The 6 Best Hostels in Hong Kong (Updated 2025)

"Centrally located just a couple blocks from a metro station, I found it basic but cozy with a nice common room and friendly staff; they run social events like pub crawls and dinners and provide a kitchen. They offer longer-stay rates and extras such as in-room desks, making it a solid no-frills choice for budget travelers." - Matthew Kepnes

This place is in a good location near exit C of Yau Ma Tai metro station. There are many shops and eating places nearby. I walked to several vegetarian restaurants (I can walk far). I ended up getting breakfast from the nearby bakery most days.Travel by bus or metro is convenient. It feels like a safe area, and as a female travelling alone I always felt safe. I spoke with reception several times during my 8 night stay and always found everyone to be polite and helpful, and all with good English. I had checked in at 9pm with no problems. The doorman sat in the foyer was friendly and directed me where to go as soon as he saw a case. I was in a private corner room and it was very quiet; the elevator was on one side and empty space on the other side so no noise from neighbouring rooms. The room has key card entry and I like how I never had to go to reception to get the card recharged as often happens at other places I have stayed. For Hong Kong this place is exceptionally good value for money, I would stay again. I have previously stayed in Chunking Mansions and this is a way, way better option for a budget traveller. I extended my stay twice during the 8 day stay thus to see all my comments about the room, read all 3 reviews. My comments are based on expectations of a budget hotel in Hong Kong where all I wanted was a cheap and convenient place to stay.

Very good, helpful and friendly service from the male reception staff. (I think he only works during the day shift.) The 2 lifts go to every floor and are convenient if carrying luggage. The room is clean and quite spacious for the 3 double bunk beds in a dormitory. As expected, need to bear with the snoring from fellow roommates. After 2 nights, my wife and I decided to change a double bed room which is cramped but comes with an ensuite bathroom. Central location close to the Yau Ma Tei MTR station and bus stop and also within walking distance to the various malls and to the Tsim Sha Tsui area. The night market and other eateries are also in the neighbourhood.

The is called a Youth Hostel, though if you are a more mature person looking for a cheap ensuite room to stay in , then this is the place for you. If you have booked a private room you will not be experiencing any type of hostel vibe if you do not wish and will not be disturbed by groups of backpackers. Apart from check in, you will get the elevator straight to your floor view it just as a cheap hotel. If you are a backpacker looking for a cheap and convenient place to stay , then this is for you. If you are the type of backpacker who is looking for the upbeat, energetic vibe, this is not one of those places…though there are posters up related to pub crawls, activities and tours. There is a small common area in the receptions area with a small kitchen corner, some books and games. Several reviews have commented on small beds: ordinary people live in very cramped conditions in HK and furniture sizes reflect this so beds are unlikely to be comfortable for tall people as budget accommodation is unlikely to pay extra to purchase atypical bed sizes.Hong Kong is always ranked within the top 2 of the cities with high cost of living. This is a very good bargain for Hong Kong. I stayed in a private ensuite room and in the past I have paid more for less, both in HK and elsewhere. I am going to San Franscisco soon and am paying the same price for less nights and a shared bathroom.

If you would pay me to stay - I would not.The Hotel was dirty and Pillows and Linen were stained. The backboard of the bed was full of white stains… I would not want my enemies to stay at this establishment. We checked out early as this was too much. No refund to date. Bad Management which reflects the property.

I booked a single room (17th floor), though could tell by the room set up, 2 pillows, 2 glasses, 2 cups, 2 towels, that it is considered a double room and suitable for 2 people. As a single person I found it a very comfortable place to hang out in and did not need to use common areas. It would be snug for 2 people. There was a table and chair, with convenient plug sockets that made working on my laptop easy. A kettle allowed me to boil my own water (buy your own bottles). Hooks and 2 hangers was sufficient for me to hang up key items, and the shelving was very useful. I did not watch the tv as not my thing. Air conditioner worked fine. The bed was comfortable with clean bedding. A tall person would not be able to stretch out; I am 5ft 3 inches and was fine, though if I were a few inches taller , then my feet would have touched the wall. The ensuite was clean. The shower has hot water, though the temperature is variable when using it. I would have liked to have had a floor mat on the tiled floors to avoid slipping, though then realised I could use the hand towel. Plenty of toilet roll, toiletries in containers fixed to the wall, a hairdryer, i.e. everything needed. I initially booked for 3 nights. I ended up extending for 1 night, then an additional 4 nights due to visa issues. I was happy here and felt no need to change where I was staying. I had got a deal online and paid on average HK$288 per night which is exceptionally good value for Hong Kong; in previous stays I have paid more for worse conditions. Given the high prices in HK and my previous experiences, I was expecting to pay double that price for a private, ensuite room …very happy and would stay here again.

I had a great experience at this hostel! The location was perfect—close to public transport, food spots, and local attractions. The dorms were clean, beds comfy with privacy curtains, and lockers provided. Bathrooms were regularly cleaned and had hot water. What really stood out was the friendly staff and social atmosphere. The common area was lively, Wi-Fi was fast, and there was a shared kitchen which helped save on meals.

Wow I’m traumatized by my staying there. The only reason I booked it is because I have 8 am flight and bus stop for the airport is nearby. I booked a mixed dorm for 8 and it’s very bad. There is crazy noisy ac which works like tractor just in front of my bed. I asked receptionist to change my room because it’s unbearable but they just changed my bed. Communication is poor they don’t speak English well. Everything is old. There is molds in toilet. Everything is dirty there is hair everywhere and dust. I’m disgusted by touching anything. Yes for 18$ per night you shouldn’t expect much but wow I wouldn’t stay here if someone would pay me. It’s the worst place I’ve ever stayed and I had to move almost immediately.

My stay at YesInn@YMT was extremely disappointing. I booked a standard double room for two nights, but the air conditioner was malfunctioning, turning on and off, with water dripping from it. The remote control didn’t work and seemed mismatched to the room. Despite reporting the issue to the receptionist, who acknowledged the problem and promised a fan, no fan was provided. With no other rooms available, I had to book another hotel at midnight, costing nearly the same as my two-night stay at YesInn. The next day, I returned to seek a resolution. Another receptionist confirmed the air-con issue and promised to consult management. After an hour, I was reassigned to an upgraded room on the 17th floor as compensation, but they still denied reimbursement for the previous night’s hotel. To add to the frustration, they claimed the original air-con was “working fine,” contradicting the earlier acknowledgment of the issue. On top of poor management and lack of accountability, the room was filthy—dusty under the bed and with a poorly cleaned toilet. Overall, it was an unpleasant and disappointing experience.
