Big Sky, Montana, Is Built for Adventure Travelers Who Also Love Luxury — How to Visit

"A long-running lunchtime fixture at the base of the mountain known for simple, satisfying hot dogs, Montana-made ice cream, and draft beer; a local favorite recommendation is the 'Sweaty Lefty,' a loaded hot dog topped with zesty mayo, shredded cheddar, and bacon." - Brad Japhe Brad Japhe Brad Japhe is a journalist specializing in food, beverage, and travel. No matter what the weather is like outside, the vibes are always high at yeti dogs! Every time I come in here, the staff is always having a good time and ready to serve up some delicious hotdogs. Always makes my day- even when it hails in the middle of June. Highly recommend if you need a bite to eat on the mountain.

Saahil P.

Google
This is a cute little place up at the Big Sky Mountain Village. The vibe is super hipster and very fun. Super limited seating on a crowded day. They only have 3 tables. The sodas from the fountain were flat and when we let them know the only alternative they offered was to buy a can of soda which I would have expected to be free since the machine was flat and we already paid for that. That's the only reason it's not 5 stars since the dogs were good.

Google
I'm from ND, but every year I come out here to Big Sky, and I look forward to a Yeti Dog- I do love that Lifty- and they are yet to disappoint. Highly recommend to any sane person who likes good food!!!

Matthew W.

Google
We were there on the last day of the season, and unfortunately they were out of pretty much everything.... But what I ate was delicious.

Teagan T.

Google
What a great snack on the mountain! Never thought a hot dog would taste so good. They also have beer and energy drinks, which was essential to stay motivated to snowboard. Perfect place to get a quick lunch and get back on the mountain. I highly recommend the Lifty.

Tony T.

Google
Not worth the $11.60 I paid for 1 tiny little dog! Bring your own 😉

Google
A nice small and fast hotdog shop. Probably the cheapest meal option on the mountain, but it's obviously not super cheap. Only outdoor seating. The dogs are classic beef franks and they don't skimp out on toppings. A bit sloppy and difficult to eat, but the taste is great.

Google
This was a great find for a quick bite to eat! We did not stay at Big Sky but was nice to walk around and check out stores and ski lifts while picking up a hot dog at Yeti. Alot of fun family activities.

Yelp
A great hot dog located at the Big Sky Resort. The house sauce was great and the service was quick. More of a to-go service makes it a great option for a break from the slopes. While they close in the afternoon, make sure to stop by the cute hot dog shop during lunch! Fairly priced, too.
google avatar

Yelp
Best bang for your buck meal at Big Sky Resort. The Coney Dog is the perfect meal after a long day on the slopes!

Yelp
If you like to buy and boil the cheapest hotdogs your supermarket sells, you may like a Yeti dog. Yeti dogs tasted like a skinless tube of warm baloney on a soggy roll. The girl serving the hotdogs also had an attitude for some reason. Absolutely not worth the price of $20 for two hotdogs.
google avatar

Stewart E.

Yelp
We had a lovely run in with one of the owners - she was so nice! The dogs were tasty but for the price, expected a little more. Like maybe a bigger hot dog (Costco size)? I know it's ski resort prices but still $11 for a hot dog is a lot. Would love a pickle on the side or something to make it feel worth the money.
google avatar

Yelp
Thank heaven for Yeti Dogs! The LAST place on the mountain that hasn't changed to a "premium, up-scale fine-dining experience" after COVID! They bring it, it's good, it's hot, and wrapped and bagged to travel. You can rag on the price, but know that this is still the cheapest hot meal anywhere. Unless you're getting busy in your own kitchen or splitting a pizza eight ways, this is where it's at. Chili with Fritos and onions all the way.
google avatar

Miles R.

Yelp
Over priced sub par hotdogs, the Bigsky town center location is probably the worst lunch spot out of all the options. If you're really craving a hot dog you can do what they do there at home for a quarter of the price.

Kara B.

Yelp
Cara Marie slaying my hot dog needs in the meadow!!! Amazing!! So happy to have y'all in the hood!

John B.

Yelp
You have the worst business model ever, try making a really good chili cheese dog. Homemade chili or maybe even hot links. Other wise close shop. Hot dog with Fritos please.. lame
google avatar

Juan L.

Yelp
I thought the hotdogs would be something special like they'd have seasoning inside or cheese or just something but they're just regular plain boiled hotdogs with sauce and toppings. The hotdogs aren't even a good size nor do they have any real flavor, costco hotdogs taste so much better and are much bigger. The toppings themselves aren't even anything special. If these were priced at $4-5 I wouldn't be upset, but they're $9-10 each for what tastes like something that was made by a high school aged pothead neglected by their parents who had to scrape up some food for their 2AM munchies on a Tuesday. This place is a disappointment. Spend your money elsewhere.
google avatar

Gwen M.

Yelp
This place was so fun. While the menu was creative you can literally build whatever combination you want on your hot dog. The ladies were so excited to have visitors in their kitchen. We loved the vibe here. Kudos and thanks for the awesome hospitality.
google avatar

Brock B.

Yelp
one star. service was so slow. took forever to get inside. cashiers were so slow to take our order then practically turtles to get it into the POS. then the yeti dog came out, which was decent. then it took about ten minutes for them to put three scoops of ice cream in cups. the ice cream is alright. cashier can't stay focused on the mission.
google avatar

Tasha M.

Yelp
First time having a Yeti dog which was mediocre in my opinion. We waited in line for probably 25 min to get a warmish hot dog that didn't have any melted cheese or much flavor to it at all. We were hungry so anything to fill our belly was better than nothing.
google avatar

Dave L.

Yelp
Only good food in the entire Big Sky Resort. Great service, friendly employees, great dogs and desserts. A real diamond in the rough. Definitely hit this hot dog stand. They have multiple options for the hot dogs and a great combo of condiments. Try the yeti sauce, it's delicious!

Avidana B.

Yelp
My bf and I came from Jersey traveling from Big Sky, to Whitefish, to Red lodge, to Wyoming and back. The food we've had was terrible and the options were scarce BUT who would've thought hot dogs would've been one of the best meals we've had the whole trip. They were surprisingly great, and the service was even better! Def recommend the Lofty dog.
google avatar

Mario B.

Yelp
Great and fast lunch. Sweaty has jalapeños Definitely hit the spot for lunch while skiing. Best hotdog I've had in a long time.
google avatar

Bill B.

Yelp
I have had great hot dogs just about everywhere around the world and yeti dogs are right up there. Good quality dogs and fresh good quality buns. Nice selection of dogs, beer & ice cream.
google avatar

Nate H.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream, good service, got us moved through even during COVID. Huckleberry Ice Cream is really tasty!

Kyle R.

Yelp
If you're craving a hot dog after the slopes this place is a godsend. This place has some special dogs and some weird combos but they're always delicious. Ask anyone that works in Big Sky, we love us some yeti dogs

Rebecca M.

Yelp
It tastes delicious! And such fast and happy service!! Best lunch after a hard morning of skiing.
google avatar

Arthur C.

Yelp
Unassuming hot dog stand, but the food was very good - chili dog with Fritos was a winner. Good spot for lunch in Mountain Village.
google avatar

Twinkie T.

Yelp
I simply love this place. When you don't have the time to enjoy Scissor William, this is such a solid option for more of a grab, scarf, and go experience. I always ski slower afterwards though.

Whitney C.

Yelp
The hot dogs were delicious, however I found the price of them a little disappointing. $7.50 for just a plain hot dog (didn't include a drink or side).
google avatar

Mark M.

Yelp
The real star of Yeti Dogs is the amazingly friendly staff. Yeah, the dogs are delicious and creative but made even better by the happy, smiling service. Our personal favs were the Texi (chili cheese with Fritos) and the Yeti (mild kraut, special sauce and relish) both with added jalapeños. A great lunch to enjoy at the foot of Big Sky mountain scenery.
google avatar

Karen W.

Yelp
I had a very good tofu dog made up as a "Lexi" and my husband had a beef hot dog made up as a "Texi". Both were spicy, but not too spicy. Their menu consists of a dozen or so hot dog variations, all are available as tofu dogs. Chips are available as sides, Coke products, an IPA on tap and Rainier in cans are auto drink. The only seating is at the picnic tables at the side.
google avatar

Patrick M.

Yelp
We're in Big Sky for part of the summer every year the world isn't ending and the West isn't actively on fire. The first place I stop every time we get here is Yeti Dogs. It's simple, fast, and just plain great. I'm a sucker for the Yeti as the sauerkraut is really f'ing good as is the Yeti Sauce. The wife gets the same thing except she gets a tofu dog. I know, a vegetarian option in Montana, right? Look, what you see is what you get with this place. If you're expecting great dogs with creative toppings, great you're in the right place.
google avatar

Rich S.

Yelp
Awesome Dogs! Great staff and a fun atmosphere. Perfect anytime of the year. The slicker collection is very entertaining.

Yelp
Yeti dogs is my everything... everyone is always nice in there, it's a perfect place to bring friends or kids for a casual meal after hanging out around the resort or skiing, and the hot dogs are great! I've been popping in to yeti dogs for years now and it doesn't get old.
google avatar

Abby F.

Yelp
While I agree with most other reviews stating that Yeti Dogs is just your average hotdog place, I'm still going to say that it's my favorite average hotdog place! When you receive your hotdog it may not look like much, but the flavors it provides are worth it! Yeti Dogs has mastered putting certain flavors together to make one delicious dog. My personal favorite is a creamy sweaty lifty! A lifty dog normally has bacon and cheddar on it with a spicy mayo, but by making it creamy (add cream cheese) and sweaty (add jalapeños) the flavors explode in your mouth. All of this also for a reasonable price! If you ever find yourself in Big Sky you have got to get yourself a Yeti Dog. Not only are the hot dogs yummy but the interior of the shop is very cool with stickers of resorts from all over and their own awesome yeti stickers!

Yelp
Located in the Mountain Village of Big Sky Resort, is a small quaint take-out restaurant called Yeti Dogs. Most passerbys would not notice it as it does not encounter the main path of foot traffic. It is located on the corner of a strip of shops in the Snowcrest Building, by the Swift Current High Speed Quad chair lift. Wander to this small establishment for quite a treat. For $6.75, you can score any hot dog, a bag of chips/candy, and a soda. You can substitute the soda for a 16 oz. can of Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR) for an additional $1.00. I believe there is also an unadvertised deal for the double combo, which you can add a 2nd hot dog for an additional $3.00. For my first experience, I chose their signature Yeti Dog which includes yeti sauce, mustard, sweet relish, red onions, sauerkraut; a bag of Sun Chips; and a PBR. The hot dog was snappy, just how they should always be. Ingredients were fresh and complimented each other so well, making this a killer dog. The spicy mayo was a big hit! These Yeti Dogs are a must try!! The place is pretty small and narrow with a high table in the very back, just beneath a small TV mounted on the wall showing videos of epic backcountry (snowboarding/skiing) runs in fresh pow. When the place is busy, you'll have to walk towards the rear to pick up your hot dog, otherwise they will bring it to the front (by the cashier) and just do a hand off. Hot dogs a la carte average $4.50 each. The biggest hits seem to be either the Yeti Dog or the Texican (mustard, onions, cheese, chili, & jalapenos). Two 16 oz. cans of PBR can be snatched for a measly $4. For a ski resort, this is unheard of!! Yeti dog stickers, about 3" x 2", can be bought in yellow or blue for $0.50 each, and die cut (vinyl) stickers, about 4" x 3", with just the yeti but no logo can be bought for $2.50 each. Just as a heads up: Yeti Dogs is closed on Mondays, so plan accordingly. Hours are 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Visa and Mastercard are accepted, AMEX is not.
google avatar

Yelp
Yeti dogs is the spot for a quick bite while skiing! The lifty is my favorite and the sweaty lifty is the ticket when you want a little heat! Staff is always super happy and friendly and they always have the best stickers!!
google avatar

Michael Y.

Yelp
This tiny hot dog counter is easy to miss and isn't where it appears to show up on Yelp. It's located right in the center of the Big Sky resort just to the right of the lift ticket counters as you look up the mountain. I had the Yeti Dog which was delicious. Only outdoor seating so not great if it's a super cold day, but totally fine on a 30 degree day with ski wear. I was there at 11:25 and was second into the counter at 11:30 when it opened (another Yelp error is that opening time is listed at 11). By 11:45 there was a short line. Things move fast, but there is nowhere to wait inside. You order just inside the door then move to the other end to receive your food. If you are waiting to order, you wait outside!

Yelp
As a hot dog lover, I mentally visited here before I physically did, so really glad I was able to check it out at least once during my week in Big Sky! Typically, yes I'm usually a pretty boring hot dog eater with ketchup and nothing else which yeti dogs frowns upon, so when I was at the counter on a Friday post skiing, I stepped up my game and expanded my horizons. I opted for the Lifty dog, I mean bacon and cheddar with Yeti sauce... What's not to like?! My brother for the Texican dog with chili and jalapenos. Both were good. They made an excellent pre-dinner snack with our beers in the sunshine. A well deserved treat after a long day of shredding the mountain! The interior itself had a lot of character and the employees working were also in a good mood and super quick!
google avatar

Meera A.

Yelp
My favorite place for slopeside in Big Sky resort. The hot dogs are delicious with sauces to "adult" it up. No indoor seating, but great spot for an on-the-go lunch.

Monica B.

Yelp
I tried the yeti, texi and lifty dogs today and they were all delicious!!! You can't go wrong with any of the hot dogs at Yeti Dogs.

Timothy M.

Yelp
It's a hot dog. It's therefore good! I prefer the Texi with chili and Fritos. Crunchy perfection in a bun
google avatar

Adrian D.

Yelp
Yeti Dogs & Rainier beer. Great lunch. Buns are always fresh & every dog is delicious.
google avatar

Mark E.

Yelp
Love the product. However Yeti's priority is their own convenience, not the service of their customers. They are routinely closed on any given Thursday through Monday without notice. I am done. They need to leave and let someone do it better who actually gives a rip.
google avatar

Foo D.

Yelp
I wish there was one near me in los angeles.id never eat anywhere else. All we have here is lousy pinks hot dogs and weinershnitzel both are awful!. I miss yeti dogs.
google avatar

Maggie P.

Yelp
Quick service. A little pricey, but it's on par with establishments that sell hot dogs. I got the yeti dog. It was tasty, but on the smaller side for a $5.50 hot dog. My brother got the Ono and enjoyed it. If you're in a rush or want something fast, I'd recommend Yeti Dogs. But if you have more time, enjoy a beer and more quality meal at one of the other restaurants right near by.

Roxane N.

Yelp
Pretty pricey for hot dogs, but they were good. Chili dog was yummy. Small scoop of ice cream for 4 dollars
google avatar

Eric N.

Yelp
Here's what to expect...An average hot dog, counter service, and like 4 different options for chips. Nothing to write home about. Their marketing and concept is great. A cool logo, T-shirts, awesome musical art inside by counter: everything that would make you think the place is awesome. But the hot dogs come wrapped in foil which squishes the enriched white bun and makes for a messy dog. It's kinda like they throw the dog together then throw it at you. Presentation would be way better in a little tray. And they could step up their menu options for sure. I had the "Texito" which was ok for a chili dog with crushed fritos. Bottom line: Go here if you want a quick bite, but don't expect an amazing hot dog experience.
google avatar

DAVID L.

Yelp
Items Ordered: - Yeti Dog The hot dog isn't bad, it's nothing more than a hot dog. Caught the owner being pretty obnoxious when he was the only one working behind the counter and there was a line about 7 people deep. Quoted him saying while he went from the cash register area to the hot dog preparation area, "If I didn't own this place, I'd quit." really??? Eventually after waiting about 20 minutes, there was someone who helped get behind the counter and take the orders. I'll give the owner kudos for his cash register order entry setup, he was using an Ipad secured to the counter. Pretty good setup being on the corner and not many food options around. I would not return as a customer.
google avatar

Jeffery G.

Yelp
Our shuttle driver told us about this gem, and i'm VERY glad he did. We skied Big Sky four days, and I had Yeti Dogs three of the four. Who new BBQ sauce, bacon, and pineapple would taste so good on a hot dog? (Try the ONO if that sounds appealing). Don't miss this place!
google avatar

Valerie R.

Yelp
Solid dogs and great service. I don't recommend coming here at lunch time, only because there's usually a line out the door. Really dug the Ono (you do NOT have to be into pineapple to enjoy this dog) and the Texican. Best. Logo. Ever.
google avatar

Stephen H.

Yelp
The dog itself is just a standard hebrew national style dog. It is not the dog that is gourmet (an overused word in food if ever there was one), but the toppings. No indoor seating so not much traffic on a cold day. An OK snack but to then traipse over to the main lodge after purchasing one on a cold day, meh.
google avatar

Christopher D.

Yelp
no one throws down flavor in big sky better than Yeti Dogs. I honestly almost enjoy getting Yeti Dog more than I enjoy skiing. Gotta order 1 Yeti Dog and 1 Lifty. The first bc Kraut, the second bc bacon. A wonderful pairing. Don't waste your money on the rest of the overpriced restaurants at base.

Susie M.

Yelp
I promise myself that I get one Yeti Dog a year...well usually Tunis into more than one.... I am a huge fan of the Yeti...a classic with the right amount of Yeti sauce and a dog that's very tasty. Love the local ownership in the every growing Big Sky mountain village.... I love that the line is long, the clients are local and the PBR is cold...thanks Yeti!
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
Great combo of flavors. This seems like junk food ( side of chips, candy or granola bar) but the dogs really are delicious and the staff were great.
google avatar

Ashleigh V.

Yelp
I can't for the life of me understand some of the reviews on here. A basic dog? Sure, if you're one of the tourists that decided to go with a plain hot dog with either mustard or ketchup. But that's not what Yeti Dogs is about. They're about creating hot dog masterpieces! My personal favorite is the Lifty, though I take it to the next level by making it a creamy Lifty (with cream cheese! sooo good.). During the winter season I eat Yeti Dogs at least once a week--unhealthy, yes. Do I care? No. Perfect mid-day pow day lunch, and having them wrapped in foil makes it easy to stash one in my pack to take up the lift. During the summer I make special trips up the mountain every couple of weeks JUST to get my favorite hot dog. To address a few things I've read on here: it's a ski resort. It's cold outside. No, they don't have indoor seating, but they never advertised that they did either. Get your dog and take it inside to the Mammoth Room in the Mountain Mall or suck it up and take 5 minutes to eat it outside at the picnic tables. The owner possibly being annoyed? Until you yourself have worked in a place with a constant barrage of tourists as the only member on staff, please reserve passing judgement. Sure, it's everyone's job to accommodate tourists here. They are our bread and butter, and no one is disputing that fact. With that being said, that does not give tourists the right to shout things at clerks or be downright unpleasant. Everyone in the service industry in this town deals with more unacceptable behavior from adults in one winter season than most people probably have to deal with all year. Is it an excuse for expressing disdain in front of customers? No. But cut service industry workers some slack when they're having to deal with screaming kids and entitled adults all day, especially if they're the only one behind the counter and the line is out the door. One comment on one day among great service for approximately 140 days of the ski season does NOT reflect the overall service and attitude of this place. And yeah, they're closed on Mondays, and Chick Fil A is closed on Sundays. That doesn't mean the business is bad for being closed on one day of the week, it just means you're more excited to get it the day after. EDIT:: Yeti Dogs is now open on Mondays! The reason that locals put Yeti Dogs stickers on every stickable surface isn't just because it's cool (and let's face it, that yeti is super cool), but because we all genuinely love the place, the food, the beer specials, and the owners/staff. It's not some marketing ploy to trick people into thinking their dogs are good. I know that I, as a local and frequent patron, am happy to place the yeti on my ski helmet and car because I support their product. Plus, they have Angry Orchard. Yum. Keep on keepin' on Yeti Dogs! You guys are the best fast place in the Mountain Village!
