Location is perfect. Very close to everywhere especially to Cairns central, the mall’s got everything. I stayed in a 6 bed shared room. It is basically hostel but there is no curtain around the bed, so definitely is kind disturbing sometimes. Facility is kinda old, but they did the best to maintain. Kitchen is pretty messy mostly. But I mean you can’t expect much out of hostel. Co-working space is nice and clean if you need to work. I would say co-working space is definitely the cleanest place in here…lol

Late check-in was allowed and a special arrangement for late check-in was made by the duty manager. Appreciated. The location is good, which is next to Cairns train station. Very convenient if you will take the Kuranda train at Cairns train station at 0830. Also, it’s a walkable distance between the hostel and reef fleet terminal. Booked a room for 2. The room was clean and spacious in which a few cabinets were provided. Your own padlock was required if you wanted to lock the cabinets. No Hairdryer was provided as a hostel. There were a small swimming pool, big common area and a big kitchen.

Great location, walk to everything. Cheap secure parking which was a bonus being in the middle of the city. Huge kitchen with about 8 fridges, very well organised and plenty utensils, etc. Not a party hostel, we appreciated the quiet after 11pm. We had a private room which was huge but weirdly had a small double bed and no wardrobe, there was nowhere to hang our clothes and nothing to sit on. Not even any hooks, you are not allowed to hang towels or anything on the railing outside, so where are you supposed to hang them up? Big blank walls, not one picture, felt rather prison like. You could fit a king bed, yet it's only a small double, our feet were touching the end. But it was clean, with nice towels provided. Lovely pool and tropical feel outside. Overall, we recommend staying here.

I stayed here for two weeks in a 6-bed female dorm. The location was perfect, right opposite the shopping centre. The room was fine - it had lockers, which is a nice bonus, but no sockets near the beds. The shared bathroom was very clean & pool area was great; it was great that they had some sun loungers. I found the kitchen consistently messy and sometimes disgusting. Dirty pots left out, food in the sink, and the sink itself had a horrible smell. Guests are meant to clean up after themselves, but these rules weren’t enforced - the hostel should accommodate for this and just clean more regularly. The drinking water fountain was out of order the entire time we stayed, so we had to rely on tap water from the kitchen, which had a strong chlorine smell. On a positive note, this isn’t a party hostel & it was quiet at night. I also enjoyed the Aboriginal education event they put on one evening. There’s a two-week stay limit, extendable with manager approval. However, after I left, I heard things became unpleasant. Two of my lovely roommates were kicked out following a complaint and weren’t even given the chance to explain or defend themselves. Some staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, but others didn’t seem particularly approachable or engaged. Having stayed at other YHA hostels, I was disappointed that this one didn’t meet the usual cleanliness standards.

Bed was not done when I got there, I had to do it by myself, and after all day travelling is not what you wanna do. The receptionist was cool, rooms clean, but honestly, they dont know how to not disturb others sleeping, especially in the early morning when they're leaving. But overall, it is a good hostel, clean and not messy like others. The pool is amazing with hydromassage.

They overbooked our room. So, when i returned to my room in the morning after a nightout, someone else had been sleeping in my bed. I then went to reception, to try and resolve it, and the lady at the desk offered no help, seemed pretty annoyed that I even brought it up to her and basically told me i just had to deal with it myself (even though it is entirely the fault of the hostel). The rest of the staff are pretty nice and the hostel itself is fine. Just some pretty baffling customer service from whomever she was

Excellent variety of people staying for all types of reasons and from local and abroad. Great service, across from major shopping centres and close to Rustys markets. You can feel safe and have loads of outdoor options to get personal space or chat to others.

Fantastic location in the city and loved the friendly vibe of the place! Events every night so I never felt I would be left out! Also the beds! So comfy I fell asleep so easy! I think they were new! Loved my stay!

Yelp
Location - this hostel is just around the corner from Shield street on McLeod street. Opposite the shopping centre too so a very short walk to a supermarket or cinema or any type of shop really. The lagoon and esplanade is less then 15 min walk away as are a number of pubs and clubs for the night owls. Plenty of restaurants and cafés within easy walking distance. Now if you are one for doing your own cooking whilst away then the kitchen set up is one of the best I have seen in the many hostels I have stayed in. The fridges are well labelled about what day of the week they will be cleaned out and the central cook tops and bench make it a very social kitchen. Seating indoor or outside. I'm not sure if it is every morning but they did put on pancakes for those up early enough. Yum. There is a small pool in the centre of the hostel and the rooms are around the outside in a U shape on two floors. There is a pool table and BBQ facilities too. The hostel is very much set up to help tourists with booking reef and rainforest tours or on going accommodation or activities down the east coast. Airport shuttle can be organised too. Very helpful staff. The bathrooms are big enough, multiple toilets, showers and sinks. I found the facilities clean and well maintained. The room I stayed in had both a fan and air con and well ventilated windows (able to open further then an inch) allowing for a nice evening breeze to pass through the room. Six beds yet the room did not feel swamped by bags as there were good sized lockers in the rooms, quite easily fit my backpack inside without any trouble. Would defiantly consider staying here again if I pass thru cairns again. Just remember its a YHA not the ritz.

Yelp
Thee most boring hostel ever. I've been to 10 hostels thus far and this is the quietest. No one talks to each other, it's a bit eerie. The facilities are great however. The bathrooms are the nicest I've seen complete with bowl porcelain sinks and blow dryers! Ahhh the luxury of a blow dryer when I've been slumming it for weeks. The kitchen is also set up nicely. My travel agent booked me 4 nights in Gilligan's then 3 nights at YHA for a quieter hostel, but it's honestly too quiet. Would rather go back to Gilligan's.

Yelp
Very satisfied with my stay here! While there wasn't much to it, for $29 a night I wasn't expecting much more than a shower and a clean, safe place to lay my head - And that's exactly what was provided for me! Added bonus (and a nice surprise for me, as this was my first hostel experience): Community events each night so guests from all over the world could mingle and get to know each other. Will definitely stay here again on my next trip through!
