We stayed at this hostel for three nights from February 11–13 and had multiple unpleasant experiences with the chef during dinner on February 12 and 13. On the night of February 12, he told our group of 15 that we all had to be present before we could eat, which left us confused. When we asked the receptionist, she simply said it was because the chef didn’t want to explain things repeatedly. However, it was a line setup with dessert, salad, and the main course, so we didn’t understand why we had to wait for everyone—there wasn’t much to explain. This felt unprofessional and showed a lack of basic hospitality.
After speaking with the receptionist, she informed the chef, and we were finally allowed to eat without everyone present. However, he showed noticeable frustration while serving us.
Additionally, we observed that he treated Asian guests differently. When we requested food, he sarcastically gave us a much larger portion than we asked for. He also spoke to us in a noticeably different tone compared to how he treated guests from his own nationality. This kind of behavior made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome.
Other aspects of the hostel may be fine, but the chef’s attitude ruined our experience. If management doesn’t address this issue, I wouldn’t recommend staying here.
