"A larger sister property with 193 rooms across 18 floors, this hotel offers onsen facilities that include a rooftop rotenburo (open-air bath) and uses onsen water sourced from Hakone. Located about a 15-minute walk from Shinjuku Station—a major transit hub—the hotel combines the convenience of easy city access with traditional touches and midrange pricing, making it a practical choice for travelers seeking onsen amenities without leaving the urban core." - Yukari Sakamoto

I absolutely *loved* our stay here. From the rooftop onsen, with a fabulous views across Tokyo, to the lovely little extras (like the free ice-cream after the onsen, and 10pm treats). The entrance and lobby are just beautiful, a calm oasis after the madness of Tokyo. The location is perfect - far enough away from the busiest streets to be quiet at night, but close enough to be in the thick of things. Our road had a wonderful izakaya, a fantastic ramen place, and a gem of a breakfast cafe on it, as well as the obligatory 7-elevens, and was very close to the Shinjuku Gyoen National Gardens. Our room was tiny, but we knew this making the booking - I would advise paying close attention to the room size, so that you know what you're getting when you make the booking. There are much larger rooms available, for a higher price. The difference in room size could make a big difference to your stay, if you have a lot of luggage (which we didn't).I will absolutely stay here again, next time I'm in Tokyo.

We spent four nights at Yuen Shinjuku and, unfortunately, our experience did not meet our expectations. While the hotel indeed has modern and recently built facilities, we found several aspects disappointing. First, the room was significantly smaller than expected. Even with relatively compact luggage, we struggled to find space and stay organized during our stay. The room layout does not seem suitable for either short or longer stays. Second, the overall service left much to be desired. The reception staff was not particularly friendly, and both check-in and check-out were self-service via a machine, which turned out to be slower and less intuitive than a standard process with human assistance. However, the most frustrating issue—and something we had already read in previous reviews—is the elevator situation. For an 18-floor building, there are only two elevators, which are used not only by guests but also by all hotel staff, including housekeeping. This results in long waits and multiple stops before reaching your floor, often due to staff use rather than guests. This severely impacted our overall comfort and daily experience at the hotel. Overall, while the aesthetics of the property are appealing, the practical and service-related shortcomings made our stay disappointing.

Fantastic location with easy access to both Shinjuku Sanchome and Shinjuku Gyoen stations, Shinjuku commercial area is also within 15 mins walk. Convenience is unbeatable - there's a 7-Eleven right across the street, plus another 7-Eleven, Family Mart and Lawson just down the road. The breakfast is hearty and delicious, a great way to start the day. Like most hotels in Japan, the standard room is on the smaller side, but the double room is spacious enough for great comfort and also offers lovely city view. The onsen is a real highlight - especially the rooftop outdoor bath, which is perfect for unwinding after a day out. Highly recommended for comfort, convenience and a touch of relaxation!

A Wonderful welcome to Japan. Arriving late, seamless check in from the polite staff in attendance. Breakfast is superb in a tranquil, light filled space, hard to believe this oasis is in the middle of bustling Tokyo. The Tanabata tree at the entrance was a special touch. Room and amenities, especially the Yukata were ideal. The rooftop Onsen and the ice candy too. All staff were friendly and charming, highly recommended.

Google
Exceeded our expectations in Tokyo. Felt like a quiet oasis in the middle of busy Shinjuku. The onsen was fabulous, quiet, and the free pops with the view so good. Beds were comfortable and room well set up. We had dinner at the restaurant and it was delicious.

We had a clean and pleasant stay at Onsen Ryokan Yuen Shinjuku. The room was spotless and well maintained. The location is perfect, with a convenience store right across the street. The staff were professional and very kind. We really appreciated the laundry facilities on-site, which were super convenient during our trip. The free snacks offered at 10 p.m. were a thoughtful touch. The only downsides were that the bed was just okay in terms of comfort, and there are only two elevators for the whole building, so we sometimes had to wait.

The hotel is close by Shinjuku station - about a ten minute walk. There are also a few konbinis in the area. The hotel is lovely and very relaxing - the view over the city from the outside Onsen at night can't be beaten. It can get a bit busy, but the hotel has a congestion page so you can see how busy the onsens are ahead of time! Obviously, the Onsen is the main draw of this hotel - baskets with towels, socks, and robes are provided in the rooms for your baths, and the women's Onsen is key-card protected. In the evening, there's even ice cream for after your bath! There are also snacks provided during certain hours in the hotels restaurant free of charge. For such a tall hotel, we rarely had issues catching an elevator as they're very spacious! The rooms were a bit small with only local channels, and the entry area is a bit difficult to keep all your luggage in, in order to keep it off the tatami floors. There is also a film layer over the (narrow and long) window so you can get some light in, but can't see out. This may be an artistic choice (It is quite artistic), or it may be because it sounds like there's a schoolyard right next door below the window. Either way, it doesn't really affect things much. The bed is quite plush and comfy, but low to the ground in the Double Room with Small Bed we booked, so if you have mobility issues keep that in mind. Hair dryers are provided in the rooms and Onsen shower rooms.

Google
Absolutely calm oasis in the middle of Tokyo, highly recommend the Onsen was spectacular, at the top of the building looking out onto the Tokyo city at night was magical, as with all rooms with experience in Japan they were very small however you probably could book a slightly larger one if budget permitted, very comfortable beds extremely clean, keep in mind there are no wardrobes and opening up our suitcases was a little challenging as floor space was sparse but all in all would definitely stay again, the calmness the serenity the great food the restaurant for breakfast and dinners was Sublime, they even made special vegetarian meal for us! Service was amazing and around a 10 minute walk to the train station so super easy to get around

Yelp
Spa-like Ryokan (traditional Japanese hotel) with onsite onsen (traditional hot springs pool). The hotel is very zen and clean. It's a newer hotel and felt very welcoming. The rooms are traditional with tatami floors, beds are lower to the ground and, per tradition... tiny. It's a bit hard to get around. We had 3 in our room and we didn't have room for much and had to play tetris with our luggage. We did make it work. We had a small hiccup (our fault) and had to move rooms, which was a bit of a blessing for me, as I got my own room for a night! :D The smaller room had a weird set up as the sink was outside of the bathroom in the middle of the table. It was a nice size for me by myself and was able to get some good rest. Don't forget to look in the big cube, there's toiletries, snacks and a tea set inside. There is a on site restaurant, however, we didn't eat there. It does look beautiful and is near the entrance of the hotel. The hot springs/onsen is on the 18th floor and it is super nice. It has a great view of the city, indoor and outdoor pools, and showers. They also provide popsicles to help cool you off after sessions. Yukata (robes), socks and slippers are available in the hotel room. Service was friendly throughout. Okui helped us a few times and she is thoughtful, helpful and sweet. She helped make our stay GREAT! We needed some help to reserve shuttles for our big group and she helped with everything from getting quotes to making the reservations. Thank you so much, Okui! There is a 7/11 directly across the street so it is super convenient. They have hot foods, prepared meals and the usual convenience store items. What I do like about the 7/11s in Japan are they have reasonable prices, many food options, and all the conveniences. The location of the hotel is a bit far from the train stations. We walked to 2 of them and they are a bit of a walk, ~15 to 20 min to get to each. There are small stores and restaurants along the way, but it's in a more residential area and quiet! Definitely recommended!

Yelp
4/29/2025 - After comparing two Japanese Hot Springs (ONSEN) Hotels in Izu-Atagawa (伊豆热川) & Izu-Hokkawa (伊豆北川), the rating for this ONSEN Ryokan was adjusted for fairness!

Yelp
Pro: across a 7/11, clean interior, daily room cleaning, washer & dryer, Con: slow elevator, central AC Visiting Japan for the first time and book this place based on the reviews. Upon checking in the staff mostly speaks English and were helpful. The twin bed room can be a bit small but charming. The staff will come in daily to resupply and clean your room. The hotel is across from a seven eleven store which has been helpful in getting snacks. The a few floors there are watering stations and washer and dryer that does cost 100-200 yen to operate. One of the main downside would have to be the slow elevators. There are stairs but they are only for emergency evacuation and there are 18 floors in this hotel so waiting for the elevator is very time consuming. All in all, my experience here has been good and I would recommend people use this place when visiting Japan.

Yelp
Back after 3 year hiatus, this time we splurged on a suite with great city view. Everythjng else remained the same: open-air roof top onsen & good breakfast. Its hard to find true ryokan hotels in Tokyo so you have to book it early. The suite was prob 3 times the size of our previous room: large comfy beds, long sectional sofa, spacious bathroom, large floor to ceiling windows that lets in plenty of natural light, while giving the guests a fantastic view of Tokyo skylines. We stayed 2 nites & used the rooftop bath 2-3 times daily. We ate breakfast there once & the quality remained solid. This has become one of our reg hotel whenever we are in Tokyo Shinjuku. Yelp
After three years, this was my second time staying at this ryokan. I usually don't write updated reviews but this time we got the Yuen Suite. Wow, the size of the room was like a little apartment w/o the kitchen. There were two oversized twin beds(very comfy!), a sofa, tea sitting area, separate toilet, glass bath/shower with two bathroom sinks, and a closet. There was also a little foyer for you to take off your shoes. The room also had a beautiful ceiling-to-floor city view of Shinjuku. It was definitely more spacious and comfortable than the regular twin rooms. The open-air onsen on the 18th floor was awesome as always. It's such a chill feeling when soaking in hot water on a cool night and viewing the Shinjuku skyline. Breakfast at the restaurant was great as well with a two layered bento box. Staff was friendly and very helpful. It has become one of my go-to hotels if I stay in Shinjuku again!

Yelp
1. Clean space with traditional Japanese elements plus modern touches. 2. Rooftop onsen was a wonderful amenity (included in your stay). 3. Rooms run small, but it is standard size for Tokyo.

Yelp
I feel like we really lucked out on our hotels when we were in Tokyo. We had planned our trip super far in advance, and even with all the pre-planning, we were shocked to see how expensive hotels in the city were (especially in comparison to the Philippines). Still, I guess you can say prices were still equal to U.S. prices for hotels. We were recommended by several friends to stay in two areas of Tokyo; Shinjuku or Shibuya - so we decided to split our time apart and stay in both of these neighborhoods while we were there. Our first half of our stay was here at this hotel. Based on the reviews, I knew this was a good contender for the budget that we had in mind. We paid about $150/night, which was relatively cheap considering the location and the fact that it was a brand-new hotel with an onsen. Unlike the United States, these rooms were relatively small. They had very little space to fit a huge suitcase in, so you were almost forced to keep clean and organized here in order for you to be able to walk around your room. The onsen on the rooftop was amazing. I had gone up there to try it out one day and the amenities along with the views of the city was something I had never experienced before. It was so relaxing and a great way to start my day. P.S. The girl's and boys' rooms are separate. Also, if you have tattoos, you must cover it up. They sell cover up tattoo's stickers in the lobby for about $4. The train station is a short 10-minute walk. I think asides the fact that this hotel was brand spanking new, the customer service at this hotel was great. Everyone was friendly and respectable. They have a restaurant available for breakfast, but we didn't try it. It was about $19 per day. Instead, we chose to venture out and try some other options in the city, but this is a good option for anyone looking to dine at their hotel. I believe they're open for lunch and dinner as well. Pro-tip: Take advantage of the 7-11 that is literally directly in front of the hotel. We had egg sandwiches here almost everyday!

Yelp
Zen Such a great hotel to end the trip. Although the main and busy part (shopping centers, etc) are about a 15 minute walk, it is such a quiet and relaxing hotel. Pros : - Free Popsicles starting at 3pm-2am : 5 flavors - Onsen for both Male and Female on the 18th floor - 7/11 right across the street - Family Mart, Ramen, Dominos Pizza about a block away - So Zen and relaxing They also offer a restaurant on the first floor. Food is 1500¥ +. Unfortunately some foods will not be available certain times but hey, it was an experience. It definitely has a different vibe then the first hotel we stayed at. It does remind me of the AirBnb we stayed at in Kyoto. I am in love! Going to miss this place.

Yelp
This hotel is not super close to the station if you have a ton of luggage-- but it's totally doable if you don't have trouble walking (~10-15 minutes). The check in process was super easy as we had booked through Expedia and the staff at front desk spoke English. The room we booked? Tiny! But very elegant in its setup and the actual hotel is very beautiful. A huge difference from the budget hotels and air bnbs I'd used in Japan previously. There are also bigger rooms available, but I was late to book this room and it wasn't within my budget this time. Breakfast is available during morning hours if you include w/ reservation or purchasing a ticket ahead of time for ¥1800 yen each. However, there is a 7-11 literally across the street that was super convenient so I didn't find it necessary this time. Onsen on site.

Yelp
Wow, just wow. This place was quite simply the highlight of our two-week stay in Japan. My friend and I (two solo female travelers in our mid 20s) picked Onsen Ryokan Yuen Shinjuku because of its affordable price, great location, and amenities. We were not disappointed in any way and the hotel truly became an oasis for us in the heart of Tokyo. Since we were on more of the budget side of traveling, we picked (I believe) the least expensive room the hotel offers which was a standard twin room. Although the room was tight/small (there was *just* enough space for us to put down our two pieces of luggage), it's standard not only for Japan but also any city hotel & did the trick for us. We had comfortable beds, a bathroom with although a compact shower *the* best shower I've experienced, sink, mirror, television with a variety of Japanese channels; pretty much everything you need. If you're thinking you'll spend a lot of time in your hotel room during your stay in Tokyo, I would recommend sizing up from the standard twin as it could become a little too small/stifling, but if you're spending most of the day out of the hotel, it will be absolutely fine. Additionally, for 5 nights, we spent less than $600 total (split between the two of us) which, for everything else included, was an absolute steal. The hotel is a fair walk from Shinjuku Station (roughly ~15-20 minutes; you will get used to this during your stay, but the first time completing the walk can be a lot with luggage) although there are a few closer stations via the Marunouchi line on the Tokyo Metro. Shinjuku is obviously a very bustling area of Tokyo, but the Onsen Ryokan is located on a quiet and picturesque side-street with lots of restaurants, bars, and 7-11s (if you've never been to Japan, these 7-11s will become your best friend, so it's very convenient). The location of the hotel cannot be beat; quiet but a stone's throw from the thick of the action (a 10-minute walk from Golden Gai, Robot Restaurant, Kabukicho, Shinjuku Gyoen Gardens, etc.) + central to train stations and subway lines that connect you to the rest of the city. From arriving at Onsen Ryokan, you will notice that *every single detail* pertaining to your comfort and peace has been thought of. Cold towels upon arrival (the staff speak both English and Japanese, and I heard a few communicate in Chinese as well to fellow guests). Beautiful zen walkway and lobby designed with warm wood. Yakatas (kimono-like robes) are provided fresh everyday for you to change into and take to the onsen. Green tea, mugs, toothbrushes, combs, and water bottles are also provided in your room. An *excellent* restaurant (seriously, it deserves a Michelin) that for ~$16/per guest, you can indulge in the most delicious hotel breakfast you'll probably ever experience (traditional Japanese breakfast centered around a fresh fish of the day). Of course, however, the hotel's main gem is its onsen: its nude-only (separated by gender) hot spring spa on its top floor (18th floor) overlooking Tokyo. It is, quite simply, magical. There's a joint gender (blatantly, clothed) onsen "lobby" where you can sit and look at Tokyo through floor-to-ceiling windows, and for the women's onsen, there were two (no photos allowed for obvious reasons) hot spring baths; one located outside on a balcony and one inside with breathtaking skyline views of Tokyo. There's rows of showers in there too (we honestly, by accident, spent more time using the onsen showers than the one in our room) + a vanity room (to do makeup, hair, etc.) with fantastic lighting and Japanese face products (lotions, oils, makeup removers, etc.). The onsen is gorgeous and at night (definitely treat yourself to visiting the onsen at various times - daylight, sunset, nighttime - for the views) berry-flavored popsicles are provided to enjoy while you look at the view. It's true luxury. Honestly, I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Tokyo and will probably spend the remainder of my days dreaming about this hotel. Joking. Kind of.

Ashley H.

Yelp
We picked this hotel based on a Travel and Leisure Tokyo article. I liked that it was affordable, stylish in a traditional/minimalist Japanese way, it was near Shinjuku (which is a late night area, we were there for one night only) but mostly because of the Onsen which is open until 2am. Took the NEX from Narita airport, got some ramen in Shinjuku and then enjoyed the Onsen at the hotel. The men's side and women's side both had an indoor and outdoor soak. I loved looking out at the city at night from the water. Perfect combination of exciting Tokyo and peaceful retreat. Lovely staff, very clean.

Yelp
This place is STUNNING. My husband and I stayed here last October - we splurged on our last two nights in Tokyo. We had been traveling around Japan for two weeks and this was our last stop. It was truly magical. They have an onsen on the roof, overlooking Tokyo - the view is magnificent. When you arrive you receive traditional robe and slippers that you can wear upstairs to the onsen, or to meals in their restaurant if you like! After you bathe - we went at night and it's spectacular - you can enjoy a fruit popsicle to rehydrate. The restaurant was gorgeous and the food was amazing. We had the traditional breakfast of miso soup and mackeral, we ate lunch and dinner there as well during our stay. The stand out dishes were certainly the wagyu beef and the miso cured fois gras. Certainly stay here if you are in Tokyo!

Yelp
Stayed at this hotel last month (October 2019) visiting from USA. The rooms are traditional and very tiny. We were 2 adults with an average amount of luggage for international travelers and we could not walk in the room. We barely fit our luggage in the room; even opening the door required a lot of maneuvering. The bathroom has only a toilet and standing shower so the sink is located in the room. The desk around the sink is the only counter space for the whole room (see picture). I understand this is a traditional style but it was not realistic for 2 people to share this space. Maybe if you're traveling with just a backpack it would work -- it is definitely a clean, safe hotel with friendly staff. All hotels in Tokyo have small rooms but this was exceptionally tiny. Luckily our stay here was short and we did not spend much time in the room. We had some unexpected events during our week so unfortunately we were not able to use any of the amenities. The pictures look great so I was sad we were not able to see any of it. The hotel is located directly across the street from a 7/11 and walking distance from restaurants, bars, and the heart of Shinjuku.

Yelp
Wow.. arrived here not knowing what to expect as we just arrived from the north island of Hokkaido. I can definitely say I was pleasantly surprised with what we found in the middle of Tokyo. This place is an absolute diamond, I love everything about it. The hotel from the outside is completely unassuming which I personally love and in a central area of Tokyo close to everything you would want to see. Rooms are amazing, Everything is Japanese, detailed, simple and absolutely gorgeous. We walked by a lot of different hotels and I not once was unsure about our choice. Fantastic property, thank you for having us.
