Don't you hate it when a scrub hollers at you from the passenger side of his best friend's ride?
Well there's none of that but plenty of catchy beats in a hip hop yoga class at Yoga 213. I am all for 'what the?!' weird and wonderful fitness combinations and was eager to get my downward (Snoop) dog on when in Melbourne.
With 3 studios to choose from, I arrived for a 6.30am class in Richmond without an online booking, but the mats did quickly fill up. We transitioned through an energising vinyasa flow to the likes of Drake and other hip hop masters, from slow and soulful to lyrical and fun.
To be honest - it wasn't as vigorous or LA cray cray as I imagined, it was actually quite spiritual and breath-focused, with hip hop music just adding to the class ambience. I imagine the evening classes might me more high energy party party - which I would give a go.
The studio is clean, bright and airy - and the concept definitely lends itself to yogis who like to add some music flavour to their practice.
