This hotel is about a 3-minute walk to the Hawaii Convention Center. Upon first arriving, it looks a bit run down. The rooms are bare bones but fully functional. When I first checked in the lights in my room did not work. The desk clerk immediately put maintenance on it the next morning. (I had checked in late in the evening.) The place is clean, everything in the bathroom works well, and the bed is comfortable. The staff is friendly and efficient. There is a comfortable outdoor patio for relaxing, reading, etc. Be aware that there is no air conditioning, so you have to keep the windows open, and there is a LOT of street noise, especially motorcycles. My room faced Atkinson Ave with its tall buildings, which I think concentrated the noise. Possibly a room facing the back of the building could be quieter. The other residents are mostly old, somewhat disabled, or down and out, but they are all friendly. The YMCA does a criminal and sex registry background check when you make the reservation. The building is secure, and smoking and alcohol possession are prohibited. Across the street is the large Ala Moana shopping center with food courts, shops, and major stores, including a Target. Overall, the YMCA residences is a safe, comfortable, and inexpensive place to stay.

You get what you pay for. It’s not glamorous, it’s nothing special. The staff is very nice. It’s a bed if you don’t wanna spend stupid money somewhere else. It’s clean and does the job. And the food trucks out front are amazing!

This place shouldn't be looked at as an average hotel. This is history. This is the community. People who work here are very nice and strive to keep it going. Yes - rooms are old. But come on - this is probably the cheapest accommodation in the center of Honolulu. I'm giving five stars for the effort of the workers. From the tourist perspective - it was good for an overnight layover stay. Wouldn't stay for lengthy periods.

Don’t go there, never ever. It was a shared restroom but they never mentioned in the website. Then i spend extra money to get a room with “private” restroom. It was that much private that even there were no curtain between the restroom and your room. No air conditioning. Bad smell all over the hotel. Never ever go there

Absolutely horrid place, horrible staff, horrible management, horrid place to stay. Bathrooms have mold, the place is falling apart, the staff treat you as if you’re staying at a homeless shelter. When bringing up issues to management they do absolutely nothing and brush things off. I would give this place negative 10 stars if I could. I will be reaching out to senior authority the directors head for an explanation on the conditions and the employees that work here. Save your money and go anywhere else. Staying at this high priced psych ward/ homeless shelter is not worth your energy or money! STAY AWAY

Because I knew what I was expecting with the only room amenities being wifi and a fan, I was not disappointed. For future guests, this is a YMCA residence, not a hostel or motel. The building is older but it’s easy to get around from your room to the front desk. I actually preferred the no alcohol policy of the establishment because I’m in recovery (almost 6 years sober!).Just be prepared for a humid, hot night with a fan to cool you down. The only AC that I was shown was in sort of a day room area which was always open.

The studio is haunted you experience a lot of ghosts there's a lot of possessed people there too at night time you're here a lot of screaming and banging on the doors and the curtains go back and forth without no win if you like ghosts I recommend this otherwise you should find a safer place to stay
