My 17 Favorite Places to Eat in Hong Kong

"One of the most consistently good ramen spots in Hong Kong, Yokozuna only seats 24 so expect a wait, but you’re rewarded with flavorful broth and fresh noodles served quickly — as a ramen lover, I give it two thumbs up." - Matthew Kepnes

Passing by this restaurant for so many years. My first time visit today. No queue today. I tried the assorted Ramen. My expectation to the soup is firstly hot and taste second. My feeling is just a warm soup and some of the ingredient like bamboo, meat etc is surprisingly cold. Noodle is generic type of Ramen. Soup (pork base) is like 出前一丁。 Bowl of noodle charged me HKD 98. Not sure I will try second time.

Slightly cramped but very nice atmosphere. The tea was not overly sweet and my rice arrived very quickly. Ramen was slightly chewy, and perfectly cooked. Pork has the perfect balance between fat and meat.

Yokozuna is a small Japanese eating place. It has been here since before COVID. Only when all diners are in then can everyone get a seat. The rice set is nice, ramen is also good. Small and cozy place up the hill. They provide minced garlic which is great with the rice set. The staff is friendly too.

4/5 I think this might be one of the best soy sauce ramen in town. And their barbecue pork is tender and flavourful as well. I also like that they have more veggie in the Raman then other shops. But their pan fried dumplings today was marshy.

Small Japanese restaurant witch ramen. Ramens were good and tasty, the marinated egg might have been the best egg I have ever tasted. We could only pay by cash but I don’t know if it’s always like that or just on that day. Ramen was for around 80$. Overall recommend.

This shop is one of the earliest best Ramen shops in HK. The price is good and the food aren't bad considering its age. For people who would like to know how Ramen was in hK back in 1980s, or people who dislike overrated fancy modern Ramen shops, this old shop could be the best standard stands still.

This restaurant is opened for 30years. There is always a long long queue but definitely worth waiting. We have been waiting for 45mins from ~7pm until we get a seat. After seated, the food arrived in ~10mins upon ordering. The staff are polite and we ordered roast pork ramen (85hkd) and double soup ramen(both fish and pork soup)(85hkd). Delicious!

Yelp
Decent ramen located in downtown HK. I was super hungry and this place was so close to my hostel, so i decided to give it a try. I didn't think it was especially delicious, but i was already craving Japanese ramen before I arrived in Japan lol. There's not many tables. Even though i was eating alone, i had to wait for a bit so expect some wait during those busy times. In short, not a must-try in HK, but worth a visit if you need a dinner close by. *remember it's cash only!

Yelp
After a long, long walk through the ladies market, a friend suggested that we come to this ramen place, and I'm so glad she suggested this! Located in Yau Ma Tei, this place was incredibly busy, but we only had to wait around 5 minutes before getting a shared table. The tables are quite small, so be prepared to get quite close to the person you may be sharing the table with! The go to thing here is ramen, and there are a whole bunch of flavours from curry to fish to the classic tonkotsu. The prices are pretty much all the same, around 80hkd. I got the classic one, and it was delicious, the soup was really rich and the noodles were cooked just right. However the meat was sliced really thin, so you really only get like 4 thin slices. However the flavour was definitely 10/10. Definitely a great place for ramen!

Yelp
Apparently this place has been around for over 20+ years in Hong Kong. I randomly stumbled upon this place and decided to try it after seeing a long queue outside of the restaurant. For a table for one, it literally took me less than 10 minutes. Service was alright but the bonito flakes and pork bone flavored ramen that i had was good. The broth was very rich and the noodles were just right (i chose hard noodles). The soft boiled egg and pork slice that came with the ramen was done perfectly. As a first timer, i would come back to try other ramen next time.

Yelp
Yokozuna has been around for years - since 1987, in fact. It's not having the greatest time in the Noughties, with heavy weight contenders like Butao Ramen, Ichiran, and Ippudo causing ripples with their ramen in Hong Kong's blogosphere. However, it differs with these hotshots by giving you more variance with soup bases instead of all-out tonkotsu. Yokozuna offers shoyu ramen and miso ramen in addition to the popular tonkotsu base. The last time I went, I tried all three. The tonkotsu ramen isn't as unctuous as the other ramen shops, but had lots of toppings - with chashu, green beans, nori sheet, sweet corn, bamboo shoots, and narutomaki kamaboko. The shoyu and soybean/miso broth were, as you might imagine, lighter but still flavourful. My only issue was with the beef, which tasted like something from a fast-food Yoshinoya beef bowl - definitely go for the extra side of chashu, it's tastier and more generously portioned than some other ramen institutions. The way they grill the meat leaves a sweet caramelisation on the sides that many eateries just don't care to do. The salted eggs - an obligatory component to any ramen experience - were commendable.
