This was my first visit to Bangkok, and choosing Peach as my guide was the best decision of my trip. It was 9:00 AM, and I hadn't had breakfast. So, "Peach, can we go find something to eat on the street?" I ended up under an umbrella by a small street cart with steamed fish, greens, sticky rice, and a chili dip. She showed me how to "eat like a Thai," and I, the guy from Minnesota, loved every moment. Originally, I had planned on visiting the Grand Palace by myself, since it's such
a typical tourist destination. Wow, am I glad I went with Peach. She transformed it from looking at pretty buildings to understanding the purpose and history, explaining the segments of the murals, where the king was kept for a year after his death while a cremation site was prepared, and explaining the "demons" and Buddhism. She takes such pride in her culture and history. One of the best parts was when a tourist started touching one of the golden demon statues for a
picture. Wow, Peach quite sweetly burst into action like a superhero and stopped them in their tracks! She's the real deal; she really cares. I was proud of her. Another part of what I wanted to do was learn how to use the BTS Sky Train and the tourist boats on the river. We took the boats twice, and from the top deck, it was a beautiful way to see parts of the city. I can't recommend having a guide enough, and Peach was the best. The cost was about $100 US for about seven hours. Given how little that cost, I gave her a huge tip, and it was still worth every penny.
