It is definitely a hostel with a higher standard than the standard hostels found in the world. The beds are solid and you can't feel the person moving above/below. There are a lot of common areas, it is also clean and the service is nice. Unfortunately, the pool was closed for the entire period (1 week) of my stay, so I don't know if they open it at all. It's a bit of a shame, because that was what convinced me to stay here. Another minus is the quite long waiting time for the elevator - theoretically there are fire stairs, but you can't use them to go to every floor, which is a bit pointless, because making the stairs available would probably ease the crowds in the elevators. Apart from that, everything was great and I absolutely recommend it! PS. The breakfast is totally not worth the 14 dollars. The only plus is the delicious yogurt, but apart from that there are cereals, toast and croissants. Very basic and it's probably better to spend it on a real breakfast in town.

Like previous reviews I think the price and the location are ideal. It’s right next to the Sydney Central and walking distance from many tourist attractions, restaurants and shops. However in terms of general cleanliness and administration there is room for improvement. When I arrived I was mistakenly put in an all woman’s dorm room and went back to ask why. Then they moved me to another room and later in the evening my key card stopped working and need have it fixed again. To be fair, the staff was friendly and helped fix these issues straight away, but the fact that they happened from the get go is frustrating and a general sign of how the establishment is run. The bathrooms on all levels were very messy on all three days of my stay. The free WiFi was not very reliable. You need to buy a lock to secure your luggage 6 dollars on site but they didn’t have any when I was there. It is also fairly noisy, but that’s to be expected when staying in a hostel and I didn’t mind. The long and the short of it is it’s a hostel that looks much nicer in the online promotional materials than it really is. You get what you pay for. It’s a great place for budget travelers but I probably wouldn’t stay at this location again.

I had a very pleasant stay at YHA Sydney Central. From the moment I arrived, I was warmly welcomed by Angel (the Angel!) at the front desk with a BIG radiant smile. Her helpful orientation about the hostel and surrounding area especially the super convenient Central Station just across the road made settling in easy and stress-free. I also appreciated the clear signage in the hostel which made navigation simple and intuitive. I was thrilled to find the dual-monitor setups thoughtfully provided at every desk in the co-working space - something I have always desperately needed but never found in all of my travels across more than 20 countries. It was a huge bonus for me. I’d love to see it open beyond 11 pm. Given the area is well-secured with access card and CCTV, keeping it open 24/7 would be more user-friendly for those who struggle to focus during busy hours or for night owls working across different time zones. Another seemingly small but thoughtful touch that made a big difference was the steam iron and ironing board provided in the laundry room. They were exactly what I needed very much since my clothes often come out wrinkled after long hours packed in suitcases. I was also impressed by the detailed guidelines and the conveniently placed bins that encouraged timely, efficient and proper waste separation. In a world where environmental awareness is still lacking in many places, this served as a valuable education opportunity that travelers can learn from and take back to their own countries. It personally boosted my own environmental consciousness. I truly believe this is an excellent demonstration for travelers coming from different parts of the world. My room was comfortable with a high ceiling, a tall window and a spacious locker to an extent that even a 81 cm suitcase can fit in with no difficulty. The table and chairs inside fostered a friendly and communal atmosphere which is perfect for us to unwind and share interesting stores with fellow travelers. However, both my roommates and I found the room too cold at night and it seemed that there was no temperate control options such as heating or air-conditioning. Also, the traffic noise from outside was quite loud, even on the fifth floor, and it lasted all day until midnight. One area that really needs urgent attention is the Wi-Fi. During my brief two-day stay, the internet connection dropped frequently regardless where I was in the hostel, whether I was in my room, or on the kitchen floor, even at the front desk. A stable and reliable internet connection is essential for today’s travelers. To be honest, this was one of the most unstable, the slowest and weakest internet connections I have experienced in Australia. Thankfully, the internet connection was much better in the co-working space. Thank you again for the warm hospitality and for creating such a welcoming space for us. I hope this review is helpful. I genuinely appreciate the effort put into maintaining such a great environment.

Location was okay, considering it was close to trams and some nice restaurants / fast food joints. Rooms were typical dorm set up, multiple single bed bunks, some cabinets to store things in (no locks or security that I could see) and sitting areas. No open able windows or AC system (quite ridiculous) so it can get very stuffy in the rooms. Rooms have poor sound proofing, you can very easily here the banging of doors and the loud talking of your neighbours (so annoying. So that could use some real improvement. Their customer service was good. They check you on really quickly and are helpful. Breakfast is the most minimalist rubbish I've ever seen. I was expecting at least some eggs and bacon, but all they give you to choose from is ; three choices of cereal, some stale looking bread, and some stale looking croissants / muffins. This could really use some touching up. Though it was a cheap add on, it's not worth it. Brekkie brought down by a whole star level. I wasn't thinking about adding it at the beginning, but I thought I would as i had nothing else planned for breakfasts. Should have saved the small bit of money and chosen against it. Overall 4/5

Very impressed with this hostel. Lots of facilities, from a movie room, rooftop pool and weekly activities. The bathrooms are very clean and modern in design. The bedrooms are also maintained well, with comfy bunkbeds and I extremelt liked the curtains for privacy. The staff here were friendly and accomodating. The hostel is located in the centre of Sydney and with the tram stop being right outside you are a quick journey to Circular Quay (Opera House/Harbour Bridge). |I woupd fully recommend this hostel!

This hostel is amazing! The staff are super friendly and helpful — they gave me lots of useful local tips when I checked in. The vibe is relaxed and social, with great common areas where you can meet travelers from all over the world. The rooms are clean and tidy, beds are comfy, and the bathrooms are well-maintained. The location is also very convenient, with supermarkets and bus stops nearby. If you’re looking for a cozy, affordable place to stay and meet new people, I highly recommend this hostel!

The YHA central has a great location, right next to light rail, bus stops, and central station. You get what you pay for, rooms aren’t special depending on what you pick. I had a 4 person bunk dorm. It was good enough. Toilets are a bit small, showers are decent. Again, you get what you pay for. The best part is definitely the location, you can get to anywhere and walking around the area is fun too. Though the breakfast that you can pay a bit extra for is limited, it’s not the most expensive either.

I loved the location—right across from Central Station, making it super convenient for getting things done and commuting. The staff was nice and welcoming. Breakfast was okay, nothing special. The only downside was that they don’t provide towels (I should’ve double-checked that before booking, my mistake), and the top bunk was a bit dusty, which made me sneeze all night. Other than that, I really enjoyed my stay and would recommend it!

Yelp
The breakfast that they provide is the most ridiculous thing I've ever purchased. $12 for toast and cereal. They don't even have the decency to make eggs or something warm. It's the same everyday and it's embarrassing for the company. Do not recommend.

Yelp
The facilities and rooms are really nice here. The beds have individual outlets and lights, along with lockers. There's also a nice pool area on the rooftop. The location is unbeatable because it is so close to the Central Station and you can walk to tons of bars and restaurants.

Yelp
This was the first hostel that I stayed out when coming to Australia and it was definitely a great experience. I really liked the common area which was quite spacious and had lots of power outlets for plugs. The cafe next door (In Cafe) had great food and drinks at affordable prices. The main negative thing I have to say about Sydney Central YHA is that it's very hard to meet people here since there are a lot of people that stay here. Now I understand that they organize activities for people to get to know each other, but the amount of people can seem overwhelming...

Yelp
Im for the 3rd time here and it is still one of the top hostels in australia (and even further!). The rooms are nice (some windows cant be open), it's literally around the corner of central station and got very good facilities. The only negative thing: the prices went up every time i returned. We are talking now of mid30 bucks for a 6dorm, an 8dorm is over 30 AU$, so imho quite expensive! Nevertheless, this place is highly recommended! (although for my probable next stay I will check other hostels too)

Yelp
Australia knows how to do hostels better than anywhere else I've traveled. The hostel is a large one but well run with adequate public areas There was a great kitchen, the rooms have lockers, enough bathrooms, individual lights for the bunks good location, rooftop pool. What more could you ask for. I never heard a thing from the bar, so this might depend on where your dorm is located.

Yelp
Stayed here for quite a bit, and although it was some time ago, I would recommend it again. It's central, safe and close to any number of amenities. The staff were friendly and the rooms comfortable. My food was always stolen by other travellers though, that was the only downside.

Yelp
Good rooms, great kitchen, amazing spa and rooftop terrace. i must have been a bit unlucky to be staying on the same floor as a group of teenage boys who were incredibly noisy. I guess it happens.

Yelp
Great desk staff. Friendly. Amazing location. Right of airport train and in the heart of the city. Accommodations are decent. They have day lockers for anyone who is looking to continue exploring the city after you check out. Free wifi in the lobby. Definitely recommend to anyone on a budget!

Yelp
Loud music starting 9pm till 3am. Was not told it was going to be a DJ party when i checked in. And i specifically requested a quiet room because I am here for work. Reception was empathetic but couldn't do anything at 2AM except assure me I would be forced to be awake for only another 30 min until the club closes.

Yelp
Great location, price good. Hallways smell of mold or dead carpet and rooms are small but has lock in room that fits a good size laugage. Staff very friendly. I still recommend just don't be surprised.

Yelp
It was clean and safe. However, bathrooms are communal. There is no furniture aside from the bunk beds, so there's no real comfortable space in the rooms. I'll go back, but only as a very temporary option.

Yelp
Stayed here for 3 nights and was very happy with both the staff and the rooms in the YHA. The staff were very helpful and smiley and made any anxious feeling of staying in a hostel disappear. There were loads of activities to sign your self up to and random nights to look forward around the hostel and the city. Attached to this YHA is a travel desk so you can book any forward travel, trips or excursions. The room was pleasant - it was bare but I wasn't expecting too much and wasn't disappointed. It had bed, desk, 2 chairs and a couple of hooks on the wall. The kitchen was large and clean, and the pool/relaxation area was always busy with people to talk to. The only minor was that there were not enough computers which meant there was a always a queue - but this wasn't major as you learnt when to go off peak. It was close proximity to the tube to get to all the major sites.

Yelp
I wasn't sure what to expect from youth hostels in austraila. Most in britian are quite poor. However this place is clean, modern and has all the facilities of most 3 star hotels. The only thing that this place lacks is a little character. YHA's Railroad Square hostel around the corner is better for that if you want to meet like minded people. Also some of the rooms there are actual old railway carriages

Yelp
We stayed here when we first arrived in Sydney from the UK and to be honest it wasn't a good idea as we couldn't get a good night's sleep for days as there is a night club underneath it, but looking at it objectively it was a great place. It's cheap (naturally) and very clean and secure and has everything you'd want from a hostel. There's also a lots to do and good opportunites to try new things and meet people. The location is great - only a few mins from the most beautiful harbour in the world!
