I had a fantastic stay at YHA! The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. I loved the cozy TV room with comfy sofas and cushions and the Quiet Room - both perfect for focused work or relaxation. The kitchen is well-designed with plenty of fridge space so everyone has their own cooking corner. Everything is clean and well-organized. I especially appreciate the luggage storage service which is a game-changer for travelers like me on a working holiday. It made exploring Australia so much easier without carrying all my belongings. Without saying, the location and price are unbeatable. The only small downside is the TV room's opening hours (7 AM to 12 AM), which feel a bit unnecessary. It would be great to have 24-hour access, especially for those who need a quiet space to use their laptops without disturbing roommates. Since many guests stay up late, the common area on the first floor can get quite busy, making it harder to focus. Still, highly recommend this place!

The counter staff couldn't be faulted and the place was clean. The kitchen and eating area was huge and clean. The tourist spots were easy to walk to. However, I couldn't put my finger on what it was that didn't jell for me. Was it winter? I'm well and truly a senior so perhaps that might have had something to do with it too.

Stayed here for 3 nights as part of my solo travels through Australia. Hostel is nice overall, kitchen, bathrooms and communal spaces were clean. Not a super busy / fun vibe hostel, lot of people staying there for work etc. On the downside I had booked an all female dorm and on the last night woke up to 2 men staying in the room….other than that it was an ok stay.

Great location of this hostel, as usual for YHA hostels. It was close to the city centre, restaurants and bars. Hostel had good facilities as well. I stayed in a female dorm and everything was clean. Bathrooms were a bit old, but other than that everything was ok. Staff was very, very nice as well.

Absolutely loved my stay here! The location is unbeatable right in the heart of the city, perfectly positioned between the bus and train stations, which made getting around incredibly easy. The staff went above and beyond, their helpfulness truly exceeded my expectations. The hostel was clean, cosy, and had a welcoming vibe throughout. Free internet worked well. Highly recommend this place for comfort, convenience, and exceptional service!

Ground floor showers were unusable the entire time I was there (8 days) so its kinda annoying to use the 1st/2nd floor bathroom. Other than that the hostel were okay. Love the free towel. The guy front staff (glasses with white hair) on 29/04/2025 were amazing!!!

The cleanest and well-organized hostel I’ve ever been to. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful with requests and questions With quiet room in place, the hostel feels more like a college dorm than a weed-smelling slum. The only social place is on the first floor where you can watch tv, cook and play pool, other than that, the ground floor and the rooms are all very quiet and peaceful.

YHA Adelaide is an excellent hostel with plenty of space to relax and work. The facility is huge, featuring two TV rooms, a spacious common area, and an exceptionally large kitchen. The rooms are also very spacious and cleaned daily, ensuring a comfortable stay. The staff is incredibly kind, helpful, and quick to resolve any issues. One of the standout aspects of this hostel is its strict policy against antisocial behavior, which makes it a safe and welcoming environment for all guests. For digital nomads and students, this hostel is a fantastic choice. There’s a coworking space and a quiet room with fast-speed internet, making it easy to focus on work or studies. A few areas for improvement: More fridges and freezers would be beneficial, as finding space in the fridge can be difficult during peak times. Turning the beds into pods with curtains would significantly enhance privacy and comfort, making the hostel even better. Laundry prices are quite high ($8 per load)—a lower price would make it more accessible for travelers. Overall, YHA Adelaide is a top-tier hostel with great amenities, cleanliness, and a friendly atmosphere. With a few small improvements, it could easily be a 10/10 destination!

Yelp
I've stayed here several times because my family live out in the country and before I found accommodation in the city I had to have some place to sleep while I was looking for a place to rent. I have been a Youth Hostels Association member for many years, but you do not have to be a YHA member to stay in this clean and utilitarian accommodation. You should be fresh faced and ready to pay the reasonable rates. You should be happy to clean up after yourself in the shower room or the kitchen and you should be a happy camper willing to share the lounge room without demanding everything is your way (like what music is playing or what film is being screened on the TV) If you are they type who is able to enjoy hostel type arrangements, this is one of the finest in the state. It's not as noisy as some inner city hostels, like the ones in Sydney or Auckland (NZ) for example. There are lots of really excellent and cheap eating venues within walking distance in Gouger Street, there is a public swimming pool about ten minutes away on a bike or bus and only a thirty minute walk away (through the park lands) there is Internet access and there are usually lots of rooms available if you don't mind sharing in a bunk bed room - usually there's no more than six in one room so it doesn't get massively overcrowded. Adelaide is a university city so it is not unusual to find many students at the start of the year here doing what I did - looking around for long term accommodation from the hostel base. The price range per person per night starts at just under $30 so it is very reasonable indeed.

Yelp
The rooms were nice here and each bed had it's own light and outlet, with lockers in the rooms. The kitchen and hangout area was really nice as well.

Yelp
The receptionist John threw a cup of urine on me from a second story balcony and had the audacity to accuse me of harbouring illegal fireworks. He also swore at me twice. When I requested he not swear he told me to deal with it and called me a piece of shit. I've stayed at youth hostels all over the world (including Germany) and I've never been treated so poorly. I sincerely hope "John" reconsiders his attitude towards customers.

Yelp
For a Youth Hostel, this one is definitely up there with one of the better ones I have stayed at. If you're not fussed with possibly sharing a room (possibly with someone you can learn new things from), sharing bathrooms, kitchens and leisure rooms, then this would be a decent place to stay for a good price. Also, located on Waymouth St it is not far to walk to the mall, or there are always restaurants and cafes somewhere around. There's Internet access available, and always staff willing to help with anything they can. The rooms aren't too bad either. I have stayed in a four bedroom room, which included two bunk beds, with two others friends and every time we are greeted by sharing a room with a foreign traveller who we share stories with. Who doesn't enjoy making new friends from different countries? You never know when you're going to need a friend who lives overseas!

Yelp
I'm reaaaaally glad we chose to stay at this hostel. There's a decent selection of hostels in Adelaide and it took a bit of research to find the right one for our needs. Although this YHA tends to be a few dollars more than the super cheapy-cheap hostels, the quality and convenience really make up for the price. Having a YHA card doesn't hurt either. The place is spotless. Dare I say it's the cleanest hostel I stayed in while traveling through Australia?! Possibly! The first floor is mainly for checking in and computer use, whereas everyone else hangs out in the enormous social room. There. Is. So. Much. Space. Like wow. The hostel makes a decent attempt to fill this huge space with games, couches, and tables for dining and everything else. I personally see this room ideally for a Friday night dance party slam down. It wants to be so bad, but is willing to accept itself being just a big, fun game room. It's also semi-centrally located within the city just a few blocks from busy King William St and walkable to just about anywhere unless you want to hop on a nearby tram. We had made friends in other hostels during our week's stay in Adelaide. Once viewing our other hostel choices, we knew we made the right move with the Central YHA. Everywhere else just seems cramped, dingy and far away. Or maybe we were just spoiled at this point. :) It was worth it though!

Yelp
It's got a good hangout area, including secluded film and reading rooms. The kitchen is big, but gets crowded. I was a bit put off by the number of big groups that were there during my fortnight stay, which took over the kitchen every night. The location is good- close to Coles, Central Markets, and not far from Rundle Mall and Victoria Sq. The lockers were good, big and shelf-like (instead of under the bed). The rooms were clean, though the beds were a bit squeaky. All in all, good.
