Zanzibar Palace Hotel, Stone Town, Zanzibar - Explore & Book
"This boutique hotel in the heart of Stone Town was once a ruin. Now it has been transformed into a palace worthy of a spice-trading Sultan. The tall thin building wraps around an atrium, with just 3 rooms on each of its 3 floors. At the top are 2 superb suites, with al fresco bathrooms and private decks overlooking the town's ramshackle roofscape. The other 7 bedrooms are no less magical, combining antique furniture, Persian rugs, colourful silks and locally-crafted four-posters to regal, Arabic-Indian effect. But it's the friendly multilingual owner Frans and his manager who bring it all together with their tireless personal service: rescuing guests from papaasi (touts), doing late night airport runs and generally making everyone feel instantly at home. French-style dinners are served in their cosy restaurant, shopping or diving trips are easily planned, there's a small spa and the enthusiastic staff keep the house dhow-shape.
Highs
The stylish and tasteful interiors showcase Zanzibari and Arabic craftsmanship, with luxurious modern touchesThe hugely helpful and hands-on hosts make it feel more like a home than a hotelThe generous breakfasts include grapefruit, eggs, cheese and real coffeeIt's conveniently placed for shopping, boat trips, taxis and town tours
Lows
Expect some street noise - Stone Town is a busy and bustling little place and you are right in the middle of itThere's no pool to relax by, though that's what the east coast is forIt's quite expensive, but there's a high level of detail and service and the 2 Luxury Rooms are a little cheaperThe stairs are steep, especially leading up to the Palace and Honeymoon Suites on the top floor" - Rachel Hamada
We stayed at Zanzibar Palace for 3 nights. If you wish to have the feel of the OLD TOWN, with modern convenience, great food and service then consider this location highly. The location, whilst not on the waterfront is ideally located close to everything in the old town. It is only minutes walk to the water, the markets, other restaurants and coffee shops. Consider Zanzibar Palace highly as an experience of the old town as it is at the heart of it. We loved our stay.

I spent a great week there. The room was charming and roomy with a loveseat in the sitting area. No elevator, it is an old UNESCO building. No problem though, they happily and promptly carried my big bag up and down, delivered tea, and generally ran up and down for me whenever. You can order a full American breakfast or get cereal, fruit, yogurt, etc from a small buffet. The coffee waitress made excellent coffee!

We really enjoyed staying here and would definitely return.||Everyone was so friendly. We were in the Rosewood room, I think next time I would like to be overlooking the street with a balcony. Our room was s little on the small size but we managed for 3 nights. I did not have the right adaptor for charging my phone, but a very kind staff member supplied me with one within minutes.||The shower was a bit small and difficult to keep the water from going all over the floor !||The bed was amazing, I almost needed a leg up to get in !||Breakfast was very good, and plenty of choice.||It is only a few minutes walk from 2 of our favourite restaurants, Emmerson Secret Garden and Emmerson rooftop. Also Zanzibar Coffee House and the market.

Great central location in Stone town, clean, boutique rooms that were comfortable and fantastic value. Easy walking distance of restaurants and the local spice and fish markets. No noise level other than the call to prayer, but this just added to the experience and did not disturb in any way. Food was good and the service was fantastic. |A great introduction to Zanzibar and the guided walking tour was so informative.

We had a wonderful stay at Zanzibar Palace Hotel. The location is perfect, right in the heart of Stone Town, and the charming colonial style gives the place a lot of character. Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated, with a large shower and an amazing bathtub. The breakfast was excellent, but what really stood out was the staff’s flexibility and kindness — they allowed us to check in very early in the morning and even helped us find a parking spot nearby by arranging something with their neighbor, which was a huge help since parking isn’t easy in the area. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a stylish, welcoming stay in Zanzibar!

We spent a few days here after our Tanzanian safari, and loved the place. It's about 200 years old and only 9 rooms, but our room was renovated recently and reminiscent of a sultan's palace! The bed was huge and comfortable, the tub was enormous and also had a great shower and our balcony overlooking the city was a pleasant addition. The service was impeccable, including one of the staff who went to the market to find an item for my wife that she had broken, we could not believe that she was successful! The breakfast buffet was great and filling, and the menu for dinner was very good. The location is the best, right in the middle of everything and just steps away from the markets. It was a great stay and we can't recommend it enough.

I really enjoyed my stay at Zanzibar Palace Hotel and appreciated the warm hospitality of its friendly owner. The breakfast was wonderful, and the charming décor made me feel like a princess. Getting lost and finding my way again through the city’s alleys was such a lovely experience, and the hotel is also a great starting point for visiting Prison Island.|
