I'm glad I didn't see any of the negative reviews before going. If you are looking for a modern hotel, this might not be for you. We stayed in a heated tent cabin, with the bathrooms and showers just a short walk up the hill (everything was provided - shampoo, towels, etc.) The beds were comfy, and I slept like a rock under the cozy comforter. The additional $20 for the spa was worth every penny. The dinners were delicious, reasonably priced, and the portions were large. There was an Irish music festival on Saturday night, with some great energy and dancing. The owner was hands on, walking around the café, making sure everything was good, and dancing with the guests. Just a short drive to the park, it is a welcomed oasis after a long day of hiking. I had an awesome experience, and I am already planning my next visit.

Beautiful cabins nestled into the mountainside. I highly recommend the restaurant. After you eat, go down to the health spa for a nice soak in the hot tub. Then sweat away the toxins in the sauna! Definitely worth the $20 bucks.

I should have written this review earlier but life got in the way.||this is my second trip to the Bug. I was there for a yoga retreat and both were awesome.||first and foremost---caroline the owner---she is the best. she goes out of her way to make your stay comfortable and pleasant. no matter what we asked, she had the answers. she and her staff were so accommodating.||the Bug itself is divided into cabins which are mostly on the hillside and are wonderful. my cabin had the most comfortable king bed, mini frig, hairdryer, toiletries, table and chairs, balcony, nice size shower with good water pressure, plenty of drawers and hooks, great lighting, plenty of outlets---so very comfortable.||our retreat included the food and believe me---the meals are amazing. we had a number of choices for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. there was also wine available for purchase. one of the great services they provided involves lunch. because so many people go to Yosemite right after breakfast, they provided a bagged lunch. really nice. I should mention that the cafe is so inviting and clean.||on property is a spa, sauna, jacuzzi, and massage.|there are also some trails you can hike, a place for a bonfire, and the yoga room is incredible. there are a few games like foosball too.||Yosemite is about 45 min away and you can drive or use shuttle transportation. ||I am already booked for next October.||try the bug. you won't regret it.

We stayed a couple of nights and the room was perfect for a family. Not too big but with place enough for the four of us. It was very quiet, just in the middle of ther forest, all surrounded by vegetation and the dinner and breakfasts were wonderful. It is not inside the park but this was advantageous for us because we felt more tranquility.

Google
I would only give this place 1.5 stars for what they offer and the experience. Do NOT spend your money here. We spent over $700 on our stay here and I wish we would have taken our money to a nicer resort in the area because there are plenty of them. This place is more of a cheap summer camp than a resort by any means and should be advertised as such. I see why they call it "rustic" so they can fall back on it being crappy. We rented the hummingbird cabin for our anniversary trip. When we arrived to the hummingbird cabin there was NO HOT WATER, every time we turned on the water the entire cabin would flicker, the entire trip. Absolutely an electrical / wiring issue that is prolonged and not something that just appeared by happen stance on our trip... They knew about this and decided it is OK to rent anyways - awful. The breakers needed to be flipped often is my guess because of power surges and the cabin being cheaply wired. We brought this to the attention of the front desk staff and they said they would contact management to let them know and service to fix the issue. We never heard back from anyone despite several emails sent to the front desk staff, and on the last day of our trip we finally had hot water but by this time we were already leaving. So all our cute pictures we were not able to shower for and get ready etc. The hummingbird cabin is not on the property but is instead across the street on a different property and is next to the owners house. They are essentially just renting out their mother in law suite as a "resort cabin." They mention this on the website but it is misleading and not clear what or where the humming bird cabin is and if I knew we had to drive off the property and onto a different property to get to it we would have stayed somewhere else. The food at the resort was just OK, way over priced for what it was, but it was nice to have a restaurant easily accessible. We did breakfast and and tried almost all their entries + got their advertised bag lunch - which was not great. The spa was closed during our trip but no mention of that on the website or when we checked in. We got an email on the day of our appointment telling us they did not buy the cleaning supplies they needed and would close the spa. We spent the $70 to do the couples tubs, we wanted to do a 4 hour spa day where we would go hike in the park in the morning and then come back and do hot tubs and spa and sauna. Instead we got that email, they told us that we could still do that couples tubs, but they couldn't clean the main tub so it was closed... (weird they could clean one set up tubs but not another?). So they offered us $20 off, which is the cost of the day spa pass, but nothing off the cost of the couples tubs or our missed experience - which was the whole reason we choose this cabin... All in all we had a good time in Yosemite DESPITE the Yosemite Bug Resort's mishaps and their utter lack of communication or attention. 1/5 Would Not Choose to Stay Here Again. I added a photo just because of visibility. It was so clear and amazing despite our accommodations. We come tom Yosemite a few times a year and will be telling our friends and family never to stay here.

Google
1 hour drive from Curry Village in Yosemite National Park. I stayed in the female 6 bed dorm and it was comfortable, with an en suite bathroom which was cleaned daily. Kitchen and laundry/dryer available in separate buildings. I bit pricey for a hostel bed but it's Yosemite. There is a restaurant on site June Bug Cafe which I understand is open for breakfast and dinner with option for takeaway sandwiches for lunch - it was delicious but on the pricier side. There is also a spa and hot tub on site which I was not aware of until a fellow traveller told me - I didn't try it but it looked excellent and would be a great option after a long day of hiking.

Google
This place is a hidden gem! Rustic Bug Yosemite Resort offers a unique blend of rustic charm and modern comfort. While it may officially be a 1-star resort, the amenities definitely exceeded our expectations, reaching a solid 3-star level. We loved the privacy and seclusion of the property, and the strong WiFi was a huge plus. Staying in the 4-bed cabin (with 1 queen and 2 bunk beds) gave us a real "glamping" vibe. The attached bathroom was clean and convenient. While the beds were a bit squeaky, it kind of added to the rustic charm. The common kitchen was a lifesaver for heating up leftovers and to-go meals. And June Bug Cafe is a must-visit – just be sure to check their hours in advance. Overall, we had a fantastic experience at Rustic Bug Yosemite Resort. It's a short drive to Yosemite National Park, making it the perfect base for exploring the area. We will definitely be back!

Came here for three nights in a cabin. Great location 45 minutes from yosemite Park. Quirky fun place. Great hot tub and sauna excellent dining and bar with good food and prices. Thoroughly enjoyed and recommend

Yelp
This is wonderful place. Has a small office, common kitchen fully loaded and eating space where you can eat together with everyone, a play area with some pool tables, enough parking spots and multiple bathrooms and shower rooms. We got a small room with a queen bed. It was small but perfect for two people. The only issue we saw the wifi didnt reach our tent, so we had no network! They also have a cafe nearby but it is way too expensive. Theres a spa with a day charge which is great too. Overall great for the price, specially when compared to other places nearby.

Yelp
I wish I could leave zero stars. They're incredibly unhelpful. My family couldn't make it to our reservation that night and so we arrived in the morning. They gave our hotel away. We had nowhere to stay. They did nothing to help us. And of course, they kept our money. Don't stay here.

Greg C.

Yelp
Rustic but very good food. Service was also good despite ordering at counter. They have homemade pies that were excellent

Stephanie P.

Yelp
Clean and cozy spot. Easily accessible from the highway. Relatively close to Yosemite. Affordable rates with the option to share rooms and bathrooms or have your own private room. The cafeteria is always warm and has decent food all day!

Alexa H.

Yelp
I have stayed here several times and this has now become a traditional part of my Yosemite experience. The Bug is a great place to meet people. They have private rooms, cabins, and hostel style dorms available (with shared bathrooms and kitchen). -There is a bonfire right by the Cafe, which is a great way to end a day and fantastic way to meet other people. -There is also a spa, which has both a public hot tub and private tub rooms and massages available for bookings. -The June Bug café is located in the center, which has amazing food and once again a fantastic place to either people watch or mingle with other guests.

Jason L.

Yelp
This spot is horrible. You should never stay here! All jokes aside. I love The Bug. The food is always delicious. Fresh and plenty of options. Even some vegan plates. The rooms are a little outdated, but that just adds to the experience. Take advantage of the spa. Especially if you're out exploring the park. The Bug has become a tradition for me and will be for years to come.

Bren H.

Yelp
horrible. stayed a night to tour the wedding venue, our room was nasty and had a broken bed. Food at the hall was disgusting and extremely limited. booked the wedding because we liked the view. Never heard back from Caroline, then emailed her about it and she canceled the event instead of acknowledging that there had been no communication from her.

Viviana Z.

Yelp
No compassion. I can see by the response to other unpleasant customers that they won't really care about your issues. All I was asking for was for a refund for one night after having a bad experience with the ac and overheating. The guy that was there the night of 8/31 was so nice and even tried to fix the ac himself since maintenance wasn't on the property at the moment. He couldn't unfortunately fix it and my husband overheated and got what seemed like heat exhaustion. The ac wasn't fixed until after 9 Pl way past time time we wanted to go to sleep. We had reservations for the park for Sunday that now we won't be able to use since I have to drive us home now. I wanted to put that 135 to a hotel for the night on our drive home. Seeing as the resort was fully booked I can't imagine that $135 would affect them how the $135 will affect us. It wasn't my first time at Yosemite Bug but now it will definitely be my last time and I'm sure they won't care.

Soumyakanti P.

Yelp
Wonderful place to stay with cozy huts and the best cafe in the area with views. There was a discount for boarders using public transit to get there. Food portions are big and hearty after a tired day in the Yosemite area.

Ben M.

Yelp
This review is for the starlite house. Kitchen is as complete as could be. There is a camp style bbq grill outside. A great range and stove to cook on and the house has good ventilation. Cooking here was a good experience. No dishwasher, I couldn't find A sponge but did find a dish towel and soap. The house has great water pressure. A very large LG TV with Netflix, also there are multitude of games in the cabinet underneath the TV. The beds were very comfortable Bats fly over at twilight. I'd stay here again. Pick up a trail lunch or take out breakfast from the cafe starting at 7am, we did not but the convenience is awesome.

Yelp
Quaint and comfortable stay just a 50 minute drive from Yosemite. ~Location~ This resort is located up in the mountains and has multiple options for different types of rooms ranging from hostel-type to shared bathrooms to private rooms. We opted for the private room with a bathroom and enjoyed it. ~Rooms~ We were assigned the Glacier cabin which comes with an attached bath. We shared a wall with the cabin next door but did not have any complaints regarding noise or sound. Cabin- 5/5: clean and comfortable room. There was a refrigerator included in room which was super convenient for snacks. One of my favorite things were the hot showers. Nothing like a nice hot shower after a long day of hiking. They also had a fan and AC unit in the room which worked perfectly. Bed- 5/5: The bed was comfortable and I felt like I had a pretty decent night's rest for being away from home ~Parking~ They have a few parking lots and depending on how full it gets, you may need to park on the sides. We were there for labor day weekend and parking did get pretty busy during the weekend rush. ~Staff~ 5/5: Friendly and accommodating staff ~Food~ 4/5: On site restaurant for quick meals and coffee in the AM. We enjoyed two dinners at the restaurant. They have a daily menu that is robust in options and caters to all food types ~Check In~ 3/5: I wish there had been an email or further instructions on how to find check in office; we were a little lost in the beginning when locating the office for check in and spent some time roaming before we were able to find it. ~Amenities~ They have a spa area with a hot tub, yoga room, sauna which we did not use but looked clean and promising. ~Pricing~ 4/5: Relatively affordable lodging compared to some other options in/near Yosemite Overall, I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay while exploring Yosemite.

Yelp
When you read the name of this place, there is cause for concern, so don't take the name lightly! I'm terrified of bugs, but since options for hotels were limited for our visit to Yosemite (either expensive or far from Yosemite), we decided to give this place the benefit of the doubt cuz why would you advertise that there are bugs in your rooms?!?! We stayed in one of the private rooms (Bear A). During our stay, we encountered 3 bugs in our room (2 spiders, and 1 bee). One of the spiders was on the bathroom ceiling, so we couldn't reach it to kill it. The other spider was in the shower. The bee was also in the shower, but it was already dead in a puddle of water. For fear that the spider would fall on our heads while we were in the bathroom, we asked the lady in the front desk if they could provide a ladder or have someone come in to kill the spider. The lady in the front desk said the maintenance guys were out, but she was able to get one of the cafe guys to come assist and kill the spiders. Thank goodness for the hero who came to rid our room of the spiders. He truly deserves a medal. Here is the breakdown: Room overall: 1/5. Our room was Bear A. There were lots of marks and stains in the room, so it definitely wasn't the nicest room ever. The room was also quite snug and on the small side. It had two twin beds, which were very creaky and not very comfortable. The room also has a private bathroom. Bathroom was quite small, especially the sink since there was barely any surface area to put your stuff on. There were bottles of what I am guessing were body wash, shampoo, and conditioner, but the bottles weren't labeled so I have no idea what I put in my hair and on my body. As I mentioned before, there seems to be a bug issue, since we came across 3 bugs in our room in the span of two days. Even around the outside of the cabins (on the deck and the stairs), there were lots of spider webs. It would be nice if this place tried to at least clean the outside of the cabin a bit to prevent bugs from entering. Parking: 3/5. There were two parking lots. If you park in the lower lot, you have to walk up an incline in addition to stairs to get to your cabin. The upper lot is harsh for the car since it has gravel. At least parking is free Wifi: 3/5. Free wifi, which is a must because there is no service here. Wifi isn't the fastest, but it works Noise: 3/5. No major issues here, but since the cabins/rooms were close together, you can hear some noises. Service: 5/5. Service here is quite stellar. They do try their best to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The staff is very friendly, and the front desk lady went above and beyond to find someone to take care of the spider problem. The cafe guy who killed the spider also went above and beyond. Accessibility to Yosemite: 3/5. It's about 40 ish minutes to the entrance of Yosemite, but there's a section that is a one way road, so traffic is stopped to allow cars to take turns on the bridge. This causes delays so the drive to Yosemite will likely be longer, closer to an hour drive. Overall, if it weren't for all the bugs in our room, I would say our stay would have been a solid 3/5 stars (even with the small rooms and uncomfortable beds), but the bugs situation was really disappointing.

Jessica B.

Yelp
Yosemite Bug, let me count the ways. We pre-booked a superior queen room for 1 night. Sean checked us in. What a sweetheart! We got there late and loved it so much that we decided to extend the stay. The room was booked, so extending meant that we had to check out in the morning, go see Yosemite, and check into another room in the afternoon. That was a plus because our room was such a magical wonderland of antiques and amazing art that getting to see another room was a thing to look forward to. This is a place to linger, vacation, and relax at the spa. Don't rush in and out. Just be.

Allyson R.

Yelp
Stayed at the Hummingbird Cabin and it was comfortable for 2 adults and 1 child. It was like an in-law unit, across the street from the Starlite Inn, and down the street from the Yosemite Bug Cafe and check-in. I liked how the cabin was comfortable with a full kitchen inside. There was space for one car as the driveway to get to the cabin was steep. Had to go to the Yosemite Bug for any fixes (the bathroom light went out and we needed to replace it) or towels since no one answered the listed phone number but we enjoyed our stay. The food at the Yosemite Bug Cafe was pretty good. I liked the crusted cod for dinner and the American breakfast with oatmeal. Overall I would recommend this place and would go back.

Brianna B.

Yelp
This place was like the Hilton of the mountains! Seriously, it truly a resort and have everything that you need. I'm sad that I found out that there were massages and a spa like right before I left! I stayed in the hostel portion of the resort. The beds were comfortable and lockers were present (although my lock was too small to use it). The other people in the hostel were also young travelers so the vibe was just right. My only gripe with the room was the lack of outlets. Had to charge me phone and computer in the bathroom, but like I said, the vibe was right so it was all good. The bathrooms were a pleasant surprise! There are two private shower stalls and two private toilets! It was quiet comfortable to use. I was also upset that I found out the the food is AMAZING like right before I checked out. There are several vegan options on the menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner!!! I had a tofu scramble breakfast burrito and it was the size of my head! I absolutely could not eat it all. The food is expensive, but worth it!

Mimi H.

Yelp
Beautiful place. Amazing decorated room. The best food and restaurant ever. Highly recommended. I will go back for sure, specifically for the great food.

Victoria S.

Yelp
Have stayed here many times it only gets better. The vibe alone makes this one of my favorite places to stay in Yosemite. The accommodations vary depending on your budget. On everyone of my stays I've had an impeccable room. This stay was a favorite. Our room was exquisitely antique. I've read some of the negative reviews and frankly those folks need to get a grip. If you want to stay on a concrete building go for it. This place is beautiful set in the wilderness. Our bedding was pristine and clean. Our room was spotless. The food was OUTSTANDING; as always. Although we were in a higher end room, I like the rustic charm just as well. The kitchen is newly remodeled and features several ovens, dishwashers, sinks. Would rather stay here than those over priced fancy spots. Come to the Yosemite Bug

Steve H.

Yelp
This is my first and last stay of two nights at a badly maintained facility located on a road to excellent Yosemite. The wall heater had a lit pilot, but did not heat. Part of the mattress of the queen size bed fell to the floor during the second night. Their advertised 'Superior private rooms with baths' are also advertised with refrigerators. It had a small 'beverage cooler', non-working without electricity, and secured in a bathroom closet without a way to even find the electrical connection. The front door light was such a dim glow that a flashlight was needed to see the stairs located four feet from the door. The management is practiced in the avoidance of dealing with issues. Those young people work for owners who ap'parently' set the pace for their hired 'children'. Here is the full breakdown, literally. Early June 2023, I arrived about 10:15 PM. It was cold. The room was cold. The wall heater pilot was on, but the wall thermostat did not activate it. There is a wall heat pump. It was on but I did not get heat. The desk person came with me to look. She could not work the wall heater. She did get the heat pump to begin giving heat. Good. Oh, by the way, if arriving later as I did, you might be parking at an overflow lot about 1,000 feet beyond regular parking, up a steep drive at a 200 foot elevation gain. It is a hike. Do not forget anything in your car. I found parking the second night. She said 'maintenance' would look at the wall heater tomorrow. The heat from the pump was okay, but seemed like sleeping by a diesel truck-stop. In the morning, the man at the desk said they turn off wall heaters about this time of year and depend on heat pumps. So, why was the pilot on full blast? At the end of 'tomorrow' I purchased food to put in what I thought was a small refrigerator. But it was a beverage cooler and was dead and unmovable. I told the woman at the desk, the same one who was there the first night. She was hostile to my coming in the door because she said the office was closed and she was finishing helping some new arrivals. Come tomorrow. She listened when I said thank you for helping with the heat last night. Her attitude changed. "By the way, the small 'fridge' does not work. Can someone look at it tomorrow?" What could she say, due to arrivals? She had been hostile. There is a hostel there, too, [a play on words] and a large cooler is in the dining area for them. I suggested that I use it. She agreed. Wow. So, up the hill - to the 'Superior private room with bath and refrigerator {sic}' that was dead, and back downhill to the dining area, and up to bed. The bed - about 4 AM, it went 'plop'. My feet were at floor level. The slightly undersize plywood sheet under the springs had come off the side rails. I was glad to be leaving that morning. I thought, if the owner does poor management and maintenance, then what else is inconsistent? So, I decided to take pictures and give a report. Note the picture of the wall notice PLEASE HELP US CONSERVE - Water & Septic, Gas, Electricity. The glass is cracked like their activity in the program. The next picture shows the toilet tank is old high flow, not low flow. The furnace pilot is full on, but the heater burner cannot be activated. A standing pilot uses about 1/3 of the total gas for a furnace that is fully operational. So, why is it not turned off? Note the carpet in the picture of the bed breakdown. It is worn, and I wonder what it holds from over the years. Some furniture is real retro and some is faux. When leaving in the morning, I mentioned to the man that a bed partially collapsed onto the floor, at 'Sentinel Dome - B'. He remarked, "Was it the queen bed?" I said, "That's the one." A-mazed. Steve H.

Yelp
4.5 stars Stayed here during Covid in the Deluxe Tent with 3 beds in December Pros: -Super friendly and cool staff :) -The cutest cat named Gus -On site restaurant (June Bug) is delicious and gourmet -Communal fire pit every night -Clean, Modern heated shared bathrooms -Adorable clean cabin with very comfy sheets and mattresses -REALLY great bang for your buck Cons: -Everything sort of spread out, have to go up and down a couple flights of stairs for the restroom -"Heated" tents just include a small space heater, does the trick but still cold inside the cabins -Only food option nearby is the cafe, it's great but a bit pricey -it's an hour from Yosemite Valley

Brandon W.

Yelp
Stayed 2 nights w/ friends for our Yosemite trip. Yosemite bug was recommended to me through Reddit and I'm glad I trusted it. If you know what to expect at Yosemite Bug and what to bring based off of those expectations along with camping experience you will love this place. We rented a 3 bed tent. Very clean tidy. I didn't see a single bug in our tent all weekend. Beds were great. Bathrooms were quite tidy and can't complain about the showers. They both exceeded our expectations. Bring shower shoes, bring bug spray. Bring extra fans if you are a cold sleeper. Our tent didn't have any heating or cooling so we moderated that ourselves. The resort is an easy 45 mins away from Yosemite and a great way to unwind or get ready for the day. Can't recommend enough and I will be back!

Natalie S.

Yelp
If I could give this place 10 stars, I would! The person at the front desk was extremely helpful at check in, gave us good directions around the property and to the park. The restaurant (Junebug Cafe) was absolutely delicious with incredible service, fresh ingredients, and great portions to follow a long day of hiking. We stayed in a heated tent cabin and it felt like we were back at summer camp in all the best ways. We would plan a trip back here in a heartbeat. Would recommend to anyone visiting Yosemite Valley or just looking for a mountain getaway.

KT N.

Yelp
LOVE this resort! The rooms are very nice (awesome themes), the food served @ June Bug Cafe is delicious + fresh, and the overall atmosphere across the resort is so relaxing. One of the owners (Caroline) was extremely helpful from start to finish in planning an event for our family. Everything was flawless and easy thanks to Caroline and the rest of the staff. I can't wait to come back!

Rblovely C.

Yelp
We had an awesome time here!! We stayed at the Half Dome cabin B and it was very clean. Love the mattress and pillows were so comfortable. We had the best sleep. We were very comfortable and warm inside. A little skeptical at first when we entered our cabin. The furnishings are very old (headboard, bed frame, decorations, portraits, chairs, tables, drawers) I mean they can look old and rustic but it doesn't have to look beat up There were no TV and WiFi was barely there. Or at least have a TV in the cafe. For the price that we paid per night we just expected a little more. Our overall stay was fantastic. Would recommend to friends and family. And would come back here again.

Chris K.

Yelp
We stayed here with our Girl Scout group. We got a good deal since it was the off season . The next week we left it was completely booked till September. We stayed in May . We slept in bunk bed style dorms. Accommodation pretty basic. But can't beat for the price. They have all kinds of rooms and tents. The in house restaurant is Amazing for being in the middle of nowhere. We loved the food and drinks .

Yelp
My family and I had the pleasure of staying at this hostel for 2 nights. I wasn't sure what to expect when we arrived, but I was blown away at the following: * Cleanliness of the entire establishment. * Very well stocked toiletries, such as shampoo, conditioner, body wash and such. * Spa was very tempting and looked beautiful.. even thought we didn't use the facilities. * The food was AMAZING! Better than many restaurants we have frequented. * There was an option of a "trail lunch" that was very hardy and delish * Staff was always happy and accommodating. * Kitchen was very orderly and well stocked with whatever you would need to cook. * Great bargain for all the amenities and location. I would definitely go back again and enjoy all that you his hostel had to offer. You will not be disappointed with booking a reservation! Do it and enjoy the experience like we did! Susan H.

Yelp
Highly recommend Yosemite Bug if you want a rustic cabin in a spacious woody grove but with fresh linens and updated bathrooms. The front desk is extremely helpful (and it makes such a difference!) if you need anything. Also, the 7am-9pm restaurant makes your Yosemite trip so much easier. A delicious hot breakfast before you go and homestyle dinners when you get back means you don't have to worry about healthy meals for the whole family.

Anusha R.

Yelp
This stay is a total steal if you get it. Located conveniently right in the middle of Yosemite park entrance and Mariposa town. The cabin was very clean and the toilets were absolutely clean. The prices were very reasonable for the quality of the stay. It was overall and fun place. I'd recommend to anyone visiting Yosemite. And although we didn't get to eat at the June bug cafe inside, we heard it's good. But they do have a strict timing for the food they serve. I think lunch closes before 1 pm and dinner begins at 6 pm.

Elizabeth H.

Yelp
Loved staying here!! We tent camped on the hilltop and had the greatest stay. Large campsites with picnic tables and gorgeous star gazing at night. It was a treat to have real showers and the hostel kitchen available during our stay, and everything was super clean and well stocked. June Bug Cafe was AWESOME!! Wifi was reliable, not super fast but sufficed for remote work. And all the staff we interacted with were super nice. Would recommend highly and will come back!

Ron B.

Yelp
What an amazing place, its rustic and affordable. All of the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant was fantastic. The food was great and clean. In the 3 days I was there the menu had small changes daily, to keep things changing and maintaining fresh ingredients. No Fried Crap.....I will come back for the food alone. I have stayed closer to the park in the more expensive hotels and I will never do that again. It does take about 30 minutes to get the Yosemite entrance gate. They do have a YART stop right in front of the property entrance.

Yelp
This is an awesome place with HORRIBLE WiFi. If you have responsibilities that require you to remain tethered, DONT stay here. You're not the target audience. It's a beautiful awesome place. Sad for you if you need wifi. Will return when I can plan on spotty access to the grid.

Yelp
Booked a two-night stay here for a last-minute trip to Yosemite in April. Lodging was comfortable, and each of the cabins have a unique theme. Do note that the picture you see on the website of the cabin you book may not be the cabin that will be assigned to you at check-in. We booked a cabin that we thought was craftsman in style and instead got a cabin that looked like Grandma's house...lace and rose patterned wallpaper. Not something I would have chosen. When we asked about this after seeing the cabin, the response was "yeah...the cabin theme that you booked doesn't even exist anymore". We were able to switch cabins the second night, and got a fun Steampunk themed cabin. I think they should play up the unique themed cabins and update their website to reflect current offerings as we felt this is what made the place stand out from the standard hotel offerings nearby. There is a communal kitchen if you want to bring your own food, or you can choose to dine at their on-site restaurant - which was wonderful! The menu was inventive for what you would expect of the area, and changes daily. Portions were HUGE.

Yelp
We had our wedding at The Bug in October. It could not have been more perfect. Having lodging, catering (food and alcohol), and the venue all in one made it so easy. Caroline was great to work with, so attentive and helpful. All of our guests (even the skeptics who didn't want to "camp" for a wedding) were floored by the quality of the cabins and food, and many said they want to make more trips to The Bug now that they know it's there. Having a wedding at The Bug was like having a village of all our friends for a weekend. It was so much fun, I wish we could do it all again. I cannot recommend The Bug highly enough; I'm sure we'll be back many times in the future.

Yelp
The first night of arrival the power was out for hours. No big deal, it was almost romantic by candlelight. But the tubs we're closed which was the main draw. However the cafe refused to charge our room and feed us dinner- they would only accept exact change in cash (it's not like there's another food option nearby!). So we ate blueberries by the light of our phones. Fast forward 20hrs- they evacuated the resort related to a near by fire and didn't notify ANYONE! No phone call text or email! We arrive at the roadblock having spent the day hiking in Yosemite to discover that my vehicle was locked inside! Why would you lock a car inside a gate especially when there was plenty of time to evacuate? The employees evacuated the place within an hour and threw the guests belonging into bags, but legit left behind tons of belongings (we went back in to get my car after an hour of running around to find half my clothes were still in the room). Idk if it was the managers house or the owners we retrieved our belongings from but those people were not in the least worried about their guests. When I asked why they didn't call everyone they replied "oh we didn't have time" as he's standing in the driveway playing with his dog. I also asked why they didn't have any idea that 6hrs after we left we might need to evacuate, and he replied " well we told our employees to let people know that the fire was getting closer"- which was just bullshit bc no one said anything to us. We were at the reception desk twice that morning asking questions and the only thing they said was that it was a brushfire they would have out soon. Also, no refund issued 9 days later. At least refund people's money! Having been in the Tubbs fire I can attest that this scene was a shit show. Totally unnecessary and done with so much carelessness around the entire scene. If you have a resort in fire country you better have a plan to protect your guests. Be better.

Yelp
Wonderful place to stay outside of Yosemite. About 30 minutes to the west gate. Nice kitchen facility for making your own meals. Excellent restaurant for when you don't. Bathrooms are spotless. The tent cabin were well worth $65 a night. No idea about any of the other accomodations. They looked very well kept up. Stay at the Bug.

Yelp
Waste of money. Everything about this place is ghetto. They advertise super faster internet, BIG FAT LIE! Internet only works in certain spots, my cabin had no usable internet which made my stay after a hike BORING. No TV, no cable no nothing. The room is dirty, I walked barefoot in my room and my feet looked like I was walking outside. The rooms furniture is full really old shitty furniture that is ready to be donated. Overall I feel my vacation was ruined by this place.

Yelp
Had an appt for a couples hot tub Got there early. Checked in at lodge Two sweet young women tell us we're 20 minutes early. At appointment time one tells us the guy didn't show up to fill it I'm sorry why wouldn't they have checked instead of chatting?! The tub looks gross They rustic vibe felt dirty to us They refunded us & we left My point is how bad customer service was And they couldn't have cared less My suggestion is be prepared for a very large metal tub in a room that looks eh Idk who owns this place but jeez

Yelp
I dislike leaving negative reviews for a business, as I realize it can impact its success or failure. But as someone who formerly frequented this establishment's cafe numerous times as well as having attended a music-related event there, I felt it important to relate my first (and last) experience of attempting to get accommodations there during the Creek Fire, which led to thousands of people being evacuated from their homes. I had always wanted to stay at the Bug as a guest, so I thought what better opportunity than an evacuation to see if they had a vacancy and to potentially enjoy my evacuation time as best as possible. On the afternoon of Tuesday, September 8th, I phoned to see what was available. A seemingly kind woman took my call and explained that they did indeed have vacancies and that it would be alright if I brought my cat, which I was transporting in a carrier. She even said that if I stayed through the weekend (which I planned on doing) they would waive the bump in rates for me. After the phone discussion, I informed the nice lady I would see her within the hour. I drove up from Oakhurst, stopped at the local supermarket in Mariposa for a few things to take to the room, and headed up to Midpines. I should mention that I am partially disabled from a spine condition and was beyond exhausted by the time I made it to the front desk of the bug. I hobbled in on my cane, very glad to finally see an end to my roaming about looking for a place to stay. The "nice lady" to whom I spoke on the phone was nowhere to be found, and I instead was coldly greeted by a young girl and a man, both of whom behaved as if someone had peed in their corn flakes that morning. I was advised that there would be a $200 deposit for my cat (I was not told this on the phone), but was informed it would be returned if there were no damages incurred. This brief exchange was almost hostile on the part of the man, and the man and the younger woman behind the desk continued to regard me as if I had a third eye. There was certainly no warmth to be found, to say nothing of any sympathy for my predicament. I realized that access to some of the rooms is had only by making one's way up very steep flights of steps, and with my condition, I inquired if I could get something a little more easily accessed. The answer was yes, but that the rate would go up by nearly $75. Again, no empathy, no "sorry for your predicament," and continued cold stares. Following this exchange, I decided I did not want to stay at the Bug after all and walked out, with nary a word said by either person who had glowered at me from behind the desk this entire time. About five minutes into my drive back to Mariposa, I decided to call and let them know exactly how I felt about what had transpired. Again, there was no form of an apology or anything -- just silence on the other end of the line. Thus, I feel this review is the only way I can make known what happened to an exhausted and handicapped evacuee at the Bug Hostel. As I explained to the person on the phone when I called back (likely the young woman behind the counter), I will never set foot on their property again and would make sure anyone who wanted to go there, but had not, would hear this tale.

Yelp
I never write reviews, but needed to for this resort. Driving in at night was dangerous as the roads were narrow on a hillside and not lit. The breakfast buffet was lacking, The pillows were like concrete, our shower was the worst!!! The water pressure was so bad I opted not to wash my hair or I'd be in there forever! When the shower was running there was a strange clanking/banging sound under our cabin. And during the night there was a loud generator sound outside our bedroom window. The third day we were there the power and water shut off all day. So we had to cook everything we had left in the shared kitchen so our food would spoil. The only positives I have were the trails around the resort. And our cabin had a great view. Lastly not the resorts fault. But there was a rockslide down the road. So instead of what should have been an hour to Yosemite, turned into over a 3 hr trip to Yosemite

Yelp
Madeline wrote down my order but never made it. After 20mins I asked where my food was and they didn't even have the ticket anymore. they didn't offer anything for the mistake and just said she couldn't hear me even though she did and wrote my order down. I will never come here again because of Madeline. Horrible customer service I'm so disappointed and upset and she didn't care at all that she ruined my night

Yelp
Love this place! We decided to stay in a tent cabin right after the first snowfall last week... We brought a space heater and there were down comforters in the unheated tent cabin. We also brought our sleeping bags. A little chilly in the morning and when you went to bed but other than that it was great! The June bug café was darling and we had all our dinners there. Great selection of food. Community showers and restrooms were clean. They have done a nice job with COVID-19 restrictions. I would absolutely stay here again.

Yelp
It is precisely COVID-19 concerns that that have me debating between 2 and 3 stars, and here is my dilemma. The room I stayed in has a very comfortable bed and presents very nicely, until you pull the sheet back. I say sheet like it's a thing. It isn't. The bed is made with two bottom sheets and a down comforter. No top sheet. So this is worrisome. The 3 star optimist says they use two bottom sheets to protect the excellent memory foam mattress. The cynic thinks they turn the room around by removing one of the bottom sheets. The optimist thinks they must wash this down comforter between every guest. The cynic lies awake at night wondering how many people have alternately roasted and froze directly beneath the powerful AC unit, perspiring into this same comforter. The optimist says to himself "this is Covid times, of course they are extra diligent in deep cleaning- a sentiment no doubt echoed by the front desk / management. The cynic, however has had to remove a toothbrush and case from the drawer and dispose of it. Disgusting. And worrisome because it becomes obvious that there is greater cause for cynicism based on this discovery. In normal times, the optimist finds it easy to dismiss stuff like this. In these times, the cynic is headed for a COVID test. If you stay here, you should too. Or should I say "two".

Yelp
super uneven. Service at desk was fine, service in the restaurant very uneven - to the point of rude. Sitting outside at the tables for customers, only to have staff come out to smoke their cigarettes right next to us. Smoking also a challenge at my room - the next door occupant was a heavy smoker which meant I couldn't leave my door open to let fresh air in and couldn't get the windows open. The lay-out of the place makes it hard to designate smoking areas, but that is really what needs to happen so those who actually want to breath the fresh air can. Food was fine - lots of it, and vegetarian & vegan options - kinda pricey for what it was, but captive audience, and equivalent to prices in town. The sack lunches are a good option, and beer/wine prices reasonable. They have different decor for the rooms which ranges from mildly charming to downright weird. Wi-fi is an issue, but seemed most consistent in the restaurant. Ditto what others have said about the inverse ratio of rooms/beds to parking and the overflow parking being ridiculously located especially if you arrive at night. I thought it was strange that the beds did not have a top sheet, possibly they change the comforter cover with each guest, but this definitely gave me pause. And then I got mysterious bites on my foot and torso and they couldn't be bothered to even apologize to hear that in the email. Just "our housekeeping will check." So here it is for all of you to decide if it's worth your $. The Bug Loop trail around the property is nice, however it definitely has some steep and uneven parts, and the map and trail signage make it not so simple to navigate at points. I wouldn't recommend it for young children or people who are looking for a short easy loop. Lots of international travelers here, so obviously it's a draw for its ease of access to Yosemite and non-car transportation. It really has an old campground feel to it - good and bad. I know that it's really tough to keep places like this going with the challenges of seasonality, fires, floods, etc. So it's not the worst place, it's not the best place - if you go just set your expectations appropriately and you'll be fine.

Yelp
Owner and staff are just super helpful and chill. rooms don't have TVs which to me is probably a bonus... Food at the cafe is great. Shared kitchen is legit AF, three gas stove/ovens, two microwaves, plenty of prep space. Depending on construction traffic 35-60 min to Yosemite front gate. Can't go wrong here.

Julia W.

Yelp
Cons: people were yelling, and music was blaring (sounds like a LOUD carnival) at night. If you would like rest, I suggest you find a different place to stay. If you would like to start your ventures in Yosemite exhausted AF, then be Yosemite Bug Rustic's guest. Pros: great common kitchen space, we had an awesome dinner, the beds were comfortable, and the blankets were actually warm enough for me! Most neighbors are very kind and friendly. The bathrooms and showers are very clean and nice. I didn't have to wait for a shower and the water was warm!

Yelp
This place is cute and quaint! Very rustic! The tent cabins are clean and nice. The food at the grill is pretty good too. Bathrooms are very nice and a/c in there is cool. The staff at the office is not friendly they seemed disgruntled anytime we asked questions. I asked for the closest water source like a river, they mentioned some hike to "the hornets nest" but didn't mention THE MERCED RIVER half an hours drive from the resort!!! We had to downgrade to a smaller cabin for our last night. The staff kept telling us different things: first we were told we could check out of our tent cabin and move to the new tent cabin at 10 am but when we checked out they said we had to wait until 3 pm that afternoon. They told us the shuttle to Yosemite was 45 minutes it was closer to 1.5 hours each way. Side note: Sometimes the YARTS shuttle a/c breaks down so check before boarding if you care on the way back from the park (no choice on the way there due to limited shuttles). It was unbearably hot at the resort we are talking 90s-100s Yosemite was 90 at the hottest with nice breezes and cooler temps at higher elevations. At the bug we had to downgrade to a smaller tent cabin the last night of our stay because they were "booked" but the tent cabin next to us the first two nights was empty. (Perhaps needed maintenance?). The Yosemite tent cabins are the closest to the bathrooms but, right next to a junk storage area visible from the cabins. The lower tent cabins Nevada Falls were faaaar from the bathrooms. This site is nice all in all it was fine for what it was. Just disappointed by the office staff.

Yelp
2nd time we brought a group of international high school students to visit Yosemite, and we stayed at the Bug. This is a great place to bring a group. We had two 12 person bunkhouses, and 3 other rooms up top, two 4 person and one 6 person rooms. The bunk beds have memory foam matresses and were very comfortable. The 12 person bunkhouses have 2 bathrooms in each to share and a common sink. The other rooms in the upper cabin are a little harder, as they have spiral staircases up to the rooms, and the bathrooms and showers are private, but downstairs and accessed from the outside. It's a little bit uncomfortable in the middle of the night to have to go outside, down the stairs to the bathroom. The six-person "Ansel Adams" room had their own bath, which was nice. We had a buffet breakfast and dinner each night, and the food was really good. They made us sack lunches for our day trips to Yosemite. They try to pack each item for your sandwich separately, but they don't use zip-lock bags and instead use plastic wrap, and the tomatoes and pickles leaked out and made the bags soggy. If you have them make lunches, insist on zip-lock bags. Also, tell them to leave off the onions, as they were really potent and made our vans smell very strongly of onion. We had a great bonfire each evening with smores. There is also a spa that some of the kids took advantage of, with a hot tub. You just pay a $9 day pass for it. Outside you can hear the rushing water of the nearby rapids. The place is peaceful and very family oriented. The menu changes nightly, and they take pride in their desserts. We will go back again next year!

Yelp
I really like this place. We stayed in a cabin on stilts with a bathroom and a swamp cooler. Beds we comfy like a cruise ship bed. It has hostel set ups that are really cool. We utilized the kitchen and it is set up nice. There is a large firepit that you can get some smores going. Each night family groups had one raging. Look. This place isn't brand new, but it gets it right in the right places. Oh, by the way, the food is amazing! It's not cheap, but it is way better food than you think when you roll in. We left happy.

Ombeline M.

Yelp
Really nice and peaceful place. It was a great experience ! The bathroom and toilets are clean, the housings also. The food at the restaurant is perfect, big plates for an accessible price! It not far away from Yosemite and jas a nice view on the top parking. I really recomand this place!

James D.

Yelp
Went there with a friend. We were out hiking most of the time so I couldn't say much about the services or the functions per se. However, during our checkout, we found out (unfortunately for us) that the lady at the front desk was quick to lose her temper. She started yelling to my friend for no reason, perhaps since she was swamped by whatever else she was trying to deal with. Upon asking her to calm down, she told me to get out. Really, to get out, for asking her to calm down? I haven't seen anyone with worse temper when they're not drunk. Just for the way they treat their customers, I'd definitely advice you to stay away from this place.
