It was my first Ryokan experience, so not sure my praise is too valid. This was an astounding experience. The service from the staff was impeccable. They spoke quite good English as well. The room was a stylish and large traditional japanese tatami mat room, and with a great view to their amazing garden. The garden is a sight to behold. Take a stroll before and after sunset to see the visual in both cases. The Onsen was also one of the nicer ones I've been to. The hotel feels old, because it is. But it wears it with grace. You won't miss for AC or other amenities. Just enjoy a classy Ryokan

We experienced a very good 3 day stay at this hotel. Staff was very kind and helpful - and especially the people downstairs serving the bathroom were so kind.|Would definitely recommend to at least stay here for 2 days. ||Please note, we had breakfast and diner included, but this is very Japanse and even my Japanse friend told me that this is not typical Japanse food.|As a result, this didn’t fit our overall tastings - would recommend to do this once for the experience - in addition to, it is expensive too.

The hotel has a magnificent garden. I have never seen such a beautiful garden in my life. The Japanese are at a different level of gardening. I have seen many beautiful gardens in Europe but Japan is very, very good at it. Very natural, very peaceful, very calm. The garden looks natural and a bit wild, but at the same time it is well organized. My congratulations and respect to the person who is the architect of this wonderful state of the garden. He obviously puts a lot of effort into the garden. When we were there, he was working on the lawn and he was doing it with great care one by one with the garden shears. Again, I thank him for this magnificent garden. The pool outside as an onsen is magnificent. You should definitely go in and try it. Very clean and beautiful. If you have time, I suggest you have a massage. The massage lady is an expert. I was so relaxed during the massage that I fell asleep 3 times:) Make a reservation with a meal and have a full Japanese experience. It's delicious. It was a pleasure to stay in a Japanese style room.

I very much enjoyed this stay. It has the most beautiful gardens within the hotel, with streams and imperial bonsai trees. The hotel has public hot spring pools, which hotel guests can visit (provided they are free of tattoos). Since I have lots of them, I could not visit the public pool, however, the room we booked had a private hot spring bath and that was wonderful! If you can, book a Japanese style room (I was too late to book that one) and also an included meal (I was late for that, since there is a limit in occupancy and they cannot cater for all hotel guests). One is given a kimono one wears indoors and the whole atmosphere felt very authentic. I’d visit again.

I rarely give poor reviews so want to take time to give the breakdown of why I chose a 3. My boyfriend and I booked this location for the end of our 2 weeks in Japan so we were so looking forward to this experience to end the trip. I would use the word underwhelmed for this experience. Let be begin with the good things … Service - outstanding! Everyone was so friendly and helpful - best part about being here. Garden- absolutely beautiful and well kept - obviously the peak of this location. Food / meals - very well done - authentic and fine dining. You must be adventurous and try all or you will not get the full experience Women’s onsen was nice but we opted for the private rooms which were nice Everything was very clean!!! Now for the not so great parts .. Room key - is huge! Looks like gas station key you see in America Rooms and general hotel - dated - not updated in a long time! On boarding and signs are the hotel are just cheesy and devalue the location and brand - vending machines and weird Signs are everywhere - gives you cheap hotel vibes Spa - it’s not a spa - it’s a 3rd party person who comes in but it’s not great and feels cheap I just felt very mislead when I booked this location and wanted to share with others so you could do more research

Wonderful place, wonderful experience! I’m so happy I chose Yoshiike Ryokan for my stay in Hakone. It’s pricey but worth it! It was honestly so much bigger than I expected, it has 3 wings. So it’s more like a resort rather than an inn. It can be harder to navigate and you might have to spend some time wandering the hallways to get to dinner/onsen/reception. The garden was the absolute highlight, it’s honestly a work of art. So much respect to the gardening staff for maintaining such a big and beautiful garden. It was unlike anything I’ve seen. Definitely put some time aside to explore this garden. I chose to have the Kaiseki dinner and breakfast. It needs to be booked in advance along with the room reservation. I’m very glad I did, it was an absolute treat. The dinner was basically many courses back-to-back. The dishes were carefully crafted, an authentic taste of Japan you can’t get anywhere else really. Along dinner, you’re given a menu for drinks and their seasonal recommendations. I got the recommended sake. Please keep in mind that the meals are not customizable. Especially if you prefer Western food, it’s best to not get kaiseki dinner and book another restaurant close by in advance. Breakfast was also very traditionally Japanese. It was served only until 8:30 which was very early for me personally but it is what it is. Seems to be a standard practice to serve breakfast so early in Ryokans. Room was very comfortable, my futon was laid out by the staff while I was out for dinner. The views out my window were breathtaking. The provided amenities could be improved though, there were very limited. The onsen was great, with the option of both indoor and outdoor baths. Water was a very comfortable temperature and silky smooth. Again, the amenities could be improved. There is a nice lounge nearby reception, where they provide many types of drinks, which you can also take up to your room. I thought it was a nice touch. All in all, I was very happy with my stay. My only problem with it could be the time I had to spend walking around the hotel. But it’s not that big of an issue given the sheer size of the hotel.

I only enjoyed the onsen, but I can consider it one of the most beautiful and high-quality places I have visited. The atmosphere is perfect, with gorgeous and inspiring gardens. The onsen is separated for men and women and exceeds expectations, and there is also a shared pool area where families can enjoy themselves. The hot water and all the amenities make the place truly special.

The women’s public baths have two inside and two outside. They are both very pleasant. I wish they had a cool pool for plunging during summer. I also wish I had brought a swimsuit to use the communal pool. They allowed my two small tattoos to go uncovered and for that I’m thankful. It did feel a little awkward for just day use - that might just be me though. Although they said ticket covered the whole day, they seemed uncomfortable when I asked if I could come back later in the day so I would consider this one entrance only but use for however long you like. On a weekday afternoon we had the whole public baths to ourselves.
