Not to be missed! Stayed here for family reunion. Great option as a destination for family reunions because it's affordable, plenty of fun and family friendly activities onsite, variety of lodging options, and the ranch offers breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Snow Mountain Ranch is nestled on 5100 acres. About 2 hour drive north of Denver, CO and roughly 7.5 hours east driving from Salt Lake City, UT.
We had a few rooms reserved for our group in the Silversage Lodge, 24 people total. There's yurts, campsites, and also cabins available. The lodges are similar to hotel setup with rooms. It's a cozy older ski lodge type feel, it's not new or updated but it comes with a fridge, microwave and shower/tub. Decent pressure and hot water. The room my family stayed in comes with a queen bed, and 2 bunk beds that can sleep up to 6 people in a room. I liked how I could be outdoors all day but still sleep on a bed, have access to hot water, and be fed a hot meal at end of the day outside.
There is a foyer in the lodge so it was a good meetup spot for our reunion to congregate. There is no AC in the rooms but they do have fans and the weather wasn't hot in July, usually it was cool in evenings. Nice to smell the fresh mountain air and listen to the birds in the morning.
The lodge is walking distance to the dining hall. We hiked trails, did swimming, mini golf, roller skate, pool/air hockey, arts and crafts, rock climbing, tubing downhill. The Kiva activity center offered roller skating on a wood floor, basketball, volleyball, badminton, ping pong, foosball, pool table, air hockey. Most of the activities are included with the stay but some activities you have to reserve the activity time in advance such as the tubing downhill. The hiking trails are private to the YMCA and they are well maintained trails.
We did pay extra for arts and crafts but they are very reasonable prices, you can do things like mosaics, ceramics painting, and small leather projects. Kids love this and it's great to walk over from the lodge to the craft center and work together on a craft with them.
The lodges don't have TV but you can bring your electronics and there's Wi-Fi if you wanted to watch a show during your downtime. Would be nice if there were hottubs on site but the ranch is more of a summer camp experience than a ski resort experience.
Not having to worry about cooking and cleanup for a large group of people was a huge plus! The dining hall does cafeteria style/buffet meals. Nothing fancy but it's a meal and you get fed, all you can eat with unlimited drinks, so we'd show up, grab our food and sit down together as a family. The menu rotates daily, so you can get 3 hot meals each day. Definitely 5 stars and a gem of a location. The staff is mostly young people working for the season. They were always at work, keeping things organized and clean and represent very well the YMCA mission of building community and togetherness.
It was a great stay for our group! Highly recommend and would consider returning.
