Pretty good overall, but I was missing some punchy flavors—something sour or pickled, maybe a smoky touch with more pepper and tangy sauce on the meat. The lamb burger was nice though, especially the bun—crunchy and super fresh. Staff were really friendly too! Overrated in my opinion- I wouldn’t wait in a long line for it.

I was on a pretty good vegan streak until I had a day and night solo in São Paulo. I have been wanting to try Z Deli for many years, and I determined it was finally time to go. The hostess could obviously notice my gringo Portuguese, so she gave me an English menu. I was between the Reuben and the pastrami and ultimately chose the pastrami. As someone who doesn’t eat meat much anymore, it can be almost repulsive when I do smell or taste it. But that was NOT the case with my Z Deli Pastrami Sanduíche. It had excellent flavor and texture. The fries were just regular fries nothing super fancy or exciting but also very good, hot, and fresh. They also had a nice collection of beers and cocktails to choose from. Only minor negative I had was that the atmosphere on the bottom floor had this red light in the back that kind of set the tone for the whole place red. But I was happy I went. And I would go again. Would be a nice place for a small group of 3 or 4 to get together for a few drinks and food.

***passable with some hits and misses in replicating the classic US deli experience*** Reuben Sandwich – Great toast yo golden and crisp. Only patience, low and slow heat to achieve this. The pastrami was tender but missing that smoky, peppery punch. The mustard felt off, I kept wishing for Russian or Thousand Island to bring that creamy-tangy balance to all the sour and briny notes from sauerkraut and pickle. A little more sauerkraut would’ve taken it to the next level. Lamb Burger – Juicy, with the lamb/beef blend hitting a nice lean-to-fat balance. The cumin came through lightly, but patty could use more seasoning overall. Pink Lemonade – More like red sugar water than lemonade. Definitely a miss. Super friendly and professional staffs on board!

First up from the “snacks, appetizers, and salads”, we ordered the ZFC. This was an extremely generous portion of marinated and deep-fried pieces of chicken. The chicken was succulent with a soft but crispy batter. It came garnished with gherkin (great idea!) and a sour cream dipping sauce, which I originally thought was mild cheese. The Pastrami sandwich was wonderfully rare hunks of pastrami with a lovely amount of pepper. It was served a milk roll with a strong mustard and mayonnaise mixed with gherkins. On the side of the plate was a pickle. One of the most perfect pastrami sandwiches that I have ever tried. Our second choice in sandwich was the Reuben. This was presented on toasted rye bread. Filled again with the pastrami accompanied with cheese, a special sauce, hot mustard and sauerkraut. Not that we needed them but we also couldn’t resist ordering some Z Deli fries. This variety were skin on with fresh rosemary. This was also a substantial portion. To go with all of this we had two of the Brooklyn IPA beers, which were a perfect pairing to the food. We thoroughly enjoyed the whole meal!

I had the Rubens (pastrami with Brazilian cheese) sandwich. It was amazing, super big and delicious! Similar to the traditional mortadela sandwich from the Mercado Municipal but with meat of a way better quality and pickles. Hamburgers also seemed to taste great. The service was awesome, everyone tried to understand me and they were very kind!!! ❤️
