Really didn't like this hostel, so much so that I left without staying the night. Before going, I had asked if they have AC, and they said yes. They neglected to tell me they don't turn it on until certain times. Checking in was fine, was given a bottom bunk with curtains. Room was super run-down, the curtains are held up by tied wires so they droop. There isn't a curtain at the bottom because there's a ladder. Mattress felt super lumpy, and the room was just not a place I wanted to spend time. I didn't use the bathrooms but they looked sketchy, didn't seem comfortable either. The whole place is just really, really run down.
I sat downstairs also in the common area, and I don't know if Panama City just has a lot of mosquitoes but within 5 mins, I got bitten (through my leggings!) a ton - didn't have this experience outside or in other accommodations in Panama City. The couches downstairs were also old and lumpy. There were also people smoking pretty consistently so the smoke went into the hostel and pretty much smelled like smoke the entire time, so I didn't feel like I could breathe whenever I went outside my room (I really hate cigarette smoke).
I just generally didn't feel comfortable in this hostel, didn't feel like I wanted to spend any time there - so I left around 7:30PM before staying the night, and they still hadn't turned on the AC by then.
When I left, the owner(?) came and asked me if I'm leaving, and she asked me 3 times why I'm leaving. I kept saying I didn't feel comfortable there, and she kept asking me why - I think it was pretty clear that I was done answering her but she kept asking and asking, it was really annoying. Just let me leave. At the time, it was just a feeling, so I didn't want to elaborate. But here's your review on why, I guess.
