I had an amazing time in YHA Adelaide. The vibe is very social though unforced and the common room is big and lets many people sit at one table and make easy conversation. The kitchen was very clean and big. There were lots of rooms to hang out in or work in peace and quiet. The hostel is only 3 floors so the vibe is much more intimate and less anonymous than most hostels. There is a park right across from the door and a grocery store 5 mins away. Absolutely adore this place

Fantastic location in the city centre close to transport and services. Clean, comfortable and well maintained rooms and great value. Property is very well managed and looks after guests. Have stayed a few times and will again.

Decent stay, but poor bed privacy and inconsistent, rude staff. I stayed here for 9 days. In general, the hostel is okay, though be aware that the dorm beds have absolutely no privacy curtains, so sleep quality can be hit-or-miss. My main issue was the jarring difference in staff attitude. I needed to store my items for a short period after checking out (while moving to a rental). I explicitly asked for and received permission from a staff member to do this. However, a different female staff member later cornered me, interrogated me about where I was going, and spoke to me in a deeply condescending manner regarding the storage. It is unprofessional to have one staff member approve something and another treat a 9-day guest like a nuisance for following those instructions. If the policy is "no storage," get your team on the same page. No need to talk down to paying customers. I wouldn't stay again purely based on that interaction.

Perfect stay with great services here. Sharing a room with an access card make you feel safe. Even the toilet is accessed with the card. Luggage storage is available and is secured by staff at the reception. Location beat hand down and we booked another night with private room. Only down side is a shared toilet.

The YHA Adelaide Central is by far the best hostel in the city. From the moment you check in, you notice how clean and well-organized everything is. The rooms are spacious, always spotless, and the beds are super comfortable, you’ll actually get a good night’s sleep here! The bathrooms are kept in great condition, and the kitchen is big, fully equipped, and always open, which makes it easy to cook your own meals at any time of the day. The vibe is perfect: safe and relaxed, but also social enough to meet amazing travelers from all over the world. You can chill, focus on your own trip, or connect with new friends the atmosphere gives you the freedom to choose. The common areas are cozy, and it never feels overcrowded. The location is excellent right in the city, walking distance to shops, cafes, public transport, and Adelaide’s main attractions. On top of that, the staff are incredibly kind and helpful. They’re always available with a smile and genuinely make you feel at home. To all the French travelers (and everyone else too!) come here, you won’t regret it. Clean rooms, super comfortable beds, and a kitchen that’s always open. This is exactly what you want from a hostel. And believe me don’t go to Tequila Sunrise because YHA Adelaide is on another level! 🔥

Services was horrible got told that my partner and I couldn’t stay there because my partner is 17yr and he can’t stay with me because he is under age and need to be with a guardian but I am 20y. Oh also we didn’t get a refund so we had to try and find another place with only $20 lucky we have other people that care about us and we found somewhere to stay.

1st time trying hostel. But chose hostel due to short trip in Adelaide. Cool to meet new people . Location is fantastic. Towel available. Only dislike is that the rooms are not soundproof - keep hearing doors banging during night time, people talking loudly etc,  can’t help much as everyday people are leaving anytime in the night too.

Spare sheets were nice and clean but The mattresses provided are too thin to sleep comfortably, pillows too thin, No charging points near beds. Sofa in the TV room on first floor has no cushioning. One of the shower rooms ceiling is leaking. Probably the bath/ toilet floor above that shower room is leaking. Although it’s cheap but I probably wouldn’t recommend to stay here.

Yelp
I've stayed here several times because my family live out in the country and before I found accommodation in the city I had to have some place to sleep while I was looking for a place to rent. I have been a Youth Hostels Association member for many years, but you do not have to be a YHA member to stay in this clean and utilitarian accommodation. You should be fresh faced and ready to pay the reasonable rates. You should be happy to clean up after yourself in the shower room or the kitchen and you should be a happy camper willing to share the lounge room without demanding everything is your way (like what music is playing or what film is being screened on the TV) If you are they type who is able to enjoy hostel type arrangements, this is one of the finest in the state. It's not as noisy as some inner city hostels, like the ones in Sydney or Auckland (NZ) for example. There are lots of really excellent and cheap eating venues within walking distance in Gouger Street, there is a public swimming pool about ten minutes away on a bike or bus and only a thirty minute walk away (through the park lands) there is Internet access and there are usually lots of rooms available if you don't mind sharing in a bunk bed room - usually there's no more than six in one room so it doesn't get massively overcrowded. Adelaide is a university city so it is not unusual to find many students at the start of the year here doing what I did - looking around for long term accommodation from the hostel base. The price range per person per night starts at just under $30 so it is very reasonable indeed.

Yelp
The rooms were nice here and each bed had it's own light and outlet, with lockers in the rooms. The kitchen and hangout area was really nice as well.

Yelp
The receptionist John threw a cup of urine on me from a second story balcony and had the audacity to accuse me of harbouring illegal fireworks. He also swore at me twice. When I requested he not swear he told me to deal with it and called me a piece of shit. I've stayed at youth hostels all over the world (including Germany) and I've never been treated so poorly. I sincerely hope "John" reconsiders his attitude towards customers.

Yelp
For a Youth Hostel, this one is definitely up there with one of the better ones I have stayed at. If you're not fussed with possibly sharing a room (possibly with someone you can learn new things from), sharing bathrooms, kitchens and leisure rooms, then this would be a decent place to stay for a good price. Also, located on Waymouth St it is not far to walk to the mall, or there are always restaurants and cafes somewhere around. There's Internet access available, and always staff willing to help with anything they can. The rooms aren't too bad either. I have stayed in a four bedroom room, which included two bunk beds, with two others friends and every time we are greeted by sharing a room with a foreign traveller who we share stories with. Who doesn't enjoy making new friends from different countries? You never know when you're going to need a friend who lives overseas!

Yelp
I'm reaaaaally glad we chose to stay at this hostel. There's a decent selection of hostels in Adelaide and it took a bit of research to find the right one for our needs. Although this YHA tends to be a few dollars more than the super cheapy-cheap hostels, the quality and convenience really make up for the price. Having a YHA card doesn't hurt either. The place is spotless. Dare I say it's the cleanest hostel I stayed in while traveling through Australia?! Possibly! The first floor is mainly for checking in and computer use, whereas everyone else hangs out in the enormous social room. There. Is. So. Much. Space. Like wow. The hostel makes a decent attempt to fill this huge space with games, couches, and tables for dining and everything else. I personally see this room ideally for a Friday night dance party slam down. It wants to be so bad, but is willing to accept itself being just a big, fun game room. It's also semi-centrally located within the city just a few blocks from busy King William St and walkable to just about anywhere unless you want to hop on a nearby tram. We had made friends in other hostels during our week's stay in Adelaide. Once viewing our other hostel choices, we knew we made the right move with the Central YHA. Everywhere else just seems cramped, dingy and far away. Or maybe we were just spoiled at this point. :) It was worth it though!

Yelp
It's got a good hangout area, including secluded film and reading rooms. The kitchen is big, but gets crowded. I was a bit put off by the number of big groups that were there during my fortnight stay, which took over the kitchen every night. The location is good- close to Coles, Central Markets, and not far from Rundle Mall and Victoria Sq. The lockers were good, big and shelf-like (instead of under the bed). The rooms were clean, though the beds were a bit squeaky. All in all, good.
