Ok location 10 mins walk to Roma street station and coaches. CBD 15 min bus Large clean modern hostel with friendly helpful staff. Nice rooftop pool. Showers and toilets large and clean but not many on each floor so could be busy and wait in morning or evening. Some rooms en suite with good size bathroom. Room large locker and well designed with lights and power by each bed

A very last minute stay! After checking out of our horrific first hostel we swiftly booked YHA Brisbane for a few nights stay and it was the best decision we could’ve made. We entered around 8pm at night and the lady at reception was extremely warm and welcoming. We popped our bags in our room, which was small for a 4 bed dorm but still nice and clean, and then headed over to the kitchen. The kitchen had lots of space, there is a pool and bar area and we were delighted to find out there’s a gym! We were an easy walk into town, around 25 mins and near a supermarket. Our stay was great and felt very safe even after coming back very late on NYE night. We have stayed at a YHA before in a different location and couldn’t recommend them enough as a nice and friendly hostel to stay in!

Of course, YHA would never let you down, and the Brisbane YHA absolutely nailed it too! For the price, the facilities and location are spot on! no complaints at all. Great service and a tidy place. Where else would you want to be? Took a star off because my access card went wrong every day.

The hostel was overall good and we had a nice stay. The kitchen was fully operational and fairly clean, which was really appreciated. The bathrooms were also clean, although it depended a bit on the time of day. One small downside was that the frying pans were quite damaged and could probably be replaced. The rooms were clean, however you could hear the train a lot from the bed, which might be disturbing for light sleepers. Despite that, it was still a good experience overall and a decent place to stay.

It was my first and last time at any YHA. One star is too much!! I had a "whinging guest" who had me removed from my 7 day booking. "THANK YOU," as I was wanting to cancel my booking without losing money!! It turns out, the "whinging guest" gave me exactly what I wanted. The management is rude and disconcerting as they take pleasure in removing other guests based on the "whinging guests' views only!!..." abusing basic rules as their guide!! Thank you management, you did me a huge favour!! This YHA was not only too far (and up a hill) from most things, especially public transport and the train station, but also shops that could have helped with basic necessities. Definitely not worth it, as I wanted to leave ASAP!! Using only cards for any purchases is definitely a big deal breaker!! Not everyone has credit/other cards!! No cash accepted!!

Spent two nights in this ho(s)tel. It contains individual rooms as well as the classical hostel rooms. I had an individual room. It was quiet good, all amenities are available, the only problem was that building activities caused in the big building next door caused some nuisance. This was more so as the thermostat of the airconditioning did not work and it became either very cold in the room or we had to close the a.c. and open the windows a bit, hence more noise. Otherwise the staff was very correct, friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good, we enjoyed it.

I had a private en suite room for one night, then a couple nights in a girls dorm. Both were absolutely immaculate and clean. The communal bathroom / showers were clean all times of the day. The rooftop is a great place to hang out any time of day too, and the kitchen has everything you need. Super quick walk into the city and good transport links nearby.

Google
Possibly the plushest YHA I've stayed at (either in the UK or Aus). V clean and well equipped room easily on par with a hotel room. Good breakfast too. I didn't try all the facilities, but suspect they would be equally as good. Only downside is that it's not too close to jumping on the city cat ferry service, but use one of the electric scooters and you have that sorted.

Yelp
This place was on a hill and a bit far from everything around (at least 15-20 minutes away). It's a 10-15 minutes walk from the station, adding time you're walking up the hill. DO NOT book the airport pick up service as it takes an hour to pick up additional passengers, you might be better off walking back to the train station and taking the train there (at least you have control where you're going vs being driven around until the car is full). Unless you have a lot of time to go around the city then you can give it a try. I wasn't too happy about sitting in the car for an extra 35+ minutes picking other people up so imagine people who were picked up before I got on (the car was half full when I got on). They probably wasted an hour waiting for the drive to the airport. I picked this because it was a pickup from the hostel so I didn't have to walk 10-15 minutes back to the station with my luggage but really regretted this choice. I'd be at the airport 30 minutes earlier if I just took the train. I also spend 20 minutes waiting for that pick up. The walk to the museums and the parks are quite far, at least 20 minutes and you'll have to cross the bridge. There's a bus stop 5 minutes away that might take you around but I recommend double checking the bus route to be sure. I stayed in a room that's in a different building. On the 3rd floor there were only 2 shared bathroom and 2 shower spots for ladies, and another accessible bathroom with shower in there as well. Depending on how busy it is you might have to wait to use the sink. Not that many people used the social space on the 5th floor. There is no wifi in the room and only in the common area by the reception. Even then it's with super slow connection. Overall I'd recommend checking other places out.

Yelp
Since 2016, I've stayed here 4 different times, for at least a week and a half each time. It is the nicest hostel in Australia, South America, Vanuatu, and Germany, I have stayed in. Yes, as others have stated, it is up a long hill from the train/bus station. Yes, you pass other hostels . . BUT they can not compare. The kitchen is amazing with huge refrigerators, lockable dry food storage lockers near the kitchen, cooking utensils, dishes, etc. The views from the upper floor and deck are superb, as is the pool on that level. Just across the street is a small shopping center with a well stocked grocery store ! A movie theater, clothing, restaurants, pubs, etc. all within a block. In-room baggage storage is excellent and lockable. Has a shelf for small items and has an electrical outlet to securely charge your phone, etc. GET a transit pass/card at any station. Get on - get off - anywhere you wish, when you see something interesting. The $ you don't use, you get back, at the bus, train, or airport when you leave town. It is usable on everything ! Bus stops are about a block away. Use Google transit 'maps' to find routes and schedules to anywhere . . . and for the trains. GO TO THE KOALA SANCTUARY ! ! on the city bus FOR THE DAY ! Go to the Southbank on the weekend . . always something going on . . . Take the Catamaran ferry both directions on the river. Do so at night (dark) too ! The Fishery is across from the Milton train station about one mile (1.6 km) away. Great seafood. A couple of other local restaurant there, also. Take the bus route to Morgans Seafood Market & Takeaway, in Scarborough. Great beaches along the way. Stop wherever, then get back on. You will not believe the things you see at this business. Walk around this ocean based community, the boat docks, the beaches, everything ! Get some food to eat . . . . . The real Australia . . . . . As a fair review, I do have to mention that the bathrooms' cleanliness has gone down over the last two stays, as has that of the kitchen. Supervision of the staff seems to have become negligible. Attitude of the man doing the kitchen was less than poor (2019). None-the-less, will stay here again when Australia re-opens. Just, first, clean the stuff I use in the kitchen. Finally, the last trip I found a vast number of French and German inhabitants. They do not clean up after themselves ! Observed both groups stealing other people's food from the refrigerators ! Get a lockable (small cable lock needed for thru the zipper handles) food bag at the market. Lock needed for the dry food lockers. Enjoy yourself and life . . take risks ! Don't just 'exist'.

Yelp
My brother and I stayed here for nearly a week in September of 2011. Neither one of us were disappointed with the accommodations here. We chose the six-bed room The room was very basic (as with any hostel) but the bed was comfortable and everything including the bathroom was very clean. Head up to the 5th floor for plenty of activities and beautiful views of the city. We also spent a couple of hours each evening in the restaurant/ bar near the lobby. The food was good but portions were rather small for the prices. Beer was reasonably priced and there are plenty of comfortable places to sit and talk. As for the location- we found it to be convenient to everything we wanted to do. Bring a good pair of shoes because this is a great city to explore on foot! You'd be cheating yourself out of some great experiences by taking a cab or bus. The only complaint I have here was the Wi-Fi access. Too expensive!

Yelp
This place was pretty cool. I stayed at my first hostel ever in Sydney and it was their sister company. I do prefer the Sydney harbor layout better, more open and not so easy to get lost, but you can't have it all. Stephen the French man dreadlock wearing guy was a HUGE help. I loved asking. Him my questions. He was so helpful and if he didn't know it he'd look it up for me. I came prepared too with my questions. They have filtered water fountain right when you walk in and check in at reception. The doors lead out to the bedrooms and the stairs to get upstairs and such. The kitchen was on the 5th floor and had amazing views. I loved seeing this cities lights at night. And I did take a dip in the rooftop pool. How could I not?! And it was freezing lol. I should've went in right after my walk around the city. It was so hot that first night there. But I wanted to wait and watch the views. Big too many people use it so it must be a bit cleaner than expected. It does get super hot around dinner time and breakfast time. Everyone is in there cooking so the body heat is all there they have vending machines there when you don't want to cook. I probably wouldn't stay at this location just cuz of how far up it was! I'm not a beer of walking, in fact I love it. But when it's hot and you're first just arriving with your suitcase, it is an awful walk up a slight incline hill. You pass 4/5 other hostel places for crying out loud!! That's my only complaint. There are shops and places to eat around the corner which I learned my last night there with some girlfriends but was too late. I usually walked back to McDonald's at the train station. I wish I knew about Coles! Right behind us!

Yelp
For just about any YHA, you're going to pay a bit more, but the quality of the place makes it worth the extra price. Rooms: Very, very clean. Light, and excellent storage space--there was enough room for me to lock my entire 50L backpack inside. Bathrooms: Also clean. No complaints here. Kitchen: One of the nicest of all the hostels I stayed at in Oz. Plenty of space in the fridges, high-quality cooking facilities and utensils, and the dining space was clean and bountiful, too. I especially liked the outdoor, roof-top picnic tables--great views while you eat your meal. Community: The hostel had a lot of community space, but when I stayed here it was a less approachable crowd that what I typically experienced. Nevertheless, between the bar, the TV room, book share, and things to do in the city, you'll find plenty of things to do. The front desk was always super helpful with giving directions and recommendations, as well.

Yelp
This is one of the best YHA's that I've stayed at so far, even despite there being a lot of people that stay here. The main thing I kinda disliked about the hostel was that there are two separate buildings/sides to the hostel which does tend to split up the amenities and things the hostel has to offer. I really do appreciate how they put effort into making daily events happen here and the restaurant/bar near the lobby makes it really convenient for people to grab a quite bite or drink. Normally I stay in a 4-share room however I decided to opt for the double room for the one night. I was really pleased with the room and managed to get enough rest hopefully before my morning flight the following day out of Brisbane. Overall a great value, and being a YHA member certainly helps bring the rate down!

Yelp
Cheers Mates Well it's a clean and big hostel located in central Brisbane near Roma Street Station. But I have some points that are not good. No breakfast included and this is rubbish if you take 40 $ night in a dorm. The so called bar DRIFTERS serve expensive breakfast instead. Another thing is that during my stay it was full of Germans and almost no other nationality was to be found. Only hood thing was the cheap drinks in the var if it was open...

Yelp
One of the better YHAs and certainly the best hostel in Brisbane. Modern, secure, clean and safe. Brisbane is a great city to experience Aussie lifestyle and there's no better base for that.

Yelp
There is so much to do and see in Brisbane, we stayed there for three weeks and we were out and about every day doing something different. There is a large selection of one/two day trips available to such places as Australia Zoo , Sea World and the Koala sanctuary which are all well worth visiting, boat trips on the river, Friday and Sunday markets at South Bank, botanical gardens, Mount Cootha with fantastic views over the city and of course Queen Street mall which is a shoppers delight. Take plenty of money and a light suitcase, i was loaded down with souveneirs on the return journey.
