The rating is for the condition of the rooms in the hostel which unfortunately fall below average. Very small kitchen and rooms definitely need decorating. Location is fantastic as its by the lake at the foot of snowdon. Staff are very good. Ample parking space and a small but pleasant dining area. They have a bar and will serve breakfast or meals with advance notice. Forget about data signal on your mobile while you're there and make sure you have coins for the pay phone.

All the YHA hostels I have stayed in were fabulous and this one was not an exception. Comfy beds, lots of space, super clean, friendly staff. Haven’t tried any food but they had supper club dishes and were also serving pizza. And the location- wow! Amazing views to the lake and mountains. If you are not driving there is a bus stop about 5min walk away and the buses are on time and you can get pretty much anywhere.

The viewpoint from across this place are majestic. Can see the tip of Snowdon mountain. There are very few car parking spots but if found one, park your car there and walk around this beautiful lake. It might take couple of hours to walk around it but it is definitely worth it.

This hostel is very good value. Dorm bunks are comfortable, and the location is beautiful, right on a lake & almost next to Snowdon. Self-catering kitchen is decent (if busy) staff friendly & helpful, & crucially there's a good drying room. As mentioned in other posts, the place does need some TLC & modernisation, for which YHA are currently fundraising. Water in the showers could have been hotter, but overall, great for the price.

I think the room plus a good breakfast cost around £27. I mean i pay more at the cinema for 2 tickets and a drink. The views are amazing. The staff are extremely friendly. I mean its a hostel so dont expect to much of the rooms and shower facilities but we were doing the three peaks and Snowdon was our last stop so a bed was extremely appreciated. I think it was good value for money. Beers in the fridge. What more can you ask for.

quite cold in the room as the windows weren't double glazed but the people working there were great, there was a restaurant or you could use the communal kitchen which was great and the breakfast was lovely. perfect spot right on a lake, and a windy path into the woods behind the hostel. beds also very comfy.

As a single parent, I felt well looked after by the kind and friendly staff. They were very understanding with my young children, and went out of their way to look after us. When there was a slight problem with getting our meal to us on time, they were quick to acknowledge the problem and it was dealt with to my satisfaction. ||The location is beautiful and you can literally just walk down the driveway and go for a lovely walk. The coach house self-catering accommodation is ideal for people with families. The only thing I thought was that it was a bit stuffy in our little room - 2 bunks - but apparently they are getting the windows fixed in the coach house when they renovate it in the near future.

Outstanding - iconic - location, and a fascinating building with lovely grounds. The house martins flit all around, and the hostel is surrounded by unspoiled native woodland with easy access to the lakeside. Good choice of public and private bed-rooms, well-stocked library, and members kitchen with all the right equipment. Friendly and tolerant wardens. Ideal base for tourers, climbers, cyclists and walkers. Staff were very relaxed and let me charge my electric car through the window overnight. Wifi would be helpful!
