Youth Hostel Basel

First, we paid 190 for a 4-bed room without a bathroom, which seemed like a good deal. Later(at check in, 23h30), because my friend was feeling sick, we decided to upgrade to a 4-bed room with a bathroom. Since it was late, we didn’t really think it through — but the upgrade cost an extra 169, bringing the total to 359 for one night, for a room with one bunk bed and one regular bed. This is honestly crazy. For that price, you can get two bedrooms in a 4-star hotel in the city. The breakfast is a joke. Nothing there and bad quality. To make things worse, when we moved into our room at 23h30, the toilet was dirty, with poop still in it. We complained the next morning and only received a simple “sorry.” Don’t bother staying there.

The hostel is great. I had lost my jewellery there. I had emailed to the reception & they responded. The cleaning staff found the jewellery. They held it for me & I found someone to pick it for me. So grateful to them. Thank you so much.

It is an airy and modern hostel , facilities are OK. The experience was generally good except for the fact that this is pet friendly hostel and unfortunately there were clumps of dog hair underneath one of the bunk beds which went all over my clothes and bags. The buffet dinner portions are also very little and seems you are served judged by your size. We got HALF of a burger , while some were served HALF a sausage. Breakfast was self-service and offer good variety.

Booked private room with private bathroom. Room was dirty. Toilets weren’t cleaned as there was unflushed poop in the toilet. Breakfast was really limited and poor quality. Don’t go there.

Amazing experience. I stayed here for three nights in a room for six. Hostel, surprisingly large building, is located in old and peaceful part of Basel. It's within short walking distance to Rhein river, Munster cathedral and Kunstmuseum tram station. I was given Basel Card at the reception which granted me free access to public transport and 50% discount to all museums. I really liked my room and my bed and I didn't mind the fact there were no curtains. Design of the room is really smart, as personal lockers and sink are separated from the beds/sleeping area with a wooden doors, thus keeping the noise at minimum. To add up, no check-ins are possible after 23:30 which allows you to sleep tight. Toilets and washrooms are on the same floor, just outside of the room in the hall. Breakfast starts at 6.00 am which I found really handy as I checked out early for my flight. Staff was really professional. You can also buy souvenirs at the reception and umbrella as well. I will definitely book again when I come back to Basel. Thank you, Hostel!

Very nice facility. The staff were all very helpful and breakfast was excellent. The hostel manager took a personal interest in assuring a wonderful experience for all. Would absolutely stay there again.

Beautiful design hostel, good service. Quiet location with nature. The common area on the ground floor could be improved; there are plenty of chairs but no soft comfy chairs/sofas and few outlets for charging. Breakfast and BaselCard with FREE public transit is included in the price (this isn't on the website)!

I had a pretty good experience staying at Basel Youth Hostel. The location is convenient, with easy access to public transport and just a short walk to the city center and the Rhine river. The building is modern, clean, and well-designed, with a nice mix of comfort and functionality.The staff were friendly and helpful, and check-in was smooth. My room was tidy and quiet, with comfortable beds and good storage space. I also appreciated the free Wi-Fi and the availability of common areas to relax or get some work done.Breakfast was simple but fresh and satisfying — a good start to the day. I also liked the eco-friendly approach the hostel takes, which added to the overall positive impression.Would definitely recommend it to budget travelers looking for a safe, clean, and well-located place to stay in Basel!
