"On the tip of the Nicoya peninsula, just 15 minutes' walk from bohemian backpacker mecca Montezuma is this tranquil resort, set in lush foliage on a white sandy beach. Ylang Ylang is backed by a pristine rainforest reserve, with more coves and long unspoilt beaches to explore nearby. There's a mix of rustic accommodation – 23 dome-shaped bungalows with balconies, simple cabinas, beachside family rooms – most with fabulous views of the ocean. The friendly restaurant serves delicious unpretentious fare, which makes the most of the local seafood and tropical fruit and vegetables. We definitely recommend the cocktails. The verdant grounds also contain a lovely shaded swimming pool, a small spa and plenty of wildlife, which obligingly present themselves even when you're horizontal on hammock or lounger. Talking of wildlife, visit nearby Cabo Blanco or Curú nature reserves for monkeys, stunning birdlife, iguanas and more, or take a boat trip in whale-watching season. For the actively minded, go horse-riding, take surf lessons or hike to waterfalls. Conversely just sprawl out on the beach and wait for happy hour. An absolute highlight of our time in Costa Rica. My husband and I stayed here March 2025 and booked a return visit with our kids before we left. We LOVED our time here. This trip included a New Year celebration that was relaxing, fun, and memorable! We love the staff at Ylang Ylang… we feel sad leaving them, like they are part of the family. Accommodations are lovely, grounds are beautiful, pool was great, ocean is right out the door… I could go on and on! We also love the cuisine!!!

A Hidden Gem That Keeps Us Coming Back We've returned to Ylang Ylang several times now, and it never disappoints. This boutique resort has something truly special that the larger resorts simply can't replicate – an intimate charm that genuinely feels like vacation from the moment you arrive. The food deserves special mention. As a family with vegan dietary needs, we're often concerned about options, but Ylang Ylang went above and beyond with creative, delicious plant-based dishes that everyone in our family loved. The culinary experience alone would be worth the trip. What really sets this place apart is the service and the owners' dedication. They're present, engaged, and constantly making thoughtful improvements. You can feel the care they put into every detail. The holiday season is particularly magical here – they host wonderful celebrations complete with live music and an impressive fire show that's become a highlight of our trips. Don't let the smaller size fool you. Yes, the pool is more intimate than what you'd find at mega-resorts, but it's beautifully decorated with lush jungle foliage and provides a welcome respite from the beach sun. The true magic of Ylang Ylang is its location. You could easily fill an entire week without booking a single paid excursion. Multiple beaches are within walking distance, incredible hiking trails await exploration, volcanic rocks teeming with crabs, stunning waterfalls including the famous Montezuma Falls – it's all right there. The town of Montezuma itself is about a 10-minute walk and has its own delightful character. Surfing opportunities abound for those interested. If you're looking for an authentic Costa Rican experience with exceptional hospitality, outstanding food, and endless natural beauty at your doorstep, Ylang Ylang is the place. We'll definitely be back again.

This was one of our best family vacations ever - my wife and I and our two grown daughters (19 and 22) !! The location is unbelievable - Pacific waves crashing on the shore just a tiny distance form our cabins, the restaurant and yoga studio overlooking the beach, howler monkeys in the distance, iguanas and capuchin monkeys everywhere, fantastic beaches a short walk away. The food on site and the service was fantastic. Everyone was so nice and helpful. The nearby excursions that we did (surfing lessons, Tortuga Island, Tambor Bay sunset) were all wonderful. The on-site spa was great with therapeutic deep tissue massages. The nearby town of Montezuma (a short walk away) is quaint and charming. There was even a turtle hatchery just nearby where we witnessed newly hatched turtles making their way to the ocean. We would definitely come back. I can't recommend this place enough. |Pro Tip: We took the easy short flight from San Jose to Cobano airport to avoid the long drive to the remote location. No rental car needed as the Resort can handle all of your transport needs.

Ylang ylang is perfect. Absolutely perfect. There is not a thing I would change. The food is excellent. The pool is like a dream, set in a jungle with animal all around. Our children were entertained by capuchins and howler monkeys around the pool everyday. The staff are incredibly nice and always helpful. Best place I've ever stayed! Ylang Ylang was by far our favorite spot in Costa Rica, and we loved our whole trip. The hotel is so chill, our room was so comfortable and the common areas were just right. Don’t even know where to start with our staff praises. Saray was always going out of her way to make us feel home and cared for. Patri and Franshesco kept us full and happy around the clock, always with the biggest smiles. The food was so good that we just wished we had more time to try everything. The freedom to reach town so easily, while still being on a little jungle bubble was unparalleled. Non related but make sure to stop by ASVO to see if any turtles are hatching. Say Hi to Ricardo from us. Watching the turtles heading to the water for the first time was so humbling. We just stumbled upon the opportunity on our way to town. Can’t say enough good things about that little piece of heaven that is Montezuma. When there (not if) Ylang Ylang will always be the place we lay our heads

On the beach resort with peaceful setti g and no nonsence service. Friendly staff good ammenities killer views from the restaurant and goga studio. We had a women's yoga retreat here and I could not have had better location for this. Short dustance to the town and a few attractions. This is a hidden gem for quiet traveller. The name of the place is from many ylang ylang treas on the grounds that make the evening meal enchanted with the smell. If just visiting along the beach stop by fo a fantastic food. Montezuma seafood grill combo is awesome!

The fact that this was our third time at Ylang Ylang probably says it all! The setting is magnificent. We could walk on beach, swim in the lovely pool or on the beach, or just relax and watch the monkeys dance through the canopy of trees above our cabaña. The staff are efficient and friendly; we particularly enjoyed the creatures room service staff would create for us from towels and flowers each morning after cleaning our cabaña. We'll be back.
