Excellent hostel. Excellent value for the money. Only £12 for January per night. Perfect for solo or families. It’s a bit out of the way but it’s an easy 30 minute walk to the city center. Hostel is spotless. Very safe. Groups do not disturb others. Superb self catering kitchen. Even has an oven and coffee presses. There is a small Spar supermarket that is five minutes away. If you arrive early you can store your luggage for free. Way better than the private hostels that are less well run and charge for everything. Hostel accommodated my request for a bottom bunk. Dorm rooms have no chairs so if you’re in a top bunk you have to get dressed standing up. Take the free walking tour of the city that is operated by York volunteers.

Good location and not too far to walk to the city Centre (around 1 mile). Reception Staff were friendly and approachable. Unfortunately the wi-fi only worked in the dining /breakfast room and was pretty non-existent elsewhere in the hostel which was frustrating. Acvomodation slightly on the expensive side for a hostel.

We found the hostel very comfortable and clean. The beds were as good, if not better, than some of the 'posh' hotels we have stayed at. Food and drink were readily available - coffee was great! Self catering was available and a luggage store. It was warm and cosy. Staff were friendly and helpful. I really can't think of anything to fault!!

Basic rooms, very clean. Kids loved being in bunk beds. Our room had private shower and toilet. Short walk into York City centre. Food available was tasty. Spacious lounge area. Everybody was super friendly. We were a little nervous about staying in a hostel rather than a hotel, but YHA was amazing and we would definitely go again as it will give us more opportunities to broaden the children's horizons.

A hidden gem. Just a coffee & teacakes each. Coffees were great. Decaff Americano can often be tasteless but this one was fab. |The grounds look fine and the cafe, bar is really well done.|Not started here and now just typing to get to 200 characters!|Will be back.

The third time we've stayed here as its an ideal base for exploring York on foot, or for staying over after an evening concert. We booked a 4-bedded en suite room as we are in our 70's and neither of us wanted to be in a top bunk. We had the cooked breakfasts but also brought our own tea, coffee, milk and insulated mugs to make hot drinks in the self catering kitchen to take back to the room. The staff were friendly and helpful and everything was clean.

Very welcoming and a fab location, only complaint is that the hostel is open 24 hours and many guests stay out late and noisily come back to their room, keeping others awake. Cue lots of door banging, loud chatting/laughter etc. So I'd say a lovely hostel with a great vibe, but probably not for families or those wanting to get a full night of sleep. Of course, we might have just been unlucky (we only stayed one night - Sat), but I'd pack your earplugs just in case ;-)

I stayed at a great hostel and booked a private dorm for £60 per night. It was conveniently located just a 15-minute walk along the river to the city centre. Since it was my first time staying at a hostel, I was pleasantly surprised by the experience. The food was nice, and overall, I had a wonderful time.
