Ylang Ylang Beach Resort, Montezuma, Costa Rica - Explore & Book

"On the tip of the Nicoya peninsula, just 15 minutes' walk from bohemian backpacker mecca Montezuma is this tranquil resort, set in lush foliage on a white sandy beach. Ylang Ylang is backed by a pristine rainforest reserve, with more coves and long unspoilt beaches to explore nearby. There's a mix of rustic accommodation – 23 dome-shaped bungalows with balconies, simple cabinas, beachside family rooms – most with fabulous views of the ocean. The friendly restaurant serves delicious unpretentious fare, which makes the most of the local seafood and tropical fruit and vegetables. We definitely recommend the cocktails. The verdant grounds also contain a lovely shaded swimming pool, a small spa and plenty of wildlife, which obligingly present themselves even when you're horizontal on hammock or lounger. Talking of wildlife, visit nearby Cabo Blanco or Curú nature reserves for monkeys, stunning birdlife, iguanas and more, or take a boat trip in whale-watching season. For the actively minded, go horse-riding, take surf lessons or hike to waterfalls. Conversely just sprawl out on the beach and wait for happy hour. An absolute highlight of our time in Costa Rica. Highs A stunning beachside settingGood value especially for families (breakfast and dinner are included in the rates)The restaurant and bar serve delicious Pacific Rim-inspired meals and a good range of cocktails and smoothiesFriendly laid-back staff who can arrange all excursions and activities for youPlenty to entertain you: a lovely pool, the beach, daily yoga classes to the sound of the sea in the studio, massages in the spa and abundant wildlife Lows On arrival you'll have to wait in Montezuma for the 4WD shuttle service to bring you and your luggage along the beach; if self-driving park in Montezuma otherwise your car will likely get stuck in the sand (there isn't a paved road to the resort)The hotel beach isn't suitable for swimming due to submerged rocks and strong wavesRooms are rustic and quirky, but beautifully situatedYou're likely to find wildlife in unexpected placesPopular so book ahead" - Nadine Mellor

On the beach resort with peaceful setti g and no nonsence service. Friendly staff good ammenities killer views from the restaurant and goga studio. We had a women's yoga retreat here and I could not have had better location for this. Short dustance to the town and a few attractions. This is a hidden gem for quiet traveller. The name of the place is from many ylang ylang treas on the grounds that make the evening meal enchanted with the smell. If just visiting along the beach stop by fo a fantastic food. Montezuma seafood grill combo is awesome!

We were blown away by the friendly staff giving us transits, serving us breakfast/dinner, and the atmosphere! Specifically we enjoyed getting to briefly know Alex, Patricia, and Francesco and their great kindness and hospitality. My wife and I will never have as fresh of fruit or fruit juice ever again and the meals themselves were very healthy while appetizing as well. Bugs were not bad at all and coming during the rainy season was not a hindrance for our weeklong stay. Just be ready for a long transit day since it is off the beaten trail!

We're just home from the most amazing stay at Ylang Ylang. My wife and I were in desperate need of a vacation after a very hard year, and Ylang Ylang could not have been more perfect. The grounds and facilities are amazing, but what truly made it exceptional was the staff. To a person, everyone who works at Ylang Ylang was genuinely friendly, kind and helpful. |We spent half of our stay in a beach side bungalow, and the other in the tree top cabin. Both were unique and special in their own way, and we'd recommend either without hesitation for an amazing stay. |The food was excellent as well. Everything was fresh and beautifully prepared, and there was plenty of variety to choose from.|We also purchased the adventure package through Ylang Ylang, which included a massage at the onsite spa; a day trip to Tortuga Island for snorkeling and lunch; and another morning of ziplining in the nearby forest. The latter two were provided by third parties. The massages and the trip to Tortuga Island were fantastic. The ziplining was less enthralling due to being added to an enormous group and needing to wait 15-20 minutes at every station (there are 8 total). In hindsight we would've opted for the horseback riding, which was also an option, instead.|Overall we'd highly recommend staying at Ylang Ylang, and we will certainly be going back ourselves ASAP.

Excellent resort in Montezuma. Gives you a real break. The bungalows near the beach with the constant sound of waves from the Pacific is refreshing (though may get a little too much for those light sleepers at night). The price though expensive included breakfast and dinner. The choices for food was excellent with vegetarian, vegan choices included. Service was excellent as well.

I cannot say enough, how wonderful this resort is! Everything was handled with perfection from our transportation, to our excursions, meals and room. The resort itself is absolutely beautiful surrounded by lush, tropical trees, plants, flowers, and just steps from the beach. The staff made us feel like family and when we had to leave there were many hugs goodbye. The food was amazing with so many different choices each one delicious! If you want to disconnect from everyday chaos, relax, re-energize and be in a beautiful setting around genuinely wonderful people then this the place for you!

This place is a unique experience that may not be for everyone. The jungle atmosphere and beach views are incredible. There were monkeys, birds and reptiles everywhere. The staff did a great job and very accommodating. Meals were very good and the views at dinner were great. We didn't see anyone in the water off the beach I think due to the large waves hitting the rocks. The sand is pretty soft and kind of grainy but not bad. The only downside would be for anyone with mobility issues. It can be a decent walk to your accomodations up and down some small hills. Also the walk to town is not for everyone, but a shout-out to Eric for his shuttle services. This place would be great for couples wanting to disconnect from thing with limited distractions. Overall we had a great time.

We were there during rainy season, almost had the whole resort to ourselves. They were only three other groups. Staff was very friendly, food was good, rooms were clean and nice. This is very small complaint but I wish they offered boogie boards or surfboards on the premises for rental.

We chose Ylang Ylang for our (one year late) honeymoon and it was everything we could ever ask for. We are both vegan, so we started our search for vegan friendly resorts and countries, and Ylang Ylang fit the bill perfectly! ||The biggest kudos I have to give is to the staff, especially the restaurant staff. My husband and I are both kind of awkward, but they took great care of us while also interacting with us as people. We took a special liking to Franschesco and were so happy when he was our server for our private dinner the last night! But there wasn’t a single staff member that was nothing short of warm and friendly to us. We both legitimately cried at our last dinner and while packing up to check out because of how grateful we were to everyone and how peaceful our stay was. The food was also so delicious and fresh; we love to eat and were always left satisfied!||We stayed in a Cabina for the first half of the trip and the Tree Top Canopy for the second half! Both rooms were so clean (we loved all the towel shapes!) and we had no issues with bugs. Yes, they are around, but you’re also partially in the jungle, and quite honestly I got much less bug bites in a week than I normally get in a single night outside in NY! It was also really nice not having a TV in the rooms. It made us spend more time out and about on the property and also made the room our relaxing place to nap in the AC, lol. The entire property is absolutely beautiful and you can tell that they take pride in their grounds as well as in their conscious effort to be environmentally friendly. Native animals roam the property not because they’re trained to or because they know they’ll get human food (although I’m sure it happens by accident sometimes), but because they feel safe in their habitat! We are huge animal lovers so we never got tired of seeing them, nor the two cute kitties that recently chose Ylang Ylang as their home :)||We booked the zipline tour, Curú wildlife tour, and Cabuya sunset tour through Ylang Ylang - the front desk was always so helpful in giving information about each and we had no issues. We also booked transportation to and from Cobano airport through them. All of the tours and experiences were amazing as well and we need to come back to do the other ones as well as experience the spa and yoga :) the prices really don’t differ too much from booking directly through the partner providers, so it was nice to just be able to do it all in one place. The town is also super safe and we got to experience some local events since it was Mother’s Day during our trip! ||This was our first time in Costa Rica (also our first actual relaxing vacation together after almost 8 years) and we are already trying to plan when we can come back. We miss everyone already!!!
