Are National Parks Closed During the Government Shutdown? | Condé Nast Traveler

"I noted that, during the shutdown, hotels, restaurants, and gift shops operated by Xanterra in Yellowstone will be fully accessible; more broadly, Yellowstone is expected to remain open like many national parks but with a skeleton NPS staff, closed visitor centers and some facilities, and only partially staffed emergency services." - Emily Pennington

Never has planning a trip been so easy and fun, Charlie is awesome! Yellowstone in the summer is amazing, but in the winter, on a snowmobile, nothing compares!

Possibly the best trip we've ever taken! Charlie was great. He made all the arrangements for our snowmobiling adventure, answered questions, gave us tips for our days in the park, etc. All we had to do was show up. We had the BEST time! Thanks Charlie for all your help! I don't think this will be our last snowmobiling trip!

I can't say enough about Charlie(Yellowstone Fun), and Three Bears. Charlie was incredible at helping us plan our snowmobile day for our annual Girls Trip, and even went so far as to help us map out the routes for us since we weren't going to use a guide. Every time I messaged him he called back or messaged back within a very short amount of time with all of the information we needed from clothes to wear , map and routes to take, etc. Three Bears were incredible in getting us ready to take the sleds out and gave us further intel on where to go as well. We had the most amazing time and will be back for certain. I will also say going just after they closed the park was ideal as we avoided the crowds and still were able to experience everything we wanted to do while in West Yellowstone.

My daughters and granddaughter joined me for this trip. We spent one day in the park and one day on the divide. It was absolutely beautiful! Got to see a wolf in the park, she even stopped and howled! I’ve been to Yellowstone 2 other times but this winter trip was gorgeous with much less traffic. Great guides and wonderful meals in this package. You will not be disappointed!!

This was my second trip to Yellowstone through Charlie and Yellowstone Fun. Again, Charlie and Yellowstone Fun exceeded my expectations. Generally when you do something a second time it's not quite as good. Not this trip. My group of 9 (Retired Firefighters) had an Outstanding time. From the moment we walked into 3 Bears Lodge, the staff, who are excellent, were fully prepared for our arrival. After check in we received our gear and we were set. The accommodations were good and the breakfast was Excellent. The restaurant staff are Excellent. Our prime rib dinner was also very good. We spent 2 days in the park. One day to Old Faithful and one day to Canyon. The third day we were outside the park and the groomed fire roads made for an awesome day. Those of you who are worried about being cold, look at the pictures I posted and you can see it was snowing pretty good. None of us were cold. The gear that is provided is amazing. Tour Guides: We had Paul again this year (highly recommend) as our guide and he was very knowledgeable and helpful. Finally, if you're on the fence about doing this don't hesitate you will not be disappointed. Contact Charlie through Yellowstone Fun you will not regret it.

We just returned to Texas from West Yellowstone Montana. We wanted to pass along a special thanks to Charlie at Yellowstone Fun for arranging an outstanding winter vacation experience for us. He arranged for us to ride on a Bombardier Snow Coach through Yellowstone park, a guided tour on snowmobiles through Yellowstone park, and a third day of snowmobiling outside of the park. He set up our lodging for us at Three Bear Lodge, and everyone was so polite, and the food was terrific. Our package included free breakfast every morning, coupons for the IMAX theater, discounts for shopping, and steak dinners on one of the nights. All of the winter weather gear, snowmobiles, snow coach, and even lunch on the snow coach was included in our package. We were within walking distance of the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center, and the IMAX theater. We found everyone very polite to deal with in West Yellowstone, and we plan on returning in the summer time to explore more of the park. The large snowfall was perfect for snow activities, and the park was unbelievably beautiful.

Such an incredibly fun weekend! We stayed 3 nights at the Three Bears Lodge and had one day of snowmobiling on the trails on our own and one day guided in the park. Charlie was great to talk to as I was so nervous about getting cold. The layers he told us to wear combined with the snowsuits etc they provide had us all warm and comfortable both days! Doug was a fun guide and we saw buffaloes, wolves, a super cute fox, geysers, mud pits, waterfalls, Old Faithful and more. The Wolf and Grizzly Discovery Center was neat to see on our way out of town. I recommend this trip 1000%! We also had a driver pick us up and drive us from the airport and drive us back which alleviated some stress for us and let us just enjoy the views on the drive. A truly amazing adventure-thank you Yellowstone Fun!

Yelp
When I first planned my vacation to Yellowstone National Park, I attempted to do it through the Yellowstone National Park Lodges website. I originally planned on staying inside the park in a cabin near the Old Faithful geyser. Everything was going according to plan until it was time for me to arrange my excursions. I wanted to visit a canyon in the park nicknamed "The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone" but all of their excursions to that location were booked months ahead of time. I really wanted to see it and in my despair felt like canceling my whole trip until the customer service rep recommended that I contact a company named Yellowstone Fun. I called Yellowstone Fun and talked to a down to earth guy named Charlie Thomas. I explained my situation and to say that he helped me out would be a major understatement. And yes, he had an available slot for the excursion to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone! Even though it was already September and my vacation was planned for December, he meticulously arranged everything except for my flight (which I'd already set up myself). He set up a package for me that when all was said and done cost me about $1028. I had to finish paying for everything by the end of October. Here's what my package included: 1) A shuttle to take me to West Yellowstone, MT from the airport in Bozeman, MT and back once my vacation was over: West Yellowstone is about 90 miles from Bozeman. The shuttle company is named Karst Stage. 2) Four-night lodging at Three Bear Motel in West Yellowstone along with a free breakfast each morning at the Three Bear Restaurant in the motel. He also gave me a coupon for one free prime-rib dinner at the restaurant. 3) A Yellowstone park pass that covered each of my trips into the park: You need to have a park pass whenever you enter Yellowstone National Park. 4) Snowcoach excursions for three separate tours into Yellowstone National Park: A company called Alpen Guides provided the snowcoaches and drivers. 5) A ticket to the IMAX Theatre in West Yellowstone Charlie Thomas sent me an email explaining in detail everything I paid for. The email also included printable maps of the town and the park. There were also recommendations on what to wear in order to stay warm and this humorous bit of advice: Never eat yellow snow where the buffalo have roamed. Everything seemed so easy and good to be true that I was skeptical at first and kept calling him before I caught my flight out there. I was so used to having to set up each part of my vacation by myself. But it all went according to plan and I didn't have to worry about a thing. I ended up being there from Sunday, 12/16/2018 - Thursday 12/20/2018. Charlie even told me about a hotel I could stay in near the airport since my flight wasn't scheduled to leave until the afternoon of 12/21/2018. That hotel was a separate entity and wasn't a part of the package he arranged but him recommending that hotel saved me from having to spend hours at the airport before my flight home. If you ever want to visit Yellowstone and do it in style, I recommend Yellowstone Fun. In addition to what I've told you about, you can also rent snowmobiles from them and ride that instead of the snowcoach. I'm rating Yellowstone Fun five stars. From the moment I talked to Charlie I knew I was in good hands. He answered all our groups questions and made it a truly seamless trip. Those of you who are worried about being cold, look at the picture I posted and you can see it was snowing pretty good. None of us were cold. The gear that is provided is amazing. I talked to one patron who rode the day before our group and I guess the wind was howling and they took a beating ( that is out of Yellowstone Fun's control). Tour Guides: We had Paul (in the photo) as our guide and he was very knowledgeable and helpful. He really helped me personally with how to ride the snowmobile. Don was our driver in the Snow Coach and he was Outstanding! His knowledge of the park is unbelievable. Finally, if you're on the fence about doing this don't hesitate you will not be disappointed. Yellowstone Fun is the way to go.

Yelp
Charlie helped plan our trip...all details included! This is the best place to find all the helpful hints and prevent hidden costs. He will talk to you, explain, answer questions, and send you extra literature via email. Can't wait for our January 2023 trip!
