Youth Hostel Zermatt

Great location with matterhorn view & 15min walking distance from the train station / museum etc. The attached photo of the (cloudy) matterhorn is taken from their cafeteria. Staff understandably busy such as at check-in timing, but are otherwise understanding and helpful. Fridge & kettle for shared use at cafeteria. Lockers available to store baggage without cost - but do have $2 coin on hand for locker deposit!

Great hostel with morning Matterhorn view from our room. Delicious breakfast provided. Only that u have to arrive earlier before 7pm if planning to get a free bus ride to the hostel. Unfortunate for us, we arrive late after 10pm and no more bus available. Thus have to pull our big luggage up hill in 1km distance. But staff is good, we informed for late arrival then they pasted our envelope containing room card access infront of the door. Thanks for that. Then we asked the counter staff for bus schedule next day. Nearest bus station is Luchre, just in front of hotel. can get schedule from SBB apps (Zermat bahnof- Luchre). They also provide free luggage storage after checkout. Great experience in Zermatt and recommended hostel as long as u arrive early 😀

First of all, this place look MUCH better than the pictures. The whole building is new and well furnished instead of the rundown look on the booking website.And the bed is comfy and new. You just have to make your own bed: mattress, pillow and quilt. Locker is spacious too, with partition and hanger.I love how espresso/cappucino is free flow in the breakfast. And the breakfast has a good variety tho basic: different cheeses/ham, breads, jams etc, enough to keep me not bored for two nights.The staffs at reception were mostly helpful and vibrant in personality as well.There are fridge in the dining room too, which is a very important feature for guests staying in youth hostel. Because saving on food is one of the major reasons guests stay in youth hostel.Another good thing is free luggage storage before check-in and after check-out.That said, there are two huge problem with the hostel: one, the charger in the room. Because the socket is facing down, if one’s using heavy adapter and, even worse, along with a big charger, it’s almost certain to fall. And there’s only one socket on the wall. I was lucky for the 2nd night to switch to that bed, else I had to spend a good 1-2 hours in common area to have my phone/laptop etc charged. To me it’s a design that serves almost no purpose and even arguably insensitive to international traveler. Not sure how they’re gonna fix it for other travelers, but charging is almost #1 travelling need for travelers.The 2nd issue was with the bathroom on the top floor. The automatic light went off way too quickly, and it’s barely sensitive to motion when you’re in the shower cubicle. You have to open the door, and reach your hands out to have it turned back on, when everything is pitch dark. Many including me had talked about it, but no effective action was taken.P/S: From this place to Gornergrat, you have two stations to choose from: Zermatt or Findelbach, the latter is closer and 3.5CHF cheaper, but at the cost of more demanding uphill climbing.

Excellent view from my room, now writing this and waiting for sunrise to show on Matterhorn. Easy 15min walk from train station to hostel. Macdonald fast food & migros supermart along the way. Quite place, can see many stars at night. Most recommended!

Had a really great time there. The room was clean, but it was smaller than I thought. It’s close to the cable car station but quite uphill though, I had only a backpack so it was fine, but people with suitcases should reconsider.

A Simple and Convenient Stay During a ski trip, we found ourselves unexpectedly stuck in Zermatt for the night, and this hostel was the first recommendation we received. It turned out to be a great choice! The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, quickly resolving our situation and offering a very reasonable price for the quality provided. While the hostel isn’t fancy, it covers all the basics, which was exactly what we needed. The stay included breakfast, and we paid around 90 CHF (95€) for two people—great value for the location. The hostel is easily accessible and within walking distance of the city center, making it very convenient. If you’re looking for a simple, no-frills place to stay, this hostel is a solid option.

Beware!! 1. No Lift 2. No Kitchen 3. Unfriendly Staff 4. No lockers (They have but they dont work) 5. Too much stairs to get to the hostel, totally not recommended with luggage. 6. Too much stairs again, to get to the room 7. Very small rooms, almost no space to open your luggage. 8. Very small table in the room, no place to eat/read or do anything. 9. No private bathroom/shower/WC

We did not sleep properly during our entire stay (6 nights) in the main building... A real nightmare! The noise and incivility of customers were hallucinating. Gymnasians from Geneva arrived with their speakers during the meals and the tronitruant return at 4:30 am of partygoers shouting in the corridors... One of the worst experiences we have had in Switzerland.

This place served its purpose for young travelers in Zermatt. They had separate male and female rooms which we really appreciated. The view from the room alone was honestly worth dealing with any of the flaws. Very big breakfast included and you can eat as much as you want, but it's the same exact things every day so it did get boring, but it's FREE. There was this granola yogurt that I could've easily gotten addicted to so good. They didn't have an elevator and we had a huge suitcase with our room on the fourth floor. There was no one to offer us any help either. Our only option was to take stuff out of the suitcase and then keep it in their free lockers downstairs. Slightly annoying if you're traveling to vacation rather than explore, but I can't complain. There's a bus stop right next to it that takes you down to and up so you don't have to climb all the stairs/uphill lol, but it's only like a 10 min walk from everything.

Inexpensive compared to other hotel/hostel/bnb options in Zermatt. Nothing fancy here just the bare minimum to get you through your stay. My boyfriend and I stayed in a private double room. It was clean with its own sink and shared toilets and showers. Free breakfast included complete w bread, sliced meats, cheeses, yogurts, cereals, juices and coffee. Laundry on site also ($) but the machines are quite old and the dryer didn't do much drying. Definitely worth staying here if you're on a budget!

Nothing special but I had an affordable place to stay for the night. Breakfast was great. I highly recommend them and I will definitely stay there again and in other youth hostel locations.

Not a bad hostel, food is adequate, rooms are clean and the welcome friendly. Winkelmatten is a little out from the village centre and the hostel sits on the side of the valley. I was in a room for 10 facing towards the Matterhorn and woke up to the classic view through the window, something you can't do from the expensive hotels in the village centre.
