Liked · The location is perfect. The staff are lovely, genuinely kind people who make you feel welcome. They were very supportive and understanding even when I made a complaint. Disliked · I booked this place because I didn’t want to end up in a party hostel. It was quite overpriced, but I needed some comfort, so I chose a 4-bed female dorm. The room itself was nice and spacious, and I had respectful roommates. But… the outdated door-locking system meant the door slammed constantly, keeping me (and others) awake all night. Even with my custom-made earplugs (27 dB), the banging was unbearable. Apparently, management is aware of this issue—I wasn’t the first to complain. For a place that aspires to be a 3-star hotel, it’s way overpriced for what you actually get. The elevator is also outdated, very slow, and inefficient. Overall, it was a waste of money as I had zero comfort during my stay.

YHA hostels are always a great place to stay, if you are new to a city and want to stay for a conference or events. Their breakfast is really wholesome. The best part is all the social activities, free walks, tours, movie nights that they organize, where u can be a part of and explore the place and make new friends. Great when u are travelling solo. Also, it's just at walkable distance (across the street from exit 1) from central Station that connects to international airport directly.

A wonderful place to stay, central to everything with a light rail station at the front door and only 100m from Central Railway station. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. The rooms are spotless including the communal kitchen. The restaurant attached to the YHA offers good food and coffee at a good price. Something on offer by way of entertainment every night so why stay anywhere else. Will definitely be staying again.

Simple an uncomplicated Check-in. Staff was pretty nice and friendly. Everything was clean and the beds were really comfortable. Enough space in the rooms to store your luggage. The only minus point for me was that it wasn’t as easy to connect with others than in other hostels. But that’s probably very individual experience.

We stayed for four nights Good location, good beds and clean toilets, but not expecting much of the breakfast. Cold milk, only instant coffee And in our room the bin was full when we arrived. Really comfortable bed, silence during the night. Friendly staff

It is definitely a hostel with a higher standard than the standard hostels found in the world. The beds are solid and you can't feel the person moving above/below. There are a lot of common areas, it is also clean and the service is nice. Unfortunately, the pool was closed for the entire period (1 week) of my stay, so I don't know if they open it at all. It's a bit of a shame, because that was what convinced me to stay here. Another minus is the quite long waiting time for the elevator - theoretically there are fire stairs, but you can't use them to go to every floor, which is a bit pointless, because making the stairs available would probably ease the crowds in the elevators. Apart from that, everything was great and I absolutely recommend it! PS. The breakfast is totally not worth the 14 dollars. The only plus is the delicious yogurt, but apart from that there are cereals, toast and croissants. Very basic and it's probably better to spend it on a real breakfast in town.

Really enjoyed my stay here! Spent six nights in a 6 bed women's dorm (and had the room to myself for three of those nights). Bed and pillow were quite comfortable, and the beds have good curtains, two power outlets and a light. Common area and kitchens were a bit dirty, but nothing too terrible. Could do with a bit more of a cosy atmosphere, maybe replacing some of the benches with couches and adding some lighting that isn't just the harsh overheads, it just wasn't the best vibe to spend lots of time in. Bathrooms were clean and pleasant to use, I saw them getting cleaned frequently. Location is so so perfect, with every transport option within a 2 minute walk. Chinatown is the next block over with lots of food options. I spent a lot of time at the cafe next door (In Cafe) which had a lovely vibe and stayed open till later in the evening. Overall, I would recommend staying here. Didn't seem super social, but I was too busy to participate in any of the activities they hosted so that might be a different experience altogether. Definitely bring earplugs, this hostel draws in an older crowd who snore quite a bit louder than your average backpacker.

Like previous reviews I think the price and the location are ideal. It’s right next to the Sydney Central and walking distance from many tourist attractions, restaurants and shops. However in terms of general cleanliness and administration there is room for improvement. When I arrived I was mistakenly put in an all woman’s dorm room and went back to ask why. Then they moved me to another room and later in the evening my key card stopped working and need have it fixed again. To be fair, the staff was friendly and helped fix these issues straight away, but the fact that they happened from the get go is frustrating and a general sign of how the establishment is run. The bathrooms on all levels were very messy on all three days of my stay. The free WiFi was not very reliable. You need to buy a lock to secure your luggage 6 dollars on site but they didn’t have any when I was there. It is also fairly noisy, but that’s to be expected when staying in a hostel and I didn’t mind. The long and the short of it is it’s a hostel that looks much nicer in the online promotional materials than it really is. You get what you pay for. It’s a great place for budget travelers but I probably wouldn’t stay at this location again.

Yelp
The breakfast that they provide is the most ridiculous thing I've ever purchased. $12 for toast and cereal. They don't even have the decency to make eggs or something warm. It's the same everyday and it's embarrassing for the company. Do not recommend.

Yelp
The facilities and rooms are really nice here. The beds have individual outlets and lights, along with lockers. There's also a nice pool area on the rooftop. The location is unbeatable because it is so close to the Central Station and you can walk to tons of bars and restaurants.

Yelp
This was the first hostel that I stayed out when coming to Australia and it was definitely a great experience. I really liked the common area which was quite spacious and had lots of power outlets for plugs. The cafe next door (In Cafe) had great food and drinks at affordable prices. The main negative thing I have to say about Sydney Central YHA is that it's very hard to meet people here since there are a lot of people that stay here. Now I understand that they organize activities for people to get to know each other, but the amount of people can seem overwhelming...

Yelp
Im for the 3rd time here and it is still one of the top hostels in australia (and even further!). The rooms are nice (some windows cant be open), it's literally around the corner of central station and got very good facilities. The only negative thing: the prices went up every time i returned. We are talking now of mid30 bucks for a 6dorm, an 8dorm is over 30 AU$, so imho quite expensive! Nevertheless, this place is highly recommended! (although for my probable next stay I will check other hostels too)

Yelp
Australia knows how to do hostels better than anywhere else I've traveled. The hostel is a large one but well run with adequate public areas There was a great kitchen, the rooms have lockers, enough bathrooms, individual lights for the bunks good location, rooftop pool. What more could you ask for. I never heard a thing from the bar, so this might depend on where your dorm is located.

Yelp
Stayed here for quite a bit, and although it was some time ago, I would recommend it again. It's central, safe and close to any number of amenities. The staff were friendly and the rooms comfortable. My food was always stolen by other travellers though, that was the only downside.

Yelp
Good rooms, great kitchen, amazing spa and rooftop terrace. i must have been a bit unlucky to be staying on the same floor as a group of teenage boys who were incredibly noisy. I guess it happens.

Yelp
Great desk staff. Friendly. Amazing location. Right of airport train and in the heart of the city. Accommodations are decent. They have day lockers for anyone who is looking to continue exploring the city after you check out. Free wifi in the lobby. Definitely recommend to anyone on a budget!

Yelp
Loud music starting 9pm till 3am. Was not told it was going to be a DJ party when i checked in. And i specifically requested a quiet room because I am here for work. Reception was empathetic but couldn't do anything at 2AM except assure me I would be forced to be awake for only another 30 min until the club closes.

Yelp
Great location, price good. Hallways smell of mold or dead carpet and rooms are small but has lock in room that fits a good size laugage. Staff very friendly. I still recommend just don't be surprised.

Yelp
It was clean and safe. However, bathrooms are communal. There is no furniture aside from the bunk beds, so there's no real comfortable space in the rooms. I'll go back, but only as a very temporary option.

Yelp
Stayed here for 3 nights and was very happy with both the staff and the rooms in the YHA. The staff were very helpful and smiley and made any anxious feeling of staying in a hostel disappear. There were loads of activities to sign your self up to and random nights to look forward around the hostel and the city. Attached to this YHA is a travel desk so you can book any forward travel, trips or excursions. The room was pleasant - it was bare but I wasn't expecting too much and wasn't disappointed. It had bed, desk, 2 chairs and a couple of hooks on the wall. The kitchen was large and clean, and the pool/relaxation area was always busy with people to talk to. The only minor was that there were not enough computers which meant there was a always a queue - but this wasn't major as you learnt when to go off peak. It was close proximity to the tube to get to all the major sites.

Yelp
I wasn't sure what to expect from youth hostels in austraila. Most in britian are quite poor. However this place is clean, modern and has all the facilities of most 3 star hotels. The only thing that this place lacks is a little character. YHA's Railroad Square hostel around the corner is better for that if you want to meet like minded people. Also some of the rooms there are actual old railway carriages

Yelp
We stayed here when we first arrived in Sydney from the UK and to be honest it wasn't a good idea as we couldn't get a good night's sleep for days as there is a night club underneath it, but looking at it objectively it was a great place. It's cheap (naturally) and very clean and secure and has everything you'd want from a hostel. There's also a lots to do and good opportunites to try new things and meet people. The location is great - only a few mins from the most beautiful harbour in the world!
