I only had time to choose 1 beach in Ishigaki and the research paid off. This beach is ideal for snorkeling. I have never seen coral this perfect, so close to the shore. You can wade out to your waist and be surrounded by loads of tropical fish. So much colour and life. I was in there for around 3 hours total in between breaks. The water was very warm, but I found the current strong, so be careful. The highlight was seeing a sea snake. I avoided the jellyfish thankfully. There is a surf shop there with all the gear but I had my own so not sure of the price. They sell cold drinks. I taxi'd from the main town in the South across the whole island to get to Yonehara. That was a beautiful drive. I got flashes of movies of Pacific battles in WWII. This island is as far South as Japan gets, so if you like the tropical feel, include this on your holiday
