It took me longer than usual to pick a hostel in Lisbon. All of my options looked fine. They were all highly rated, seemed clean, tastefully decorated, and had great amenities. I really wasn't sure which to choose, so I took to Facebook. From my buddies, I got 3 recommendations and Yes! Lisbon was one of them, already on my top 5 list.
It seemed like a sign, so I booked with them and took the metro system from the airport. The metro was super easy to navigate. I purchased a 24hr ticket which was perfect for my ride there and back. Not sure if buying two one-ways would have been cheaper, but I didn't know how much I would need to travel the city.
Thankfully most cool things are within walking distance from the hostel. Upon arriving, I was greeted by a lovely hostel staff member (all of them were amazing - Fabio probably was my favorite) who made me a Portuguese drink on the house after he saw how tired I was from traveling and carrying heavy luggage.
From there, I put my bags down and met a group of lovely people right from the beginning. The hostel guys convinced me to do the hostel dinner. It was cheap, seemed delicious, and would be better than eating alone at some overpriced restaurant, which was my original plan.
The food was amazing and came with an open bar for a few hours of sangria, wine, and beer! Needless to say, I filled up on rice and sangria. After the dinner, we all gathered for a cute speech and free shots.
The next day, I was pretty hungover and the bean bag chairs didn't do me any good (they were too comfortable). For 2€ you can get a filling breakfast, but note that pretty much everything is glutinous minus the eggs. There's also tea, coffee, and fruit included!
It was surprisingly hard for me to leave this hostel. Everyone there was so interesting and kind. I could probably stay for a week or two. Highly recommend! A+!
