Yujo Izakaya

Had great experiences at Yujo everytime we visited! Everything was genuinely good from the food to the service and overall atmosphere. The dishes were well prepared, fresh, and full of flavor, and you can really feel the attention to detail. The staff were friendly and welcoming, making the whole dining experience comfortable and enjoyable. Definitely a place worth coming back to if you’re looking for quality Japanese food in Kampala. Highly recommended! 🍣🍜🇯🇵

We had planned to go somewhere else for dinner then our friend recommended Yujo and we were blown away. It’s like a little parallel universe, down a quiet side ride not far from the centre of town, a little emporium of beautiful little shops and what looks like a makeshift stage in the car park then you enter this unique, dimly lit, bustling hive of happy people eating and drinking and chatting and you see the kitchen through the window with pans throwing up huge flames. We ate in the garden (ask for the anti mosquito coil and preferably bring repellant) and the beautiful Japanese lanterns cast just enough light on the food. We had the Banange craft beers (amazing) to drink and to eat we had the okonomiyaki (OMG amazing and special), the gyoza (not really noteworthy but fine and our toddler ate almost the whole lot) and the most delicious teriyaki beef. My husband wanted to come back the next night!

One of the best places, I went with my husband for dinner and the service was professional. Loved food the food, it was worth it. Had to ask them to pack the rest to go. 😄 We loved the atmosphere too even though they had us sit in the garden since we didn’t book a table where people smoke a lot. I don’t know if you’re to sit inside you have to first book a table so that you don’t sit with smokers. But overall it’s a nice place.

Incredible food for starters. We got drinks, appetizers, a sushi platter, and dessert, and all were delicious. But beyond that, we were very impressed by their sustainability initiatives and community integration. I enjoyed reading the stories mixed throughout their menu and left feeling really good about supporting this place!

I am always up for going to Yujo. Please note that it's on the higher side in terms of costs but so worth it!! From the bento box to the sauces, I always look forward to my next visit. Do not forget to try their Tiramisu version. It's a must-have. Side note: Ask if the noodles are cold or hot. My dinner partner was surprised about them coming cold. Also, reservations are better. Depending on the day, there is a small wait for a seat.

Had a fantastic dining experience at Yujo Izakaya! The food was absolutely amazing—everything from the sushi to the katsu burgers and dumplings was full of flavor and beautifully presented. The cocktails and mocktails were unique and delicious! While the service was a bit slow, the staff was friendly and the incredible atmosphere made up for it. Perfect spot for a relaxed, enjoyable meal. I’ll definitely be back!

Wonderful and cozy restaurant tucked away into a quiet corner on a busy road. The starters were all beautiful and fresh, served izakaya style (as the name of the restaurant suggests). Had the ramen for mains which had slightly too much miso in it (for my personal liking) but was ok with it because it had plenty of delicious toppings and the atmosphere in the evening there is just special. Waiters were great too, collectively greeted everyone coming in in Japanese - what a nice touch!

Ambiance was great however didn't get to experience most of it cause of the weather. The fries and wine were great. My steak however tasted too rare instead of medium rare which I didn't enjoy and the service was slow: it took too long for someone to bring me the menu after I was seated. Overall it's a nice gem, would love to go back and try the Japanese cuisine.
