!

Connie C.

Yelp
Visited for the $10 burger week. Was great! They are also part of the Axxess app! Always good food & service.
google avatar

Dale D.

Yelp
100% satisfied with my experience here for brunch. They have a great reasonably priced menu including bottomless mimosas for $15 and beer bloody Mary's for $6.50! Ample outdoor seating on the front patio for that perfect brunch feel. I ordered the bleu cheese burger which came with country potatoes, they were just a little dry so I might do salad next time. My friend ordered the cornbread Benedict, interesting mixture but I don't think I'd order it for myself. I'd love to come back for happy hour and appetizers and to sit out on the back patio.
google avatar

Rob W.

Yelp
I wasn't going to post this but I must say when I received my pizza last night it was small and cardboard thin. I have eaten at many pizza places here in SB and this shit has to be the worst pizza. I spent 38.00 for garbage that is what I would have spend at Barbs pies a massive pizza with sourdough crust I would never recommend ordering pizza from this place Absolutely horible

Marsha S.

Yelp
The burgers are some of the best in Santa Barbara. No atmosphere and you have to place your order at the bar. Outside dining is good, but depends on the weather.
google avatar

Kylie C.

Yelp
I LOVE IT HERE!!! I can't wait to try the whole menu. I've gone for brunch a few times and dinner twice. The brunch menu is tiny but ALL quality. The other morning, I was really vacillating between the chicken and waffles and the Cornbread Benedict, and our SUPREME waiter recommended that I get the Benedict and ADD fried chicken!!! DREAM COMBO! This recommendation blew my mind and it was one of the most delicious breakfasts I've had in quite some time. Their $15 unlimited mimosa deal is unbeatable, although I haven't taken full advantage of that yet. Coffee is delicious and strong. Service is awesome. I'd go here for breakfast lunch and dinner if I was feeling insanely gluttonous. It's really good.

Harry E.

Yelp
Very eh. But I did Uber eats so can't fully say it was bad. But putting sogginess aside the flavors also weren't great.
google avatar

John T.

Yelp
Our family stopped in during our vacation. The place is small and has a wonderful neighborhood vibe. We started with some great beer. Their beer selection was eclectic and highlighted local breweries which was appreciated. I love trying local craft brews when I am on vacation. The family tried various dishes. The standout was the Fig Burger and the Chicken Sandwich.

Yelp
COVID-19 Review. Yellow Belly provided our last meal out on our two week road trip and it was a great way to end our trip. We came to meet some friends of ours that moved to Santa Barbara and they suggested eating here as they love coming. It was lunch and we were getting pretty hungry so arriving to Yellow Belly we were happy to be seated. At the time, we were allowed to sit outdoors on their patio which is small but worked perfectly. The inside of the restaurant looked really cozy which I would have liked if times were different. Maybe next time. I had the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich which wasn't the best one I've ever had, but pretty close. I really like this sandwich the few times I've had it. It just needs a bit more seasoning in the batter. I got it with a salad which was divine. The wife and kids enjoyed the food they got as well. The kiddos split a pizza. I don't remember what the wife got. Service was excellent. They were really great about our 3 kids even though they behaved fine, but were nice enough to give them their own table so that we could talk with our friends. The server was attentive and checked on us frequently. I'd totally eat here again. Great place!
google avatar

Andrea M.

Yelp
My sister and i found this place just walking around looking for someplace to have dinner. We were extremely happy to find this gem! The menu is small but thats not a bad thing. We ordered a bottle of champagne with our meal and sat outside. The staff was very nice and quick. I cant wait to come back.

Yelp
Now my favorite brunch spot in Santa Barbara. There are two great patios, they allow dogs, and have a bar. Oh and did I mention the food? Excellent. I personally am addicted to the agh sandwich, but I'm a sucker for a good sandie. Super fresh and totally delish food here with a great staff to boot.
google avatar

Anishka K.

Yelp
I'm officially addicted to Brussel Sprouts! I literally order them on a weekly from different restaurants! Yellow Belly outdid themselves! Absolutely amazing! The sautéed onions, and bacon were great additions. Their onion rings are killer! Even better the next day! My daughter had the tomato soup. She enjoyed it. This restaurant has my vote! I'd definitely recommend it!

Rachael K.

Yelp
The food here is AMAZING! Great beer selection too. Everyone in our group got something different and we were all raving about how yummy it was. Definitely recommend. We were visiting from out of town so we were grateful to find this little spot on Yelp.
