Drove 2 hours from the USA to try the Chang Fen. First time there ate in, store was cramped, loud, elbow to elbow, every table full, people waiting for a table. Paper menu outdated and didn't have all the listings so wasn't able to try everything. Since then used the app to order and picked up to take home.
Far better than anything that we can get here, which will have far fewer options with much smaller portion for much higher price. Everyone in Canada complaining is basically spoiled with such good options.
Veg Chang Fen options include:
Plain, Egg (if you eat egg), Veg, HK Style (which is plain with the peanut/soy sauce), Sweet Corn, Dough Stick, King Mushroom, Olive Veg.
The Dough Stick Chang Fen strikes me as a culinary monstrosity, similar to our Chicken and Waffles here. Two products which taste fine on their own mashed together to taste about the same (or slightly worse) together. In general recommend only the Chang Fen with stuffing inside, so Veg, Corn, Mushroom. The olive veg is just specks of something on plain which really doesn't add much flavor or uniqueness. Same with egg. Dough stick should be eaten there and not taken out, as with all fried foods, don't taste as good after they sit awhile. I can confirm the Chang Fen can be frozen and thawed and still taste decent. The app works well to save time on ordering. Suggest they add a veg congee, since plain congee anyone can make at home. If they opened a branch in Western NY, would be swamped with customers!
