YHA are traditionally out of town, good location. Bus 2 takes you into town, or it's a 30 min walk into town - go along the river. We had a private room for 5, spacious, could have done with some chairs and a table (plenty of space)? We were near the kitchen, we could comfortably cook and eat in kitchen or common area. Fairly well appointed small kitchen, pots pans cutlery etc and working stoves. Good bar and food area if you didn't cater for yourself. Great stay, plenty of families doing similar to our party of 5.

Amazing place to stay ✨️ Fantastic welcome and information at check-in. Room was spotless and the self-catering facilities are impressive. Lovely bright comfortable shared space with lovely areas to sit and eat, indoors and outside. We will definitely be back! A huge thank you for running such a lovely safe space for families who need to self-catering. Location was perfect too.

Room was ok, although there were snorers and bright lights from outside which disturbed my sleep. I added cheesy chips to my salad for evening meal. At £5.95 I was expecting a large portion. To say I was very dissatisfied is an understatement. They were barely edible and were less than a handful of oven chips with a very small lump of rubber yellow stuff on top. As for breakfast I shouldn’t have bothered. I arrived just as they opened to find burnt sausages with zero flavour. Bacon so hard it was inedible beans again no taste eggs hard bananas way past edible, black and squishy inside. Overall a very disappointing experience. Woukd not recommend spending £10:95 on it

Brilliant stay at YHA York |We had the en-suite sleep 6 room for our family of three. It was perfect with loads of space and a great shower. |Staff were amazing, so friendly and helpful will define returning to this wonderful city.

A bit out of town but a nice manageable walk through quiet neighbourhoods and a beautiful park to get to the city centre. Food offerings on site looked good, prices quite high for both accomodation and f&b. Self catering option on site to make meals was appreciated and well used.

This is our second visit, The outstanding point about this YHA is the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Not just to us but every interaction I witnessed was cheerful and welcoming. The room was immaculate, in the past we have had a lovely breakfast. We found it an easy walk into the historic city centre, either through residential streets or along the river bank.

Good value, but the private room (room TA02 or 03) was extremely hot. The window couldn’t be opened more than a crack, so I boiled in the night. When I mentioned this to the front of desk, they said sorry but that it was known to be a hot room. ||If it’s known to be a hot room, they should leave a fan in there or at least open the window further than a crack.||I did email to let them know I wasn’t happy about it, but didn’t get a response.

Staying here for a long weekend with my teenage son m managed to lock ourselves out of the room, he went to reception and they sorted it straight away. Continental breakfast was very good but sticky tables....🤔 The water refill point was very very wet and nearly slipped up. The food is good, but the rooms are looking shabby. The mattress is quite thin and difficult to sleep. We have stayed lots of times before and it has declined. The doors are heavy to move, especially when you have a mild disability. The staff are, as always, very friendly.
