Yoshikien Garden

A valuable experience especially it is free admission. You must come here, it doesn’t get too crowded since people just come and go. There are seating availble when you want to pause for a moment and there are resting areas and toilet too.

Such an amazing garden with a peaceful vibe. will never regret a visit; it has free entrance, and I had never seen such a well maintained garden before. Definitely worth a visit in Nara🦌

Beautiful garden away from the crowds of Nara Park. Completely free and with such a serene environment within. There are also free public restrooms inside with zero queues! Highly recommend taking a stroll through here to reset after fending off the deer

A beautiful manicured garden in Nara We have visited this garden during our trip to Nara at the end of June 2025. We have entered at the very end of the day just an hour before closing and found ourselves among very few other visitors in the garden. The attention to detail is impressive - beautiful selection of plants as well as some wildlife- butterflies, bees, lizards and fish in the pond. Given more time and less hot day I would really enjoy an opportunity to sit down and meditate whilst admiring the scenery.

This charming former private residence, now a city-owned property, offers a delightful house and extensive garden free of charge to the public, as per the owner's wishes. Upon entering, visitors can ascend to an elevated gazebo for a picturesque view of the house and a portion of the garden.

Yoshikien Garden is close to the Todai-ji Temple and Nara National Museum. I was interested in checking it out since it had free admission. The garden is small but beautiful. A rocky path leads you around shady greenery. There are some benches to rest a little. I found it interesting how the garden has wooden structures supporting the branches of some trees. It made me appreciate the amount of detail that went into the art of gardening here. Gazing up at the trees was a peaceful experience during this short stop in Nara Park.

Yoshikien Garden Another place to visit, next to Isuien Garden and is free witj your passport. This garden is small, but nice to explore the grounds at your leisure. Overall, this is a great Japanese garden.

Yoshikien Garden is another place that I recommend you visit, and it's right next to Isuien Garden ... only that this place is FREE if you present your passport (free for foreign tourists). This garden is smaller than Isuien, so one thing that I wished we did was go here first before Isuien, because my impression of this place (although it was still pretty), was a little underwhelming since Isuien had more grounds for you to explore. Overall, this is a great Japanese garden for you to visit.

Hidden Gem and in my opinion, best thing to do in Nara. Most people come to Nara to see deer. I am not so much into animals, as I am peaceful and relaxing experiences. I had Isuien garden on my list to visit and just my luck, it was closed on the day I went to Nara. I discovered this garden right next door and went. For some odd reason, they require you to show ID and prove you're a foreigner, I obliged and my mother and I spent about an hour here, just taking in the beauty and nature of the area. It's a great spot for meditation or just relaxing and in contrast to Isuien, is free for Gaijin. My favourite spot in Nara.

A lovely and free garden that's immediately adjacent to Isui-en. I'd recommend visiting this one first since Isui-en is slightly more impressive. Yoshikien is free for foreign tourists, but Isui-en has a fee.

Yoshikien Garden is a peaceful place to enjoy the natural beauty of Nara. It was highly recommended by the beautiful obachan at the Kintetsu Nara train station and I loved it. It is a strolling garden from the Meiji period and a place to really find your inner peace. I could totally meditate here for hours soaking in the gorgeous maples, koi pond traditional Japanese house and other beautiful scenery. Another tip is that entry is complimentary for foreign visitors--just show your passport! A great place to relax before or afterthe big tourist site of the Todaiji Buddha.

Wait, am I in Japan? A beautiful, free garden? Without crowds? Where am I.... ?! This garden is a welcome respite from the hordes at other sites in Nara. Free for foreigners. Also note there is another garden next door that is NOT free, but you can see a good portion of it from the little trail that runs along the perimeter of Yoshikien!
