The 6 Best Hostels in Hong Kong (Updated 2025)

"Located in Sham Shui Po and part of the YHA chain, I found it ideal for families and anyone seeking a quiet stay; all rooms have en-suite bathrooms and there are huge common areas. The hostel features a courtyard and garden, a kitchen with guest pantry, a café, a mini-store and laundry, and it's conveniently near the Sham Shui Po Night Market." - Matthew Kepnes

Good hostel. Quite pricey, but not too bad for Hong Kong. Big room with clean en suite. Good Aircon. Convenient cafe with basic menu. Pantry for staying gusts with microwaves and a few random cooking utensils, washing machines and dryers, and two computers. The building is adapted from a 1950s block of flats, preserving some of HKs heritage. There's a museum on the ground floor. I'd stay there again

It was pretty cool! There's a museum/exhibition going on and it was SUPER cool! It went through the history of the hostel and it made it all the more meaningful of a stay! The hostel has quite a few floors and offered a variety of services like 24 hr laundry and a convenient store; there's also a dance studio and a lecture room. And, there's a hiking trail behind the hostel, which offers a very lush and green scenery. The room was a pretty decent size with 3 beds + one washroom. They provided a kettle and clock. There's 2 mirrors: one at the table and in the semi-closet. The washroom has a shower with two maneuvering (creaky) glass doors. They provided a "shower cream" but no shampoo.

I loved this hostel! Felt like home in Hong Kong.Very helpful and knowledgeable stuff. Very spacious common spaces, garden with tables. The pantry and the laundry were also handy and made you feel at ease. The room had two spacious and modern bathrooms. The area is not right in the centre but has very good transport links and is close to the centre, lots of shops and cafes around and you feel more like a local.Fantastic value for money!

My husband and I booked this hotel for 8 nights on trip.com. Hong Kong was one of the cities where we planned to spend our honeymoon. ||When booking, we selected the option for a separate room for 2 people, and in fine print, it stated that there were options for rooms with two separate beds or one king-size bed. ||When we received the room key, we found that we were given a room with two separate beds. For our honeymoon. My husband and I approached the reception twice and asked to change the room, speaking with the hotel manager, but we were refused. The hotel did not offer any solutions. We asked if there was a possibility to move us to another room when a room with a double bed became available, but we were told that they could not help us. ||The beds themselves are very hard and absolutely uncomfortable. ||I highly do not recommend this hotel due to its terrible customer orientation. Book anywhere but here.

Hygiene 👌. service 👌 . location 👌 . view 👌I booked 8 days but only stayed 5, the remaining days weren't refunded due to their policy which is understandable 2 bathrooms, comfortable beds, hot water available, clean toilets, no noise whatsoever, AC working perfectly, lifts work perfectly. overally speaking everything is perfect and the only drawback is the small locker that didn't fit my whole suitcase, but it wasn't a big deal. the staff members are super friendly and well mannered, I strongly suggest this motel for people who are seeking comfort and hygiene for an excellent price. Hong Kong was an amazing experience !

Was very nice! The location was a bit on a small hill which was difficult because I Had heavy luggage but other thantha the bathrooms were very clean, showers also. The beds were very comfortable also, It is 10 minutes walk from the metro station they can also help you keep your luggage after checkout. Another thing is they require a deposit in cash so I had to a nearby atm, so if you are booking there make sure to bring cash.

Very clean from when you enter the compounds of the hostel, to the reception area, to the room. Credits to the cleaning staff especially when I saw the two en-suite bathrooms of the 8 girls dorm the next morning , it was in a terrible state caused by the guests of the shared dorm. The room is spacious for 8 bed female dorm with lockers, full length mirrors and two en-suite bathrooms. Hand soap , bath soap , toilet paper was provided. No towels and no hairdryer provided. Hanging hooks available in room. Many storage areas with big lockers. Comfortable bed and duvet. You have to remove duvet sheets , bedsheets, pillow case upon checkout and return it to reception area bins. Good choice for the budget traveller and for cost of hotels in Hong Kong. Place is worth visiting just for the nostalgic vibe of the place.

Yelp
I lived there many times before 2020 and it never made me disappointed with its reasonable price, clean and spacious rooms, facilities in good condition, and the environment that makes you feel comfortable. I love 冰室 (cafe) the most and I spent lots of time enjoying the food and meeting new friends who lived in the same room there, and you may love the 嘉顿山(the hill right behind the building) where you will easily have a bird view of Sham Shui Po area by simply "climbing" to the top with the staircase in less than 5 mins. Also, MHH is the only hostel in Hong Kong as it was remodeled and innovated from the local style H-shaped residence building in the past so it is a great place for you to learn the history and the daily life of locals.

Yelp
Mei Ho House was the first public housing-building in Hong Kong, located in Sham Shui Po. It's not the nicest area, but with all the stories I heard about other Hong Kong hostels I can say it's an extremely nice hostel, which absolutely makes up for the location. Besides, the walk from the subway to the hostel isn't scary as long as it's not in the middle of the night, so that's all fine. The hostel itself is the biggest one I've seen in my life; it's seriously HUGE and so are the rooms. I did miss this 'hostel feeling' (all the lonely travelers hanging out together in the common room) as the common room was a restaurant that's also open for other visitors. Talking about that restaurant: it's so cozy! And the breakfast (which is included in your stay) consists of three options: Western style, Chinese style and Hong Kong style. That's just something I only can like. Another thing to like (a lot) about Mei Ho House is the fact that they have their own little post office ánd personal stamp. Oh, I'm sorry for being such a big mail fan :)

Yelp
Very nice Hostel to an even better price. The Location is not very nice but awesome to explore Hongkong auf especially the small markets. The Rooms are small and simple but clean. What is perfect for a Short stay. The staff is also very friendly and helpful. So we could deposit our luggage in a smalltalk storage room when we arrived. (Our plane Landed at about 6.30 so our rooms wasnt ready als we came to the Place) All in all I can absolutely recommend this Hostel!
