We had a great 2 night stay. Brilliant views from the hostel. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. First time doing this as a family and it worked really well. Recommend doing the Orrest Head walk and also getting the walkers ticket which combines walking and ferries around the lake.

First all the positives - it is on an absolutely beautiful site, the views are amazing! The staff have all been so helpful and really go above and beyond. We had the breakfast on the first morning and it was good. Food came out promptly and was well cooked. The kitchen was busy though and we had to wait for coffee, clean cups and cutlery. If you wanted to cook your own there was a fully equipped kitchen in the main building and a smaller kitchen in the separate block for campers. ||We stayed in one of the bell tents and it was spacious and the beds were comfy. The stove was definitely needed due to the weather. ||The main building was mostly clean and any issues were caused by other guests walking grass into the showers.||Now the negatives - our tent was probably past its best or could do with taking down and professionally cleaned and repaired. The zip was held on with cable ties and there were patches of black mould/damp in numerous areas around the tent. One of the beds had marks on the pillow case and the sheet, we stripped this off and used the other beds. ||Parking can be an issue if the site is full.||We had two good nights sleep and then our last night was spoiled by new noisy neighbours. Despite the site having a quiet time after 10pm it was gone 1am before they settled down. We woke up this morning to rubbish having been left out by the new neighbours and had been dragged out by the wildlife. At about 12.30am someone on the site also started banging loudly every few seconds for about 15 minutes. It would be useful for guests to have a mobile number of staff on duty to text or call and let them know there are issues with noise, or on a busy night staff have a walk around and remind campers about the quiet times. ||Sinks in the outside block were slow to drain and the water in the showers was not very warm.||Would this put us off coming back? No, we’ll come back, hopefully next time we won’t have such rowdy campers next door.

Spent two nights here with my partner. Lovely location with stunning views from the room, everything was very tidy (including the common kitchen which was flawless) and the decoration of the common spaces made them feel cosy. Stuart, one of the members of staff, was very kind and courteous. Very affordable and you'd not need for anything if you're not into luxurious stuff. Only downside would be the wifi which was quite poor even at its best - not a massive issue, that's not why one goes to the Lake District! We'll surely recommend and come back.

Shockingly bad stay. I accidentally booked and paid for the room twice. They refused to give me a refund (who stays in a Youth Hostel and doesn't want to save money) but claimed to give me an 'upgrade' - so they weren't fully booked and just being churlish at not refunding one of the double bookings.|It smelled. A light wasn't working. Could barely get out the door of the bedroom as there was so little space with the sink and the bed. The bedroom doors all closed very loudly so got little sleep. The shower which was shared with a corridor (as was the toilet) was absolutely tiny. Resent paying £100 for it once nevermind twice. Nothing good to say about this worn out overpriced place except the two staff that were on were pleasant (the management who couldn't be contacted until after the stay, not so much).

Stayed in the yurt for one night and I was really impressed. Log fire in there so that was cosy, beds were comfy and linen really clean. ||The facilities were great in the main building to games, books, vending machine, bar etc. |Toilets were clean didn't need to use the shower.||Great views of the lake, would 100% stay again!

First time at yha, windermere camping. This is a really great site with good views of the lake and countryside. Good bus connections and just over a mile to Brockholes activity centre. Super campsite or hostel for families, will defo be back.

A great tee-pee stay for three nights. Good facilities and great to arrive with everything set up and ready to go.||Easy to find, decent car parking. Facilities good but shower block often a little muddy. We didn’t try food but did have a few drinks at the bar which was well stocked and moderately priced

Great experience at the hostel which 40 years ago was my first ever youth hostel. Nice to return and how well it is run. Good to see events (bake sale and open mic night ) advertised. Thanks for a great 2nd visit
