The 24 Best Places to Go Glamping in California

"The ranch offers a rentable main house, a bunkhouse, two-person pool cabins, and Camp Yokayo—nine two-person canvas tents nestled together in the trees that make them ideal for couples traveling together. Tents and cabins feature hammocks, luxe bedding, and soft lighting for comfort, and the property serves as a convenient base for nearby wine tasting at local vineyards and tasting rooms such as Nelson Family Vineyards and Rivino Winery in Ukiah." - Chelsee Lowe Chelsee Lowe Chelsee Lowe is a Los Angeles-based writer with an obsession with good eats and interesting stories. Yokayo Ranch was an absolute dream come true for our wedding. Tucked into the peaceful hills of Ukiah, the property feels like a hidden oasis—lush, serene, and surrounded by nature in the most magical way. Every corner of the ranch has a natural beauty that made our weekend feel so special and grounded. From the sweeping trees to the gentle golden light at sunset, it was the perfect setting for such a meaningful celebration. Rachel, who owns and runs the venue, is truly an angel. From the very start, she was attentive, calming, and so easy to work with. She went above and beyond to help us feel supported—from arranging beautiful flowers to helping find bartenders and smoothing out all the little details that make a wedding feel effortless. Her warmth and calm energy made the planning process feel personal and joyful. We always felt like we were in good hands. The ceremony space was elegant and intimate, and the dinner area glowed with charm and love. Our friends who stayed on the property felt so at home—they swam in the pool, danced to music on the outdoor speakers, and gathered in the stunning kitchen of the main house for late-night laughs. Every moment of the weekend felt relaxed, beautiful, and deeply memorable. We truly couldn’t have imagined a more perfect place to begin this next chapter of our lives.

This place is pure magic -- really, I'm kinda obsessed now. I celebrated my 40th birthday here with 40 people. It could not have been more perfect! The property and lodging are incredibly beautiful, well-appointed, and serene. The property is owned and run by incredible people who have put a lot of thought, energy, and love into making it truly unique and go above and beyond to make sure everything is perfect. Wish I could go back every weekend!

We just got married there, and it was honestly beyond anything we could’ve hoped for. The venue itself is stunning—peaceful, warm, and naturally beautiful in a way that doesn’t need (or want) a bunch of over-the-top extras. But what made it truly unforgettable was Rachel and her incredible team. From the very beginning, Rachel made everything feel easy. She’s organized, intuitive, calm, and somehow manages to be both laid-back and on top of every detail. I never felt overwhelmed, never stressed. I fully trusted her, and that trust paid off a thousand times over. The florals were perfect—gorgeous but not fussy, exactly in tune with the setting and the vibe we’d envisioned. Her staff was so kind and attentive, and the whole event flowed effortlessly thanks to their care and presence. Guests kept commenting on how beautiful everything was, but also how relaxed and fun the day felt. There was no pretense or pressure—just love, laughter, tacos (SO GOOD), and pure joy. Rachel also helped us source our food (YUM), hair and makeup artist (who was amazing), our dessert vendor (adorable and delicious), and even supported our late-night In-N-Out plan. She managed every piece of the puzzle with grace and humor, and made sure we got to actually enjoy our wedding day. (Which we did. Fully. With Palomas. And a piano man. And guacamole on my dress.) We’ve joked with our guests about making this an annual thing, and honestly? We might not be joking. Yokayo is that special. And if you’re lucky enough to have Rachel by your side, you’re in very good hands.

We celebrated our wedding in September 2024 at Yokayo, and it was a beautiful and amazing experience. The Yokayo team designed the property beautifully, the spaces felt open, cozy, and were a beautiful backdrop and gathering space for our families to celebrate. Our friends that stayed in glamping tents and the bunkhouse top floor had an awesome and fun time. Rachel and her team are incredibly experienced with weddings and helped our day go smoothly and turn out more beautifully than we could have imagined. We also worked with Rachel and Field House Florals for our flower arrangements, which were stunning (brought me to tears.) Rachel and her team were incredibly helpful leading up to the big day, and their vendor recommendations are great. Thanks to the Yokayo team for an amazing weekend we won’t forget!

I do many weddings here at the beautiful Yokayo Ranch. It’s probably the most magical place around here. The staff is so lovely and always easy to work with. All the housing on site is so cozy and Spacious, and has the best vibe and Perfect for any event. I’ve done over 20 weddings here in the last year and it’s probably my favorite place. The best part is you can party late and you get the whole weekend. I’m back there this weekend and am looking forward to it! Cheers to love ! 🤍🥂

We couldn’t see ourselves getting married anywhere else! Once we set foot on Yokayo Ranch, we knew that it was the perfect venue for our wedding. We fell in love with the natural scenery, comfortable accommodation, and amazing amenities. In addition to all the above, Yokayo Ranch has a stellar team! We appreciate Rachel and Dana for helping us throughout the planning process. Our coordinator was Rachel who possesses many talents, including floral design, and we are grateful to have her bring our wedding vision to life! Lastly, we are so grateful that Yokayo Ranch introduced us to Ukiah. The town is a hidden gem that we will forever recommend visiting. We will definitely come back to explore the town or book Yokayo Ranch for another kind of event or even just to say hi to Rachel.

There are no words to express how perfectly Yokayo Ranch handled every single aspect of our May 2024 wedding. We were repeatedly blown away at the thought, care, professionalism, creativity, and presence of everyone on Yokayo’s staff and from their preferred vendor partners. We cannot recommend this venue enough for any couple who wants a special, connected, and magical setting for their wedding day. The venue was perfect for our group. We rented all 9 tent spaces and filled the houses with our wedding party and friends. Everything was prepared and if we had any asks, they were immediately handled by Mark or another Yokayo staff member. Our friends loved getting ready together in the camper cabin and we spent 3 perfect nights sitting on the main house porch after the party until the wee hours of the morning. Nicole was our day of coordinator and we are just absolutely obsessed with her. She thought of everything we didn’t and made sure that our Friday welcome party, Saturday pool party and wedding went perfectly. She was present and around but never in the way. She allowed us to experience our weekend with our guests and just got things done before we would ever need to ask. Speaking of obsessed, we used Rachel (Fieldhouse) for our florals and she made our rainbow fever dreams come true. She did things with our florals that were beyond even our imagination- we provided a high level vision (Rainbow Alice in Wonderland trips down the rabbit hole) and just let her GO. Her creativity and skill knows no bounds; our guests were blown away - we still hear weekly how amazing our wedding and flowers were. I highly, highly recommend using Fieldhouse for your wedding florals and decor. Rachel and Nicole’s vision together was just pure magic. They have such a special bond and can finish each others’ sentences and know Yokayo in and out. I could write forever about our experience at Yokayo and how happy we were that we booked this venue for our wedding. Apart from our photographer we used all Yokayo recommended vendors and Yokayo Bartenders - we highly recommend them! Our wedding will not be the last time we stay at Yokayo, we will be back. Special thanks to Rachel, Nicole, Dana, Mark, Steven, Jodi, Creedance, Olivia, Emily and Beau and Jenn from Grasslands.

We have been frequenters of Yokayo Ranch since our wedding in 2020. Simply said, if you are getting married, book it. Every aspect of our stay was amazing - everyone was friendly & made us feel like family. We were so well taken care of we haven't stopped going back. This past weekend, we did the day use of the pool area for a graduation party and it was perfect. Our guests were so happy to be back in the place where we got married and it was nice to make even more memories beyond our wedding weekend. Yokayo Ranch is just one of those places that you come back to and never want to leave. We love you guys!

Yelp
Visited for a perfectly enjoyable and beautiful wedding last weekend. The ceremony was in a little courtyard/garden area, with cocktail area in the patio, and dinner on the lawn. This site is gorgeous!

Yelp
I had the wonderful pleasure of spending 3 nights at the ranch for my friends wedding May 2022. The venue was stunning, from the hip designs and beautiful grounds. The venue is up a gravel road away from any neighboring buildings, so you feel you are truly secluded in a magical place. Large trees surrounded the buildings so you feel you are surrounded by a Northern California forest. I could go on and on about the venue but I must speak about Rachael and family (they run the business(es)). If you wanted to meet a modern day renaissance woman, it's Racheal. She not only was incredibly organized in planning my friends wedding she was so calm and friendly all along the way. Having a wedding at a pretty place is one thing but having it at a place where you feel like it's your home gives such a more meaningful experience. The generosity of her and her family went above and beyond. My parents came and are already figuring out dates so they can celebrate their 50 year wedding anniversary. It's definitely not my last time visiting Yokayo Ranch. Just trying to convince my husband that we should just live on the ranch!

Yelp
This review is long overdue. If you are liking what you are seeing in the photos, it only gets better in person. My wife and I booked this venue only by seeing the photos online and it was even more impressive and charming in person. Everything at the venue is very well thought out, clean and incredible. Our friends and family still talk about what an amazing time they had and how it was one of their favorite weddings they have been to. The staff was incredible too. Rachel and Val love what they do and it shows. They work hard, don't miss a single detail and really care about your stay. You will have an amazing experience and so will your guests because of their heartfelt efforts. Send them an email to request to see the place for yourself, you will love this place!

Yelp
At the outskirts of Ukiah, CA, lies a hidden treasure. A truly unique resort, Yokayo Ranch provides the perfect escape from the everyday norm. Two houses and two cabanas are available for special events, meetings, or just a quiet vacation. The main house is equipped with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. A spacious kitchen enables guests to prepare meals in comfort. A combined dining and lounging area, complete with a wet bar, allows friends and family members to enjoy relaxing evenings together. The bunk house has two bedrooms downstairs and one upstairs. A large kitchen is available in this house as well. An entertainment room contains a large projector that can be used to watch movies or for presentations. Two cabanas are located next to the pool and hot tub. Each sleeps three and has a private bathroom. Both units feature café nooks, containing breakfast beverages, cold and dry storage, and dishes. In all, the five houses provide sleeping for up to 20 guests. Yokayo Ranch offers an amazing retreat for couples wanting a romantic getaway. Reservations can be made for a night or weekend stay without breaking the bank. Longer stays can be arranged as well. Everything except food is provided. Utensils and basic spices are available for food preparation. Bedding, towels, and even some disposable items are provided as well. WiFi is available throughout the property, and cell phone reception is excellent. Netflix is also available through the WiFi service, and many guests take advantage of this feature for movie nights. For those who prefer being out of doors, trails with beautiful scenery are available. A variety of plants and wildlife are a peaceful treat, as are the nearby vineyards. Campsites are even available for those who want to rough it. Also located on the 100-acre resort is an ecofriendly farm. Work on the farm is done mainly through efforts of people, animals such as draft horses, and solar power. The goal is to decrease the use of machinery, thereby improving the environment and allowing for the repair of natural resources. By avoiding use of large machinery, the farmers are able to reduce the amount of harmful gases released into the environment. Implementing more natural "tools" such as farm animals and mineral dust fertilizer allows the earth to heal. These practices also result in more healthy products for the consumers. Whether you are a Mendocino local looking for a relaxing excursion or an out-of-towner seeking out your next vacation spot, Yokayo Ranch is definitely worth checking out Find pictures and videos on my Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/CookieJArnett/media_set?set=a.1711771032183996.1073741857.100000533479273&type=3

Yelp
There seemed to be little to no security at a music event attended. Some patrons yelling at people. Telling people off extremely aggressively.

Yelp
Yokayo Ranch is a newly acquired property by the same people who own Leonard Lake Reserve. This property is incredible and conducive for relaxing, getting off the beaten path and connecting with loved ones, nature or yourself. The ranch is the perfect place for a family reunion or weddings. There are two large houses and two poolside cabanas. The kitchens in both of the houses are well equipped and would easily accommodate a caterer. The ranch has over 3500 acres of gorgeous rolling hills, walking and horse trails as well as vineyards to stroll along and soak in the incredible views. The accommodations are cozy with fireplaces, sprawling views and all the comforts of home without any of the distractions. You can completely unplug at Yakayo Ranch as there are no televisions but they do have a projector and free WiFi if you are having a working vacation or attending a retreat. The resident draft horses are friendly, awe inspiring and impressive. The neighbor in the adjacent property raises dogs, chickens and ducks alike and is exactly what you would imagine a kind and welcoming neighbor to be in the country. I simply can not recommend this place enough. My only regret was not having more than 3 days to spend here.

Yelp
What a gem! Photos do not do this place justice, you've got to see the property in person for yourself to experience its full magic. I stayed at Yokayo for several months and thoroughly enjoyed its gorgeous and thoughtfully designed living spaces. You'll also love the ample, bright light coming through all rooms of the Main House. The owners were also kind and friendly to work with. Yokayo's a perfect place for an intimate gathering with friends and family-- highly recommended!

Yelp
Beautiful venue that is in the middle of nowhere. Seriously an amazing venue for an outdoor wedding. They have a few large open areas for reception and ceremony and little rooms for people to book out so the wedding party can stay a little bit longer. It's kinda far from anything but well worth the drive.

Yelp
I don't know where to even start with how amazing this place is. We feel truly lucky to have found a wedding venue that provided the perfect space for our unconventional wedding celebration. From the beautiful landscape, comfortable accommodations, provided day-of coordinator and minimal sound restrictions - it was absolutely perfect. Private, secluded but still close to amenities when we inevitably needed to run into town. We were able to plan an entire weekend of fun for our family and friends, keeping more than 1/2 on site with us. Rachel was amazing and incredibly helpful throughout making our vision possible and supporting the weird and wild we wanted on our day. Did I mention we had a deep house dj play a 6.5 hr set until sunrise? because we did and it was awesome. And to be able to hang out at a pool to say farewell to all our guests, that was the icing on the cake! THANK YOU so much for sharing this special place with us and our guests. We had the most amazing weekend ever.

Yelp
This place is a must see!! Whether a vacation destination or wedding venue it's absolutely divine!! The staff are always accommodating and pleasant and the view and location make this a Mendocino County dream! I love the farm they have on property with its delicious farm fresh fruits and vegetables as well. They are located just enough out of town but so close to everything and local wineries!! The houses and cabins are adorable and the main house a real walk back in history as a vacation destination for San Francisco travelers . A perfect ranch !!

Yelp
Yokayo Ranch is a beautiful gem that is nestled between vineyards and gorgeous hillside. This property makes you feel completely secluded even though it is a very short drive away from town. The main house is charming and spacious. I especially enjoyed the large fireplace and the clear view of the Mendocino County mountains. This property also has two poolside cabanas if members in your party need additional privacy. The staff were incredibly accommodating to our needs and made our entire group feel very comfortable. This property would be amazing for weddings and family reunions. My family is already planning our next stay and we look forward to spending more time there very soon.

Yelp
This is an amazing venue, and as a community member I am very grateful that it has been purchased by a family who is committed to carefully and lovingly restoring it to its former glory, including a working farm! The living spaces are lovely, the bedrooms comfortable, and I can only imagine how spectacular the salt water pool will be once its swimming season. Parking is somewhat limited but that is a minor inconvenience compared to the splendor of this piece of land. Owner Julia and event planner Christy are joys to work with. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Yelp
I love going to Yokayo Ranch. Just outside of Ukiah, an easy drive down a well-maintained dirt road transports you to a cluster of comfy houses, perfect for a large gathering of friends and family, that feels intimate and cozy. The inside spaces have beautiful colors and plush textures and there are plenty of spaces for outdoor lounging and entertaining. I can't wait to go there in the summer to lay out by the pool!

Yelp
What a wonderful place to host your wedding! It was by far the loveliest wedding venue I have ever seen. The property was beautiful and so secluded and relaxing. The accomadations were immaculate and very pretty. The large bunkhouse had a panoramic view of the land from each room, and was really comfortable and beautiful. I can't think of a better place to gather with friends and family to relax and have a celebration. If you are planning an event, please come to see the ranch--you will not be disappointed. I highly recommend The Yokayo Ranch! Susan Connors

Yelp
What a lovely place to land after days of traveling .... The bed cozy as could be with a delightful sound of birds and nature surrounding us in the morning after a wonderful sleep! The cabin was beautifully decorated and very clean with a modern rustic feel! The pool was perfect as the temp in Ukiah was very warm that day! All our questions were quickly answered and our stay was perfect! I would defiantly stay again and would recommend this to friends and family! What a sweet getaway so close to town with a super country feel! A pure gem!!! Thank you Yokayo Ranch! Ukiah is lucky to have you!!!

Yelp
Yokayo Ranch is a stunningly beautiful place to stay. The main house has a grand, spacious, vintage feel. My children had so much fun running the length of the main hall, and exploring all the little nooks here and there in the house. It felt a little like Narnia. The grounds outside are beautiful and well kept. Just a short 5 minute drive to town makes this an especially convenient retreat.

Yelp
We rented Yokayo for my husband's birthday celebration, and shared it with 18 of our close friends and their children. Everyone couldn't stop talking about the farm. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out and enjoy their quiet time and personal space, with lovely communal space for lounging by the fire and enjoying a festive meal. We easily hosted a lovely meal for 30 adults (and 8 toddlers/babies) inside. We worked with one of the recommended caterers for that event, and the whole evening couldn't have been more magical or perfect. Some of our guests took advantage of the hot tub, though it was a bit cold for the pool. We thoroughly enjoyed the ample and beautiful indoor space, and would love to come back in warmer months to enjoy the beautiful outdoors as well. As an extra bonus we bought produce straight from the farm and loved it. I highly highly recommend Yokayo whether you're looking for a quiet weekend away with friends or a memorable celebration.

Yelp
I've lead retreats all over the world from the fabulous Oberoi Hotel in India to elegant spa retreat centers in Jamaica to beautiful hotels all over Europe. The Yakayo Ranch was the most peaceful and relaxing place. I had the pleasure to facilitate personal transformation work. The amenities allowed us to have a guest facilitator join us via Skype to do live coaching with participants and to meet three day old baby chicks and an array of farm animals including the two most magnificent horses you could imagine. The beautiful meadows, cackling creek and vineyards were all opportunities to learn deep personal lessons from nature. The facilities are lovely, rustic elegance and warm with a feeling of coziness with a kitchen large enough and well equipped to allow our caterer to easily prepare our meals. Staff, participants and myself all left feeling refreshed and renewed, exactly what a retreat should generate. Thank you to Yakayo Ranch and its wonderful staff.

Camille M.

Yelp
Very nicely renovated, and run by lovely people, Yokayo Ranch is located in a remote-feeling setting very close to town. It's a great place for family reunions or getting together with friends for a weekend retreat. I enjoyed seeing the animals on the farm and hiking through the oak woodlands while we were there.
