A Memorable Stay with Historic Charm and Excellent Service We had a great stay at this beautiful location, surrounded by historic landmarks. The free tickets to the abbey were a lovely bonus, and the views from the back of the café were absolutely stunning. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful throughout our visit. After checking in, we noticed a rain leak in our room, but the team responded immediately and moved us to another room without any hassle. Their quick action and warm attitude made our experience even better. Highly recommended!

Our first visit to a YHA with our two young boys who are 7 and 4. Booked a private room with en-suite and ended up with a large and spacious 8 bed dorm room to ourselves. Room had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Hot shower, good heating, clean and comfy beds with reading lights and plenty of hooks/space to hang/store all our luggage. |We made use of the self catering kitchens which were well equipped and a lovely communal space for meeting and chatting to fellow guests. |All staff we encountered were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble.|We had breakfast in the cafe each morning which was very good value as our children ate for just £1. Food was excellent and we enjoyed sitting in the window seat looking out at the wonderful views over Whitby. A great way to start the day. |Location was excellent - we had views of Whitby Abbey from the window (which was illuminated at the time of our stay). Short walk down the 199 steps and you are right in the heart of the old town. Whitby brewery is just round the corner and is a nice place for an evening drink with a good selection of beers - again with great views of the abbey. |All in all - ideal! Thank you for making our first family experience of hostelling such a positive one - we will definitely be back.

Never stayed at a YHA before. £80 for a 4 bed (two bunks) room. Nice and clean and warm with a good sized powerful shower. On site facilities included a great cafe bar. Nice food and had a cozy feel with plenty of seating. Draught lager and a good range of bottles. 'Kids meals' only £1 if adults dine. Nice cooked breakfast again kids £1. There's on site self catering facilities with a dining area. A tv room. The location is amazing. Right next to the abbey. Additional parking available just up the road. Literally all you need. Just a short walk to the 199 steps down into Whitby. Excellent value for money.

I loved staying here, even though going up the 199 steps with luggage can be challenging, it's really worth it. Most atmospheric location in Whitby right next to the Abbey. The staff are really helpful and welcoming, they even give you a free ticket to the Abbey. Bedroom was big with two windows and bedding and rest of facilities were clean. The building is a sort of big old house with lots of common spaces, reading room, kitchen... I loved it.

Called in for Coffee today. Staff were really nice and friendly. The cakes looked amazing but we were put off because there were 3 chaps working there dealing with the food. 2 had long hair and 3 of them had long beards, but not a hair net in sight. We didn’t want to risk it. Sorry.

Good value but basic. £150 for a simple ensuite room. No room furniture apart from the bunk beds. I wish the so-called hot water was actually hot. I would say it is about 35°.Centigrade. I think to avoid legionella disease it needs to be at least 65°C? So be careful not to drink any of the tepid water. Bring your own towel (there’s no towel rai) and photo ID, a copy on your phone will do.

Fabulous hostel in a fabulous location. YHA beds are not the comfiest but that is for practicality and cleaning. Otherwise a lovely place to stay with spectacular views over the town and out to sea from the cafe garden. I felt welcome, and safe whilst travelling on my own.

I came as visiting the Abbey like most people. The cafe offers amazing views if sat outside. It is well worth a visit but coffee is out of a machine and service is okay. The menu is basic and well priced. If you want basic food and somewhere to stay close to Whitby they I would recommend

Yelp
I would have given this place a fraction of a star or no stars if I could have. Avoid this place at all cost!!! I checked in, found they lied to me all this time when they said Wi-Fi throughout; I was told to get the Wi-Fi, sign up to the Cloud (sign up and give Sky marketing all my info, I expect emails and cold calls from Sky and anyone Sky sells that data to, now); The Wi-Fi worked, in the municipal TV room - the only place it worked. As for up in my room, no signal, no internet, nothing. As for the municipal TV room, the TV in there was meant to be Freeview but couldn't get a signal, so the 1 TV for everybody didn't work, so YHA provided a DVD player and a modest selection of DVDs; back to the main issue, I was assured Wi-Fi covered the entire building after booking upon finding out that the rooms don't have TVs in them; that claim was a bald-faced lie, what does this place expect the solo traveler to do in this day and age all night, sit alone with their thoughts, f' that! I am currently in the process of a full refund because I could not use the room I booked; I checked out, told them why, and am waiting for the outcome of if I get a full refund or if I have to sue the YHA for legal costs and the cost of the room which was the same price as a competent hotel in Whitby I ended up using that I should have used for this night all along, so I will update this review pending the outcome of the refund they owe me. The location isn't for those with vertigo or agoraphobia either, because it's on a cliff at the top of the famous 199 Steps; it gets windy up there, the sky is above you, the sea is there and you could see for miles, and it's high up. I was recommended this place by 2 idiots on YouTube on a channel called Travel Beans who seem to be traveling around England using YHAs all the time so are probably in the pay of the YHA, Travel Beans are idiots though, they spoke of a Full Yorkshire Breakfast too at a cafe in Whitby but failed hard when they didn't bother or care to share or divulge the information on which place in Whitby it was, I myself had to do my own detective work to figure out what place it was, so I should have known any business Travel Beans do recommend would be a ripoff and a con and a lie. This is the offending video that suckered me into this place. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gn8TvhwEguM
