Last night was my first and last visit to Zane’s Italian Bistro.
Our waiter, Luke, may be a good server in general, but he was not attentive to our table. It took about 10 minutes for him to greet us. We didn’t think much of it initially since he said it was a delay due to a crying child at one of his other tables. Fine. Things happen. We ordered our drinks, the calamari appetizer, and two entrees right away since we had already been sitting with the menu for so long. It took nearly ten more minutes to get our drinks, which did not need any special sort of preparation as they were a soda and a non-alcoholic beer.
The calamari was good but the bread they brought out was not. The bread was terribly dense and almost felt stale. These dishes remained on the table the entire evening as our server never came back to clear them or even see if we liked them. Throughout the evening, there were multiple occasions where he checked on nearby tables and walked right past us, which felt especially noticeable since he was friendly and engaged with everyone else.
Despite ordering everything during Luke’s first and only visit to our table, it still took about forty minutes to get our entrees, which were brought out by the lovely food runner. I didn’t catch his name, but he was polite and helpful. He was the singular highlight of the night.
About forty minutes after we sat down, we now had our entrees. Regrettably, they weren’t good. We were holding out hope that the food would compensate for the wildly subpar service, but it did not. The pasta we waited so long for tasted off and was not something we felt comfortable eating. Because of this, we decided not to eat the entrees at all and just leave. Seeing as our server had no interest in returning to our table, I went to the hostess stand to explain the situation and ask for our check. The man there, who I assume is the manager, said he would take care of the bill for us. We were prepared to pay but do appreciate his gesture in an effort to make things right.
Between the long wait times, lack of service, and food issues, this visit fell far short of expectations.
