I came across Yuzi Care back in early 2024 when I was researching postpartum options. Postpartum centers are not common in the US as culturally there is less emphasis on postpartum maternal care here, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that a startup was tackling that in the Seattle area. At the time, starting a family was just a dream.
About a year later, I was pregnant and it was time to look for postpartum care options more seriously. After considering many options – finding an independent doula, a live-in confinement nanny, a 'traditional' agency, even giving birth in Hong Kong where my family is, or toughing it out without any support – I revisited Yuzi Care and saw that they were offering an in-home postpartum service. I liked the idea of working with experienced caregivers in the comfort of my own home during the postpartum phase.
Steph the CEO helped me craft a 6-week plan with daytime and nighttime support. I was able to see all of the information related to my care program on the website, including who was scheduled for each session. It was so nice to have support from Amy, Lydia, Kristin, Dinora and Anne over the course of 6 weeks. Not only were they all very experienced, they were so kind, and great with the baby. In hindsight, it was so much better than having just one support person during the postpartum phase as I was able to learn so much from each person. Working through a company like Yuzi was also reassuring to me – an anxious first time mom – because everyone on the team was vetted, highly qualified and had even worked with each other in past jobs/training, so it never felt like a 'hiring strangers from the internet' kind of vibe like you might have with a site like care.com or finding individuals using a search engine. I felt completely at ease with putting my newborn into capable hands and knowing that everything would be ok.
We had a small technical bug with the website scheduler which is par for the course with a custom built tool, but overall it was impressive and worked really well. And Steph was always so responsive and helpful.
TL;DR – I loved being able to work with a new company who is doing something a little different in this space, the team was amazing, it was expensive but well worth it, and my partner and I feel very lucky to have had this experience.
