Nice place to stay; clean, in front of a shopping mall, not far from the beach and botanical garden as well. It's just a 5-minute walk to the marketplace. The people at the reception were welcoming and provided me with all the information I needed. It would be nice if the beds had some curtains for a little more privacy. Overall, it's a very good place considering the services offered for the price. I definitely recommend this place!

The place is simple but has a great location and good service. The staffs were polite and proactive. The rooms have charging points far from the beds, which makes it difficult to recharge our electronic devices. For those who are in the top bunk, it is impossible to charge their cell phones during the night, because we leave them charging and if the alarm goes off, it disturbs the other roommates. And the bathroom outside the rooms also makes the experience difficult, since depending on the room you stay in, you have to cross the outside area to use the bathroom.

The well maintained kitchen let's us prepare our own meals, it's very organized and each resident can stock their items clearly. The Jacuzzi and the swimming pool provide a laid back vibe to the place. Overall it's a budget friendly experience and extremely convenient for budget travelers

Sparkling clean, great value for money, excellent location and really calm, pro-social environment. A huge thank you to Vee from Canada (on reception) for being warm, welcoming, fun and kind. What amazing service - thanks a million. My favourite hostel I've ever stayed at in a very long time. Can't wait to be back here.

I had such a good experience at this hostel. Spent my christmas break here, sightseeing the islands just off Cairns. I am abit of a shy and at times awkward type of guy- the staff made me feel welcomed and so accepted here. Also everyone in general were just really friendly and laid back. The location is amazing and so is the whole vibe of the Hostel. I really can’t nock anything about this accomodation. Highly recommend. Thanks Cairns YHA 🙂

The room was pretty clean, however was left unimpressed when I came across a cockroach in the shower. The space was just alright for the two of us. The breakfast was very basic and they didn't start on time at 7am as advertised.

The hostel is in a good location and the thing that made me book it was the pool in the yard. The pool was nice (if you ignore the leaves and stuff inside). The rooms were good size but not the most comfortable beds (not the worst but they moved quite a lot while climbing on top). The thing that bothered me the most tho was that there were no plugs by the bed. There were just 4 in one corner of the room. That was quite annoying. But the bathrooms were very clean and new (they were outside of the rooms).

Yelp
Location - this hostel is just around the corner from Shield street on McLeod street. Opposite the shopping centre too so a very short walk to a supermarket or cinema or any type of shop really. The lagoon and esplanade is less then 15 min walk away as are a number of pubs and clubs for the night owls. Plenty of restaurants and cafés within easy walking distance. Now if you are one for doing your own cooking whilst away then the kitchen set up is one of the best I have seen in the many hostels I have stayed in. The fridges are well labelled about what day of the week they will be cleaned out and the central cook tops and bench make it a very social kitchen. Seating indoor or outside. I'm not sure if it is every morning but they did put on pancakes for those up early enough. Yum. There is a small pool in the centre of the hostel and the rooms are around the outside in a U shape on two floors. There is a pool table and BBQ facilities too. The hostel is very much set up to help tourists with booking reef and rainforest tours or on going accommodation or activities down the east coast. Airport shuttle can be organised too. Very helpful staff. The bathrooms are big enough, multiple toilets, showers and sinks. I found the facilities clean and well maintained. The room I stayed in had both a fan and air con and well ventilated windows (able to open further then an inch) allowing for a nice evening breeze to pass through the room. Six beds yet the room did not feel swamped by bags as there were good sized lockers in the rooms, quite easily fit my backpack inside without any trouble. Would defiantly consider staying here again if I pass thru cairns again. Just remember its a YHA not the ritz.

Yelp
Thee most boring hostel ever. I've been to 10 hostels thus far and this is the quietest. No one talks to each other, it's a bit eerie. The facilities are great however. The bathrooms are the nicest I've seen complete with bowl porcelain sinks and blow dryers! Ahhh the luxury of a blow dryer when I've been slumming it for weeks. The kitchen is also set up nicely. My travel agent booked me 4 nights in Gilligan's then 3 nights at YHA for a quieter hostel, but it's honestly too quiet. Would rather go back to Gilligan's.

Yelp
Very satisfied with my stay here! While there wasn't much to it, for $29 a night I wasn't expecting much more than a shower and a clean, safe place to lay my head - And that's exactly what was provided for me! Added bonus (and a nice surprise for me, as this was my first hostel experience): Community events each night so guests from all over the world could mingle and get to know each other. Will definitely stay here again on my next trip through!
