I’m a returning client and have only had good and quality work done here but I recently had a very questionable charge. I’ve never felt in the past that I was overcharged but I was recently charged $450 after 45 minutes of tattooing which blew me away. My previous work with the artist was priced less than this or equal to this price but each took 4x the amount of time. But this time after 45 minutes of tattooing on the outer arm I was certainly shocked to be charged $450, plus my tip. Had this been an hourly rate, that’s $600 an hour, or $10 a minute. This put me in a difficult situation because I love all of the work my artist has done and I trust them to price their work appropriately, plus I want to return to this artist in the future. I did not feel comfortable questioning my artist’s price after the work had been finished so I paid it, plus a pretty decent tip on top of that, because that’s what I would have done no matter the price. I left with a tattoo that I’m very, very happy with, and a year from now I won’t care about the price I paid, but I did have a bit of a sour taste in my mouth knowing that I paid $10 per minute, when I had previously paid significantly less. I’m also slightly uncomfortable posting this review because I don’t want to offend my artist by publicly placing a monetary value on their art work, as it’s theirs at the end of the day. I mean no harm to the artist and I hope to return in the future, but I feel like this is something worth mentioning in a review. Prior to my first appointment with this artist I had asked what their rate is and I was told that they don’t give quotes or rates because it’s an easy way to undercharge or overcharge and also size and placement has an affect. I just wish there was a more concrete rate or method that the shop or artist used to prevent overcharges from happening because I can’t help but feel that I was severely overcharged this time. Still a great shop full of great artists and the space is very nice, I just wish there was more consistency with the pricing, or some sort of rate so I could have more of an expectation to prevent surprises like this from happening.
