How to Plan a Ski Trip to Red Lodge Mountain, Montana

This place is absolutely charming. The location is right between downtown and the road to the ski resort. The host is kind, polite, and helpful. The rooms are well kept and clean. It has been updated. It appears that any original finishes that were in good shape were left in place, which I feel adds to the charm. I am a nostalgic person. The outdoor hot tub was fantastic, indoor hot tubs are too humid for me. The host even brought us extra towels while we were soaking. The rooms had all the amenities you need, tv, fridge, microwave, coffee pot, hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and a makeup towel. The beds were comfortable. We really loved it and will stay again.

A group of seven of us rolled into red lodge on a ski trip through Montana. We decided on the Yoedler as we came into town. It could not have been a better experience. The owner AJ was so accommodating and got 7 rooms for us. It was such a great experience to have a host that was excited to have you there. It is within walking distance to all the bars and restaurants plus a short drive to the ski resort. The hotel and rooms are clean and have a great mid century skier decor. I would recommend and will for sure be back.

Very unique historic motel. Very comfy, clean and cozy. Location is ideal for walking around Red Lodge and easy access to the ski hill. Our dogs were welcomed and enjoyed it also.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Yodeler with my husband, and it was a delightful experience! If you are looking for a unique, clean, cozy, and authentic place to stay with great service and location, look no further! The Yodeler has unmistakable charm that sets it apart from your typical chain hotel. My husband and I are loyal Hilton guests, and this hotel is like a breath of fresh air from the chains. The Bavarian-inspired design gives it character for a memorable stay along with the amazing history. Our room was spacious, cozy and clean with soft linens and a wonderful series of ski inspired photography and stained glass. We booked the jacuzzi tub room, which was perfect for sore muscles. The hot tub is an added bonus as well! The location is perfect, conveniently close to the downtown near shops and amazing restaurants, we walked only a couple of blocks and were right there! The new owner at the Yodeler was friendly, accommodating, and gave amazing recommendations for local restaurants and adventures! You can tell he takes pride in the motel, and truly cares about his guest's experience. Whether you're into skiing, hiking, or location, the Yodeler makes a great home base for any adventure! We will be back!

Google
I love this place. It has this beautiful charm that makes it so inviting. The staff is super nice and super attentive. And it’s close yo the turn off for skiing. I would visit Yodeler a million times out of a million times. And they have destination chargers for EV’s too. Thank you to the staff that is so cool.

Google
Just stayed the night at the Yodeler and had an excellent time. The property is so cool, and really gives you the feeling of a mountain lodge. We were greeted by at check-in and discovered that the property is under new ownership. The innkeeper clearly has a passion for the area and preserving what is great about this historic property while also having some exciting plans for the future. Can’t wait to come back and visit this winter and use the wax room before hitting the slopes!

Google
Mac & Tulsa are the best host ever. They own and run the Historic Yodeler. Super friendly and down to earth. Gave us directions when Google Maps failed us. Also gave us good food recommendations. We only stayed for 1 night but it was wonderful. The atmosphere was delightful and our room was super comfy with a jacuzzi spa! We will definitely be back and stay here again. Can't wait to visit again!

Jacquelyn Rowland

Google
The staff here are lovely and the rooms are great too! No complaints, and I would highly recommend, especially for a ski trip. The decor is sure to get you in the mood to hit the slopes

Yelp
This historic property is now a great little motel. Still trying to recover from the flood a couple of years ago, the rooms that are open are up a few steps from the street and have both a front and a back door. Easily accessible from the parking lot, which makes loading and unloading your vehicle super easy. All the modern amenities plus some quirky things are here in these super clean and quiet rooms. Just a nice small town place to start or end a trip on the Beartooth.

Linda M.

Yelp
nice cozy place with great staff. loved that they had chargers for ev vehicles. Definitely recommend staying here.

Justin W.

Yelp
This place was absolutely amazing. The new owner AJ was extremely nice and accommodating. My dad and I were riding through Red Lodge on our way to Sturgis and we had an awesome experience. From the ease of unloading my bags right in front of my room to the bike wash that they had in sight, I will DEFINITELY be visiting The Yodeler Motel again! Red Lodge is a must visit town on the way to Beartooth Highway!

Ryna D.

Yelp
Nothing much to write home about. Red Lodge was another pit stop during our road trip and we stayed here one night between Sheridan and Jackson Hole. They've got a Tesla charger on site which made it super convenient for us.

Amy H.

Yelp
Don't even call another hotel, this is the one to stay at! Beautiful, clean rooms with front and back porches. Dog friendly and lets not forget the steam shower (my favorite!!). Super friendly and helpful owners (a hardworking, local couple.) Let the Yodeler be your Basecamp for adventure. We did and got 30" of snow at red lodge! Every time I'm in red lodge, the Yodeler is my home away from home. As always, thanks for the hospitality!

David R.

Yelp
This is my first ever Yelp review. I just felt compelled to submit a review because they far exceeded expectations. I just needed a pillow to sleep on but they provided a very comfortable, quiet, rustic room. The owners we very friendly and accomodating. I can't say enough, this is the place to stay in Red Lodge!

Irina V.

Yelp
How cute is this Bavarian-themed inn? Now this lodge is not your ordinary lodge. It is actually a Historic place. In 1909 this lodge was actually apartments for European families who worked in this area. We stayed in one of their lower level rooms. You first walk into a small kitchen that has everything you would need to prepare a meal for your family. This makes traveling with kids a whole lot easier and cheaper since you can have breakfast and dinner at the place you are staying at. The main room had 2 queen beds and the separate bedroom had a queen size bed which was very comfortable for our family of six. The location was great since we were planning to explore Yellowstone National Park. The fact that Yodeler Motel Red Lodge is so close to the Wyoming border, makes this a very coinvent location.

Janet C.

Yelp
The room was clean but overpriced. It was a cool night and the boiler heat was turned off. They did provide a radiant heater after we complained. Coffee was offered in the morning but for the price, I expected a continental breakfast to be included. The internet was spotty enough to be useless. Streaming the roku channel was a series of buffering.

Kristin M.

Yelp
This was such a wonderful weekend with family! The owners were very accommodating. The Steam shower was incredible. Highly recommended.

Darin B.

Yelp
I didn't actually end up staying here but I'm giving them five stars for their customer service. I had two interactions with them: On the phone with the owner when I made the reservations and then via e-mail when a problem arose and I was not able to reach their hotel due to a road closure. I made a reservation here as part of a 30+ day cross-country trip--this would be our hotel as we exited Yellowstone. I called and spoke with the owner about getting two rooms and he suggested instead I rent his larger family room, which would have worked perfectly for us at a greatly reduced cost. We spoke about COVID-19 and I was (and still am) thoroughly convinced that he took it very seriously and was doing everything possible to keep the rooms and property safe. This in in Montara/Wyoming in August of 2020--not big mask wearing country so his attitude stood out quite positively. Note, I stay at 40+ hotel rooms a year on my travels so I'm not a newbie at this. On this particular trip I observed very few hotels really observing basic Covid protocols--you might get a desk clerk wearing, or partially wearing a mask but the cleaning staff likely will not, etc. With Yodeler I was very confident that they were indeed doing the right thing. Then the problem. Customer Service really shows it colors when problems arise and the bare truth is always revealed when they are losing money. In my case road work on a mountain pass blocked our progress toward the Red Lodge as we came out of Yellowstone and we were forced to stay in Cooke City. There was no cell phone signal so I e-mailed the hotel, told them what had happened. Their response was direct and to the point--they would unhesitatingly refund our money. No back and forth, no hesitation, just good customer service. This is a family-owned operation, not a run down chain franchise or a corporate behemoth. I wish we could have stayed there and on our next trip through the area we will.

Yelp
Wow! The best place, bar none, to stay in Red Lodge! From.the moment you check in at the desk! The owner is there to greet you! The room we had for the several days of the motorcycle rally was great, felt like home! We always had clean towels and the room.was constantly serviced, these folks really care about their clients. The property was immaculate, all the landscape was groomed beautifully. There is a ski wax room for winter sports visitors, motorcycle wash for the bikes in the summer! The balcony porch was great for relaxing in the evenings and watching the world of Red Lodge go by! Fridge with freezer in the room and microwave made the stay , with a stop at the local supermarket, a fun way to enjoy the room.and save money! Flat screen TV with access to all the channels kept us up on local and world events, plenty of electric plugs, and great wifi access. If I sound enthusiastic about this place I am! We have been vacationing over a month, staying at LOTS of motels, and this was, and is THE BEST! By all means, go, stay and enjoy!

Chris B.

Yelp
The marquee says "Montana spoken here." I asked the owner, Tulsa, what that means and she said it means English and said it was a joke. If English is not your first language, I would not stay at this motel. There also is a sign that masks are required at all times, yet she checked in a couple just before me who had no masks. She didn't mention it to them. She was so friendly before and while checking in, but then, after presumably getting my money, she acted like I was invisible. The room was ok; however, there was no shampoo in the shampoo dispenser and the amenities were sparse.

Ac B.

Yelp
I love The Yodeler! It is such a comfortable welcoming place. I stayed there for about a week years ago and was so happy to find a room there again. The rooms are spacious, the beds comfortable, the staff is lovely. Everything about The Yodeler charms me. They have updated the decor a bit and it lost none of it's charm. Go Yodeler! Both times I have been have been in June.

Lori R.

Yelp
Great rooms. Great people. Excellent stay! Very clean and close to everything! Pet friendly is a must for me!

Scott C.

Yelp
Neat place. Older but clean and comfortable. My dog made it cost $5 extra, which is reasonable. Friendly front desk. Also, you have to try the in-room steam shower. Wow. For realz. If it's too hot, just turn in the cold shower while the steam deal is doing its thing. Also, it's walking distance to everything except maybe Red Lodge Ales.

Mike L.

Yelp
Love this place, stayed here years ago and loved it and again this past week and again was reminded why we love it so much. So much pride and care is put into the cleanliness, care and small details (bike wash, ski wax area, ski rags in the rooms, pet friendly). The steam showers are amazing and the hot tub a friendly place to tell stories from the ski hill. Great location and the owner Mac treats you like he has known you all his life.

Chris C.

Yelp
I made a reservation over the phone for one of their premier rooms weeks before I arrived. When I arrived, there was no reservation and the reason stated was because the girl who took the reservation was fired for not obtaining credit card info. The male owner said he would make it right, but he CERTAINLY DID NOT!! When I got back from dinner, I received a handicap-type room and the smallest room they had. He gave me a lower price, but that basement room was not even worth that! The female owner was at the desk when I came from dinner and she was as haughty and snide as the year before when I stayed at the Yodeler. I came back to stay in an upper room...the only reason I had come back. In 2020, I noticed she was so very nice to the white group ahead of me. I came up as friendly as I always am and was given a very cold reception. I look Hispanic...would that be the reason for the cold reception? They did have "We speak Montana here," which she explained meant English. This year, again, the white couple received smiles and courteous service. I received a haughty attitude; when I came into the lobby asking about wifi, again, I was greeted with haughtiness and condescension. I can't say for sure this woman is a racist because I am not in her head, BUT two years in a row, I get this negative attitude when I was always smiling and courteous and the white customers receive a much better attitude and service. IF YOU ARE PERSON OF COLOR OR SYMPATHIZE WITH PEOPLE OF COLOR in this country, I WOULD NOT stay at this motel. And, BTW, last year there was no shampoo in the container in my bathroom and this year the tub had cracks in it and one of the window fans did not work.

Taylor B.

Yelp
Super friendly and attentive front desk staff! The room was fantastic with such character! Loved it! Nice little balcony to sit and watch Main Street traffic, we walked into town for dinner and breakfast the next morning! Comfortable king size bed and clean!

Hilary H.

Yelp
Our favorite place to stay when we come to ski! The owners are so friendly, and very accommodating. Our furry family members are always welcomed with open arms. Rooms are always very clean and upgrades seem to be made yearly. Plus the steam shower rooms are AMAZING!

Barbara S.

Yelp
Old-fashioned and friendly. The official greeters a German Shepard (Shackleton) and cat (Sawtooth) make you feel right at home. Just on the edge of downtown Red Lodge, it's a convenient walk to all the retail and restaurants but away from the noise -- when and if there is any. On Broadway (Main Street) and clear shot to Red Lodge skiing and road to Yellowstone and the most scenic drive over Beartooth Pass through the Beartooth Mountains! Incredible. The motel rooms are large and comfortable. Great rooms for families or groups -- ask. Flat screen TV and in-room steam bath in some -- this is a real plus at the end of a long day. I am very easy to please and when things are right I'm happy. This is not upscale and chic but really pleasant and everyone was smiling. I would stay here again. Ski Wax Room. Lower level rooms have kitchenettes. Upper level also have in-room coffeemaker, microwave and fridge. Big fireplace in the lobby nice and toasty when the snow falls. BTW - for those of you in Northern California looking for a quick escape - Allegiant Air has new nonstop flights from Oakland to Billings and Bozeman. Cheap!

Meghan G.

Yelp
Yodeler Motel was awesome. Great downtown location with a funky mountain/ski lodge vibe. Rooms were clean and comfortable, and the in-room steam bath shower was amazing! The owner who checked us in was friendly and knowledgeable, happy to answer all our questions. I definitely recommend this spot!

Susan B.

Yelp
This motel was perfect for our group. It was clean and had so many extras. For me personally, what I liked best was that outside our room was a hose and buckets where we could wash our motorcycles. I would recommend this motel to all.

Regina T.

Yelp
The Yodeler is, by far, our favorite place to stay in Red Lodge! The rooms are reasonably priced and always clean, with plenty of hooks for ski gear (and most come equipped with a steam shower). The lobby is perfectly quaint: full of plants, good coffee, friendly people, and the owners' adorable German Shepherd (if you're lucky). It is also conveniently located within walking distance of downtown! I would HIGHLY recommend.

Carrie P.

Yelp
This is our second time staying at the Yodeler in The Red Lodge and we will continue to stay here on future ski trips. The rooms are very comfortable and roomy. There are full amenities including microwave, refrigerator, and coffee maker. A smart TV which makes it easy to log into personal streaming services. The first year we stayed we had a steam shower in the room which was incredible after a long day on the slopes. The ski area is very close and there are many great places to eat within walking distance of the motel. There is also a wax room available to guests which we utilized our first year staying here. It was awesome having a place to tune up our boards at our motel. The owner is very friendly and helpful and always asks us about our stay and gives us tips or advice about conditions on the mountain. Both times we stayed were late check ins and they were very accommodating putting a lockbox on the door with our key for an easy check in. The rooms were also very clean both times we stayed. We can't wait to come back!

Dylana E B.

Yelp
The rooms were spacious and comfortable beds. Well maintained and really cool decor. Friendly owner who was there to help and make suggestions. The in-room steam bath was amazing. Everything we needed was available. Short stroll over to the creek and to main part of town for eating.

Dan C.

Yelp
Perhaps the best deal in Red Lodge. This motel is more like a boutique lodge, clean and cozy. Caters well to motorcyclists with bike washing materials. very well maintained and everything you can want!

Kathy P.

Yelp
Amazing! this is our new favorite place. My daughter just loved everything about it. It is so Charming and it's decorated so so lovely. My favorite thing was how good the sheets and towels smell they smell like clean it just felt clean. I even did the White Glove test I am kind of a germaphobe clean freak could not find one Speck of dirt. The owner was very accommodating and helped me in so many ways he even called me back at 8 in the morning when I was desperate for some place to stay. The manager was also so nice so polite very helpful she was very nice. We will definitely be back!! . Thank you Yodeler Inn.

Arnold S.

Yelp
The availability of the only Tesla high-powered wall charger in town made the Yodeler my only option to stay at in Red Lodge as part of my Great American West Road Trip 2017. I was fortunate as this place is awesome - quaint, friendly, and All American. The room was perfect, the Wi-Fi good, and the charm unbeatable. I highly recommend it to anyone passing through this beautiful part of our great country.

Nateron M.

Yelp
Stayed at the Yodeler for the first time. The staff was very nice and welcoming and it was a great first impression. The rooms are nothing special but it's very convenient (walk to bars, shops, restaurants). We stayed in a room with a "steam shower" and it was seriously amazing. Best shower I've ever had. I'll definitely stay here again.

Casey W.

Yelp
I've been meaning to write this review for many months- & couldn't recommend this place enough! A friend from Iceland & I had an AMAZING stay here last June for a wedding in Red Lodge. After the wedding, we had a day to kill- and desperately wanted to go see some sights in Yellowstone, but had no way to get down there. The owner of the Yodeler, Mac Dean, offered to take the day off & give us a FREE day ride & personal tour of the National Park. It was an unforgettable day trip down into Lamar Valley (truly the Serengeti of America), through the Upper Falls, brunch at Yellowstone Lake, the iconic wait for Old Faithful, dinner in Cooke City, and back up the epic Beartooth Pass after sundown. There are so many great day-trips you can take in any direction, but even the town of Red Lodge is charming, and totally worthy of spending a solid day or more in. The motel itself is thoroughly unique & historic, with great, friendly, folksy staff, but the owner's gesture speaks for itself: above & beyond our wildest expectations. The sights, hospitality, & accomodations were through the roof. Already planning my next trip. Thanks for the memories, Mac! I'll be back!

Brad L.

Yelp
First time in Red Lodge. This place has been great, stayed two nights, no steam shower in our room but the outdoor hot tub worked just fine. It is old as some have said, but it is clean which is most important, the service was great, second most important and with 2 adults and 2 kids we had space and weren't crowded. We plan on staying here again next time we come to the mountain.

Molly D.

Yelp
The steam showers are amazing!! I'd come back again just for those, but the rest of the hotel, including the staff, is pretty wonderful too!!

L C.

Yelp
Mack is awesome!!! Why would you stay anywhere else in Red Lodge?!?! Great people, location and steam showers!!! DO IT!!!

Sahara E.

Yelp
Great place to stay while visiting Red Lodge. The owners and staff are extremely welcoming and accommodating. Our room was very clean and cozy. The steam shower in our room was amazing after a cold day. Close enough to walk downtown and enjoy the shops and night life yet far enough to still enjoy peace and quiet. There are also spots to plug in your electric car and a lift to accommodate wheelchairs which I thought was awesome. I would definitely recommend staying here when visiting red lodge.

C C.

Yelp
A privately owned motel with character! The building is a historical landmark- in the late 1800s/early 1900s it was housing for miners and their families, and a mercantile store. The motel has a Swiss chalet theme with a bonus of steam baths in each room (you will enjoy it more if you read the instructions posted on the bathroom wall:). The owner and staff were very helpful at this pet friendly motel. They even drew us a hand written map to find an easy hike along a river that was shaded and perfect for our dogs. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The attention to details for understanding their customer's needs was unusual for our travel experiences. There were four connections for electric cars, a ski wax room, washing areas with rags and buckets for washing motorcycles. The hot tub was a therapeutic 103 or 104 (cover is a little difficult to get on and off).

Myron J.

Yelp
Charming & Authentic. Classic chalet style motel from the gilded era of 60s & 70s skiing. This place is the real deal. Excellent value. Rooms are either a half a flight up or down. You can practically back your car up to your room door. Nice outdoor hot tub. Steam generator in the showers. Rooms are dated but clean and comfortable. Everything is lovingly and meticulously maintained by the owner. Stayed here to go skiing at Red Lodge Mountain. Great location on the South end of Main Street on way to the ski area and just three blocks from downtown. A short walk to everything. The perfect choice! Loved staying here. They even have a ski waxing room! Staff was friendly and accommodating. We plan on coming back. Thanks!

Elise L.

Yelp
This place was a welcome relief after our camping trip got rained out. The owner really bent over backward to accommodate us and our dogs. The rooms are huge and super clean. They cater to the outdoor crowd with cleaning supplies for mountain bikes and lots of hooks for ski gear but I would recommend this place to anyone. You can walk to downtown but its also just a half a mile to the turn to the ski area. Its right on the river and the main street but its also quiet since the rooms are in back. Im sure I will be staying here again.

Cissy N.

Yelp
Super nice owners who make sure you have everything you need and more. The staff was nice and helpful. Wish we had another day because between the yodeler motel and the quaint town of red lodge, it would make a great vacation even better.

Michelle S.

Yelp
The Yodler is Red Lodge...lovely, friendly, clean, comfortable, wonderfully located. Add in the steam shower and amenities like the bike wash and you can't ask for anything more. This is the place to stay and explore Red Lodge and the surrounding area.

Brittany S.

Yelp
Loved staying at the Yodeler! The steam shower is amazing and I love all the countertop space the rooms provide for your stuff. Friendly staff and cute set up. Didn't get a chance to try out the hot tub, but next time!

Michelle G.

Yelp
I was in Red Lodge for a work trip and The Yodeler was the perfect place to stay for my two day stay. When I arrived the owner was at the front desk and was immediately very welcoming. It felt like I was walking into a place I've been before, it was like home. The entire staff was very generous and kind throughout the whole stay. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. I stayed in one of the upper rooms and it was extremely spacious and quiet which was nice after a long day of work. Whether you are staying for a night or a few weeks, I defiantly recommend The Yodeler!

Lew Z.

Yelp
I tell you, we New Yorkers could not have been more pleased during our drop-in, one-night stay on June 2 at The Yodeler. Starting off--and very significant--was our stellar reception by Renee, who presided over the desk that afternoon. Friendly and welcoming and chock-full of chat, she made everyone feel that he or she was the most interesting person ever to pass through their portal. I could've listened and chatted the day away but forced myself to shut up and take the room. Comfortable, well-appointed (even including a greatly-appreciated rubber shower mat) and reasonably-priced, it was a what's-not-to-like? kind of place we'll long remember...one of the best values we found on our entire month's driving vacation, and a great beginning to the next day's ascent of Beartooth Pass. The Yodeler is well worth one's consideration, if only for the chat alone. (But watch your grammar; Renee was an English teacher in her previous life!)

Dirk D.

Yelp
Went to Red Lodge for the first time and really liked the town and found this hotel to be quite unique. enjoyed the stay. The Owner of this hotel was also quite friendly and very helpful. would stay there again for sure

Dan H.

Yelp
I had high hopes for this place, and this town, and this state, and none ever really rose to the occasion. It wasn't really the hotel's fault that in the next room there was a drunk yappity bitch that got in at 2am and yapped until freakin sunup. But paperthin walls are discouraging to a traveler that might be intending to utilize the venue for sleep (as hotels/motels occasionally are.) Bummer.

C C.

Yelp
It is old but very clean. Location is perfect we could walk everywhere we needed to go. We would diffently return!

Jim S.

Yelp
Great little place in Red Lodge. Within walking distance to many bars and restaurants. Oh yes, the steam shower is definitely a great amenity. Wish more places had one of these! Overall it was a clean room and reasonably priced during ski season.

Gina J.

Yelp
We took a detour from Yellowstone and landed in Red Lodge. Called from the road and made a reservation. The owner was extremely helpful and friendly. The room was clean. I love the environment friendly updates. You are close to everything.

Deah G.

Yelp
If you like clean, comfortable, friendly kitsch, this place is for you. We LOVED it. The steam showers are amazing - a steam bath in every room! Pet friendly which was great because we were traveling with a cat. Walking distance to downtown and great restaurants. We felt so lucky to find this place.

Doran S.

Yelp
If you want great value with a side of charm and local flavor, this is the hotel for you. Stayed there one night with our two kids. Got a two room suite for 150.00, great location, close to the hot tub. Kids had a blast.
