Location is so strategic, I can roll my suitcase comfortably from Southern Cross Station (can be noisy from the sound of the train and traffic but still tolerable). It's a clean (even the communal kitchen and shared shower room) and proper hostel with curtain on each bed to maintain privacy. Each bed has light and power socket. The hostel was safe since they only grant access to their guests after 8 pm. Staffs were friendly and helpful. Their wifi works well, and they also offer locker rent post-checkout. A perfect hostel for solo-travelers like me.

We had a remote to control our own heat. It was great since Melbourne was cold and chilly. Close to the tram at Batman Park that took us to St. Kilda. Nice features for wheelchairs. In our room 501 we had a refrigerator which was a nice feature. There is a shared kitchen with microwaves, refrigerators and burners. There was also a table tennis and pool table. I enjoy playing both.

Need to Improve:|My Room, the bed creaked. The light doesn't work, and many sockets in my room doesn't work.||Good:|1. Kitchen is clean and tidy.|2. Staff knows our needs, they help me a lot.|3. Melbourne was cold when I arrived, but room is warm enough.|4. Location is convenience to many places.|5. Toilet is clean.||Actually I think it is good for a hostel and hope the improvement will be considered.

Beds are squeaking very loudly and no bedside plugs. My room was fairly spacious however. Large kitchen, the eating area is half a hallway but still cozy enough - more on the smaller side, however. Rooms were clean, baths mostly.

Im here for my second time, They have definitely upgraded since when I was last here, the beds are so 5 star approved enough I wanna stay longer ahaha. This is my new hostel I stay at because it close to everything close to the train station so that’s a Plus. The Young adult culture n vibe I Get makes it more better, maybe make a friend who Knows. It’s also affordable. 5stars from me.

Absolutely loved my stay at YHA Melbourne Central. The location is perfect, right in the heart of the city with easy access to public transport, great cafes, and all the main attractions. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed, which made it easy to meet other travellers. The staff were genuinely helpful and always happy to share local tips. The rooftop area was one of my favourite spots, ideal for unwinding or enjoying the city views. Everything was clean, secure, and well looked after. I’ll definitely be coming back next time I’m in Melbourne.

Great comfortable hostel, warm lighting, clean and felt safe, good common areas, kitchen good and never felt too busy, good playlists while you have your breakfast on a morning, they have a bar/cafe too, tram stop right outside

This place has everything you need as a hostel-traveller. I stayed in the shoulder season between winter and summer so it hadn’t warmed up yet - inside was cold and dark. Large kitchen with enough fridge space. Wide variety of travellers. There was an organized Halloween pub crawl. Two person bunk room ran on average at $170/night but it depends on the day. Location wise just fine. You can walk all over Melbourne CBD from here but there is also a free trolley right outside the door.

Yelp
I stayed here for 2 nights at the end of my Australia trip and was impressed by the location. I was in a triple room with a single bed and bunkbeds. Lots of space and plugs available. Storage is underbed and secured by using your own padlock. There is wifi and you can buy daily, 3 days or 7 day vouchers. The reception desk staff were friendly and welcoming and happy to help me out with buying bus vouchers for my airport transfer. There isnt that many common areas so i feel it would be hard to really meet people if you were there for a long period of time. Downstairs there is a 7/11 and there is a few food places around to either eat in or takeaway. The tram stops right outside and southern cross statiom is just around the corner. Showers were clean and spacious cubicles and i didnt have to wait very long for one. Overall it was a good base for a few days and i would stay here again.

Yelp
I was somewhat underwhelmed with Melbourne Central YHA given the central location in the city. The location was really good as far as exploring the city of Melbourne, however this hostel is organized in a very strange way! There are no good common areas to meet people and if you're expecting a nice shared kitchen you will be disappointed. The kitchen can fit maybe 5-10 people and there are always people trying to cook in the limited small kitchen. I stayed on the first level and the bathrooms were quite small with only 2 showers and toilets? If I come back to Melbourne I'm staying somewhere else.

Yelp
Good location. Next to Southern Cross Train station. The arrival destination for Sky bus from Melbourne airport. 4 to share room on 3rd floor. 2 bunk beds. Shared toilets and showers. Amenities are clean. Room had smell of unclean waste bin though. Alot of clutter around the room. Did not seem to be enough room locker space for other residents in the room. Luckily there was lockers for rent downstairs. $7 per day for a small locker. Add that to the $44 per day for the 4share bedroom.

Yelp
A nice hostel that is located in walking distance to the attractions in CBD. The staff is nice, and the main floor had a great atmosphere. My friend and I stayed here for 3 nights in a 3-bed all female dorm. The beds and room appliances were a little outdated, and the outlets were far away from the beds, making it hard for us to charge our phones right next to us in bed (which would've been useful since we had alarms programmed to wake us up in the mornings). Another downside is that there is only one bathroom for the whole floor, and in the bathroom, there are only 2 shower and 2 toilet stalls. The toilet paper ran out pretty frequently, and the bathrooms got crowded pretty fast. A nice feature of the bathrooms, however, was that it was pretty modernized, compared to the dorms. Overall, this is a decent place to sleep for the night if you're out exploring Melbourne during the day, but don't expect too much in terms of the amenities.

Yelp
Nice and clean hostel. Also very central location. Only issues is that the recharge power is in an inconvenient spot. So if you want to charge your phone overnight and set an alarm it might be hard to turn it off. Just be aware of this before you do so. Also be aware that Internet is pay per use (so bring your own wireless hotspot or fork out), and the common socializing areas are quite small. But still a great place if you're just concerned with a place to sleep for the night if you want to be in the CBD area (cheaper than most CBD AirBNBs at this time of writing).

Yelp
The location is great for meandering about town or heading down to St Kilda. It's very close to Southern Cross Station. There is only one elevator, which is incredibly hard to catch. As healthy as it is to take the stairs, sometimes you don't want to climb up four floors, especially if you have 25kg worth of luggage. THIS YHA IS NOT HANDICAP FRIENDLY. There was a smoke alarm and we had to evacuate, and a guy on the first floor got into an argument with staff because he wasn't supposed to use the elevator, but couldn't go down the stairs... The staff is friendly and helpful. However, I find the rambling on the intercom every morning to be really unprofessional and annoying. Yes, we know check out is at 10. I don't particularly want to be woken up after a late night by someone talking talking talking over the crackling PA system. The bathrooms. You've got 2 showers and two stalls (per floor), plus a private bathroom/shower combo for the private rooms up-front. It's not exactly ideal when you have ~20 rooms on floor. If one thing was fixed, another was no longer working. As an add on, and this is very specific to this period... the construction both inside and outside the hostel were insupportable. It starts early, and whether it's the rattling seeping in through the window (which you should keep open because it gets stuffy) or the music by the construction workers indoors... needless to say, sleep was not quite replenishing. I think once this hostel is finally fixed, with additional common areas that it severely lacks, it will be pleasant. That said, I found it very darkly painted and stuffy. Also, having to use your key three times to get into your room (elevator, room area, room door) is excessive. Especially when on the first floor you don't need to. First floor also has the only laundry room, which is often in use by cleaning staff. I hope they put another on in on another floor. Last, but not least, Freddy is one of the coolest people on staff. He was accommodating, and sought to put together activities, which, I hope, in time will catch on more. [ I was here a long time, which I think is why I noticed so many things. For a short stay though, I think this place is ideal. ]
