The Ahwahnee Is One of the Most Haunted Places in California

Great history of Yosemite National Park. Early pioneers which shaped the area. I was able to speak with a couple who gave me all the great details of the people buried here. It is located across the street and just west of the Yosemite Museum. Buried here include Native Americans, casual park visitors, and people who played important roles in the development of what is now Yosemite National Park. Please consider liking my review /pictures and follow along on all my adventures. Jeff Mullins Photography. It's All About the Adventures!

Somber place right near Yosemite falls, left past the museum.

Historically white settlers brought to the valley the usual development that they used in the encroachment of the west - farming, ranching, commercial development, in addition to tourism. Today only tourism and rock climbing survives but the deceased from the 'settlement' era are interred in the Yosemite Cemetery. Most of the graves are modest and quite a few are unnamed. Local guides know the stories of many of the interred such as Crippen (see photos) who bled to death from a cut foot. The cemetery It is an interesting artifact of a bygone era.

The Yosemite village cemetery is hidden on the outskirts of the village area. There are old markers and it's a neat historical point of interest. IG:SACRAMENTOHONEY

They really missed an opportunity to call this the "Yosemetary".

Yelp
Peaceful and quiet. It was great, but to be honest, the place was dead. A++++++++++

Yelp
Worth a visit, especially once the sun has set. Back in '92, my girlfriend and I walked over some graves and she told me it was bad luck. We both lost a parent less than a year later. So, be careful. Unless you're Ivanka Trump, then go for it. The buried include Native Americans, visitors, and people integral to the park's history, including Jebidiah Yosemite, for whom the park was named. Maybe, maybe not- you're better off buying or borrow a guide at the Valley Visitor Center.

Yelp
Awesome cemetery with native and white people graves. Check out the one for George Anderson, the first man to summit Half Dome.

Yelp
I like cemeteries, so I was interested in seeing Yosemite's original cemetery. It's tiny and rather easy to miss but a nice, quick place to get a sense of the history of the park. There aren't too many graves but they date from 1870 to the early 1900s, and include the original settlers (e.g., people who worked in the park early on and their families) and some Native Americans. The stone for the headstones comes from Yosemite Park. The cemetery area is fairly quiet and more peaceful than other areas of the park.

Yelp
Nice place to go for a walk to be alone, usually. Not a lot of folks go to the cemetery, but those that do are usually one of three types - the Yosemite History Geek, The Yosemite Completist, and The Wanderer. The History Geek is there because they want to see the burial place of so many significant figures of Yosemite history, led by the legendary Galen Clark. The Completist just wants to experience EVERYTHING in the Valley. The Wandered finds themselves at the Yosemite Museum, might see a path and will walk along it. It's a beautiful thing to do that. The best thing, this isn't the kind of place where you'd find a lot of screaming' kids, which would be terrible and disrespectful, but it's a place where you might find folks having a walk, thinking' and enjoying a bit of time away. It's not flashy, and not for everyone, but it's a great place to spend some time.
