Yrjönkatu Swimming Hall

My favourite place in Helsinki. I was afraid that after the renovation it would loose its charm, but no, it was planned and executed with care. You’d barely notice something changed and changes are all in a positive direction. I love how compact and simple the place is. It is very quiet and chill, no kids, only silent women chatters. Every time I leave from here happy and relaxed. Staff has always been kind and respectful.

It’s got a cool Roman-bath energy—mostly nude, totally chill, and completely judgement-free, whether you wear swimming shorts or not.

Super crowded, unfriendly staff. People were treated like cows. Also hugely overpriced entry fees does not justify the cramped and non user friendly premises. Please avoid at all costs. There is 20 others swimming halls 3 times cheaper and with Friendly staff available in 5 km radious

Built 1928, this is the oldest public swimming hall in Finland. Beautiful classic interior by Väinö Vähäkallio. It’s worth to pay the extra fee for the entrance to the second floor as it has a real wood fired once heated sauna stove - a rarity in the city centre. Men and women have separate days as you swim naked. The cafe serves traditional dishes and is worth trying. Edit: after the renovation the place has been very popular: we cued 45 minutes and only 1 in our group got a ticket upstairs, the rest needed to go downstairs. So please buy a ticket in advance if you want to go upstairs. The renovation is well done. The service was very rude. If you don’t like your job, maybe you should try to find another job. My foreign friends were horrified about the cashier’s attitude. 😬

Would get 5 stars if the time would be 3 hours instead of 2. The wood traditional sauna on the 2nd floor is my favourite, you can get a good heat there! The bathrooms smells little moldy and the steam sauna as well, my sister loved the infrapuna light sauna, that you need to spend a longer time to feel the warm coming to your body. The best thing is to swim freely naked in a relaxing atmosphere. Upper level there is a possibility to order drinks and food but I d need the extra hour so that i would have had time to eat. Lovely architecture and old feeling in the building.

A little difficult for me to find initially but a great place to swim and try the sauna. Came on a Monday so the second floor (with the wood sauna) wasn't open. Bring your own towels and toiletries!

Check the website for detailed opening hours. Opening hours are divided into men and woman sessions. Because it’s gender separated, clothing is optional. A beautiful swimming hall with fair prices, perfect for a swimming session.
